Can only image what he has in the works, Dev is beyond prolific.
|
| |
We need big man dev right now
|
| |
praise be upon
|
| |
Doesn't make a difference to me tbh. Even the band was entirely focused around him, so him doing more solo stuff shouldn't be a huge change.
|
| |
i really liked the band tho, kinda sad to see the project break
|
| |
New Casualties of Cool!
|
| |
Yeah, I really liked the guys in Project but yeah it won't change TOO much of devs sound to leave them. Always excited to hear more of his work
|
| |
Any new Dev is welcome in these parts.
|
| |
So is he rich now or what
|
| |
If he didn't spend half his income out of pocket for these live shows he might be but probably not
|
| |
Somehow devin townsend project reminds me of ERA
|
| |
He gets pretty crazy budgets for a lot of his endeavors, but for himself he doesn't get too much, I remember him disclosing that he makes like 60k a year from the label for DTP.
|
| |
excited to see what else he has in store, even if it's not with DTP
|
| |
"i really liked the band tho, kinda sad to see the project break" [2]
|
| |
I thought DTP has been lackluster since Epicloud. Glad to see him moving on, and getting into some cool, weird shit like Casualties of Cool again.
|
| |
"Ocean Machine Live In Plovdiv"
I'm bummed I missed that, cause it was in my country Bulgaria, but I learned about it a day before the actal show and couldn't go because it was in another city . I'm even more bummed now that he said it was magnificient and they are making a DVD of it.
|
| |
Hopefully not an actual DVD, I want that Blu-ray goodness.
|
| |
DTP has been wonderful from start to finish.
Also Dave, Mike, Ryan and Beav all deserve to be snatched up as soon as possible, they're way too talented to not have a main gig.
|
| |
bring back Strapping!!!
|
| |
lol that's never going to happen
|
| |
I'll die if he gives us more Casualties you don't even know. HYPE.
|
| |
I hope the best for the band (they seem like great dudes and all are very, very talented), but it was time for Devin to shake things up. The band was way too focused on trying to produce and reproduce Addicted once the primary four were done. And Addicted is awesome (as are all of the first four), so I get it, but I just didn't see them catching that lightning in a bottle again.
|
| |
"I remember him disclosing that he makes like 60k a year from the label for DTP."
There was a music business podcast I heard Dev on where I remember him saying he pockets 70k a year, but reinvests a lot into his shows/music and ensures the band are all paid well. I don't remember if he said the 70k was before or after reinvesting.
All things considered, 70k is cheap for Dev's level of output and caliber of performance.
|
| |
Agreed, that's really cheap. It's surprising too considering how well known he has become.
|
| |
I dunno about you guys, but I wouldn't mind a salary of 70k lol
|
| |
Especially doing what he does, sign me up I won't complain.
|
| |
Hell, I'd skip the stupid orchestra stuff and other fluff and pocket even more cash
|
| |
"New Casualties of Cool!"
[50 BILLION]
|
| |
currently working on 4 albums? I love you, Devin
|
| |
come on dev. strapping young lad us just one more time....
|
| |
good. Transcendence was overwrought tripe. more Casualties of Cool instead hopefully
|
| |
SYL Never gonna happen.
Wish to fuck it would
|
| |
SYL was good because he really needed to get that shit out of his head apparently. He would never be able to reproduce that energy at this stage of his life and tbh I'm happy with that because if he would be that would mean he hasn't gotten on with anything (which he obviously has, for the better).
Putting the DTP on a hiatus is the right decision for the same reason. His stuff is most likely to turn out well if he does what his state of mind at the moment drives him to (instead of dwelling on), which is the way he went for the largest part of his career, so all well with this decision.
|
| |
Massive respect for Dev, he earned that respite, and 4 new albums incoming? Jesus lol
|
| |
4 nw albums coming?
thats always been his problem
|
| |
Statistically speaking, at least one of them would have to be a masterpiece, now that I think about it ;)
|
| |
or.....
you MIGHT be able to make one masterpiece by combining the best material of the four
|
| |
Yeah sure, but a thing like that would probably turn out to be all over the place and wouldn't be a masterpiece for that reason
He should rather make them less overly long and meandering as he tends to.
|
| |
'Yeah sure, but a thing like that would probably turn out to be all over the place and wouldn't be a masterpiece for that reason'
like most of his records!
|
| |
you get outta here even though you're right
|
| |
devys got several masterpieces already though
|
| |
have been seeing shit posted about this dude for like 10 years now, and I've checked him out like 10 times now. And I still wouldn't have said anything. But he worked with Comeback Kid on their single, and then the album was booty niblits and pretty much the symbol of the album was them working with DT... dude is a noob eater, or otherwise phrased as a pleb preyer (he preys on the plebs with shitty music).
