Well yeah, now we're going back to Hybrid Theory and Meteora. We can criticize a recent performance while still recognizing that he's been good in the past.

No one was hating on the band or its members personally when disliking 'One More Light'. Yes Chester took the poor reception personally, but I'd expect nothing less from someone that believes in their art form as much as he did. Chester and the rest of the band members will have a special place in the hearts of many Metal fans the world over. Without Chester, Mike, Brad, Rob, Phoenix and Joe many Metal fans today possibly wouldn't be Metal fans as Linkin Park were gateway for so many. The hate was for the album not for the band itself.

He didn't even take the hate personally, the only time he lost his cool was when people kept bringing up Hybrid Theory. Which is understandable, kind of like telling Lemmy to play Ace Of Spades of Rob Plant to play Stairway.

Definitely, although hate is a strong word, I just didn't like it. It's all just a matter of taste, yet some people take it as LP (or any of their favorite bands) owe them records they want to hear. I'll give it a few more chance though, seriously, this hit me harder than I thought. Him and LP are the reason I love metal so much now.

Yeah, people should have honestly left him alone about that. I get that a lot of people grew up with Hybrid Theory, but he doesn't want to make that album anymore. As much as I'd have loved for them to make another Meteora (my favorite LP album), that's never gonna happen. Also this statement was heartbreaking to read. RIP Chester.

his death has really hit me hard despite me not being much of a fan, closest it's gotten for me losing an idol, made me realise everyone is mortal, anyone could be taken from me at anytime

I disagree - one could easily counter that argument by saying "they bought in." Selling out is a subjective statement, so you can't necessarily use weightless words as an argument like that.

As far as the statement goes, I feel they responded appropriately. Linkin Park will probably rest in peace and continue on with another project. They don't owe the fans anything - they've given enough.

Well, I saw those comments were a norm with people who only like old school LP, I remember one nasty incident when invincible that some folks sent death threats to mike shinoda and their kids which are the biggest inspiration of that song. Still, most of the fans including myself hated the album but not the band ( in fact one of the complains was the album wasn't a creation of a imagine dragons clone or a EDM act, it was created by the same people that did breakin the habit and papercut which are really legit rock tunes) and most of the fans knew that LP makes drastic changes of sound and concept since the MTM era, MTM is different from ATS, the similarities between LT and THP were few and many knew that the next effort will be different from OML. Also even during the OML era they had tons of people who loved it and went to concerts, specially in Germany and Peru and even chester said when he calmed down that he could understand the dislike of the metal and rock fans and that it was ok. So the theory that chester commited suicide due to the backlash must be bullshit, and I doubt that talinda or mike will say that he make that decision due to the critics.

By the way if chester suicide was caused by the criticism it will be a case like keith emerson's suicide, he did that due to the harsh critics of his live performances

I think that theory is bullshit like I said in the previous comment, since hybrid theory they faced a lot of criticism.

Although once I turned 18 their music wasn't FOR me really anymore, I listened to Hybrid Theory and Meteora all weekend and had all the feels, got me through some tough times back then. Thank you LP, thank you Chester.

Its hard to nail what was the primary factor in Chester Bennington killing himself. Obviously he died on Chris Cornell's birthday, but if Chris Cornell were to have had as big of an impact on Chester personally the question remains as to why he didn't die sooner. Public image could have been a factor in Bennington's suicide, but blaming the fans for his death is pathetic to say the least. There's no doubt Bennington would have felt he let the fans down or the fans didn't understand the message of the album, and while that does create tension, I find that theory a leap of faith. Killing yourself based on criticism is commonly found in teenagers due to an underdeveloped sense of self-efficacy. Bennington had other factors that easily overshadowed that motive like past abuse, severe depression, and chronic physical pain. The main thread in the tangled web of Bennington's suicide is the fact he did not leave a note. That seems rather odd when considering his past statements about how much he adored his family. The absence of a note provides the family even more torment not only because of the lack of closure, but the family begins to blame themselves. There is obviously missing pieces to the puzzle, but I doubt there will be anymore investigation into his death.

True, but the criticism also add more fuel to the fire. Because some fans said - he is doing a bad performance- and - He should retire-. Besides, Greg Lake even said that his depression was present since the works era and criticism was one of the main causes of that condition

Some people are obsessed with their performance. Chris Benoit was a good example of that as well. However, Chester Bennington's suicide seems a lot more mysterious than others.

You guys misinterpreted my statement. As a huge wrestling fan and an individual who has studied Chris Benoit, his double-murder and suicide was a combination of things aside from steroids. Writing down every single key motivator in Benoit's crime would be multiple pages long, but long story short, I was comparing Benoit's death to that of Keith Emerson who was obsessed with performing. Benoit was obsessed with wrestling in what many would consider to be an irrational way, but Benoit had a child-like mentality when it came to wrestling. Despite being abused mentally, emotionally, and verbally since he was 16, Benoit's obsession with wrestling consumed him. It's rather sad because Benoit was a great person outside the ring and took care of his friends and enemies no matter what. However, his death was a result of all the abuse wrestling put on him. Steroids were a way of life for old school wrestlers like Benoit. Although he didn't need steroids due to the 30+ years he used them and the fact they literally changed his body chemistry, Benoit wanted to be in peak physical condition to insure he was *the* best wrestler. His crime and death was mostly caused by emotional instability because he lived in a very dysfunctional relationship with Nancy Benoit and frustrations with professional wrestling.