Dude is also the perfect symbol of prog in general, aka people replacing true music with a perverse hybrid of music which blends technicality, djenty pretend-this-is-hard riffs, and being a really soft pussy. symbolized by clicking on one of his videos and a shitty riff coming on, with a corny and limp video, horrible drums, and then flat ass vox coming in: "Time is a human construct!" if dude seriously considered or had any intimacy with what he pretends to think about, his music would sound less like a cinematic theatre show... and he woulda given up the prog, as well as being a super soft pussy, and he would not help lead a perfectly good hardcore band in a perfectly horrendous direction...
Oh, how I wish I could've included the next 2 paragraphs I wrote! Alas, only I will have received their comedy. please take this 1 paragraph lightly, it's but a single negative comment, and oh how praised DT is, surely you grown ups are not so easily swayed by a single comedy critic as to actually suffer said critic any unfriendly response... Cheers
|
| |
I want to hear those other two paragraphs
|
| |
Yeah, well that's just like... your opinion man...
|
| |
SYL will never happen again. And thank fuck for that. The New Black wasn't their best obvs, but it was such a perfect closing statement that adding anything after that, especially now, would be a total error. Plus would the rest of the band even want to? Especially Gene, he always has a ton of shit going on.
I'm fairly certain we'll see another Casualties album, Devin has mentioned it a few times. I'm sure they'll want to take their time with it to make sure it's on par with the last one.
|
| |
The rest of the band totally would. Gene loves staying busy and Jed was all for coming back when the Retinal Circus was put on
|
| |
It's never coming back and doesn't need to eother though
|
| |
Oh god 4 new devin albums? Rip
|
| |
I'd prefer them to just tour for the fun of it maybe, not make Devvy force himself back into that kind of headspace. If he'd do heavy stuff again I'd prefer he just do it under his own name, DTP or DTB.
|
| |
Strapping young lad please.
|
| |
When I first heard of DTP I assumed he was playing every instrument himself. Since that's not the case, what the hell? Naming his band that way seems kind of a douchey move for such an otherwise cool guy.
|
| |
Huh, always thought this guy was named ''DeVON'' Townsend.
|
| |
Posted in Transcendence thread cos didn't realise this thread existed:
As a massive Devy fan I am so happy that Dev is as aware as some of the rest of us that DTP has run its course. The sound was getting stale, the band members were allowed to get too involved in writing and the live shows were becoming samey. This album was pretty good but I feel the next one they made would have been a bit of a let down, Dev needs to be unshackled and a bit insecure to write his best material (DTP was getting just a bit too safe/comfortable). Think it shows a real astuteness on his part to have picked up on the fact that something fresh and new is needed, and I can't wait to see what he produces in complete artistic freedom once again
|
| |
"When I first heard of DTP I assumed he was playing every instrument himself. Since that's not the case, what the hell? Naming his band that way seems kind of a douchey move for such an otherwise cool guy."
It was originally him coordinating everything and performing the instrumentation. They were never really considered a full band up until Epicloud.
|
| |
"Huh, always thought this guy was named ''DeVON'' Townsend."
Along with his half brother Bubba Ray Townsend
|
| |
DEVON
GET THE TAAABBBLLLLEEEEESSSSSSSSSS
*Love's main riff plays*
|
| |
"the band members were allowed to get too involved in writing"
That wad just in the most recent album; before Transcendence he wrote everything himself before giving it to the rest of the band to learn/tweek.
|
| |
he's making lots more music so that's what matters
|
| |
DTP was getting stale as fuck anyway.
