Tight as fuck. It's like taking the best elements of the s/t and mixing it with the best elements of Deliver Us and Undoing Ruin. Can't wait for the rest to come out.
|
| |
Fuck I'm at work and cannot listen. Hyped for it though.
|
| |
I hear zero Deliver Us or Undoing Ruin in this
|
| |
Pretty solid and concise track. It sounds like their more recent stuff though.
|
| |
damn, was not expecting this. the ending was weak but otherwise it was pretty good. i am now stoked as fuck.
"I hear zero Deliver Us or Undoing Ruin in this"
it does resemble some of their thrashier songs.
|
| |
and that Kurt Ballou production sounds pretty good on them. this gives me some hope that their s/t wasnt the mark of their downfall.
|
| |
the riffs here are couple of generic hardcore riffs, a thrashy one-note riff, the most uninspired melody ever at about 1 minute mark, some soloing to fill in space and some more weak chugging in the outro, only it's half-time now
GREAT SONG AGREED
no wonder that Ballou's production suits them, they sound like an average hardcore band now
|
| |
Interesting track, haven't followed them as closely over the past few records, but this is the heaviest I've ever heard them. John Henry's vocals sound more vicious than normal, and those verses with the blasts sound almost grindy. Competent soloing, effective structure, makes me want to hear the whole thing.
|
| |
yeah song goes hard. its Darkest Hour though so the whole album isnt going to sound like this. cant wait to hear some more.
|
| |
Yeah, I don't hear any undoing ruin from this. It's still pretty good though.
|
| |
I changed my mind listening to it again. This is pretty weak for them and the ending is lame. I'm hopeful the album will still be good but this isn't them sounding as good as they were mid 2000s.
Edit:but it still sounds better than s/t so there.
|
| |
well that was quick.
|
| |
don't really see a problem with the ending tbh
|
| |
I really liked the ending but it was abrupt as hell which felt a little awkward at first. I dig the song though. The solo almost made me jump out the window.
|
| |
The abrupt ending is probably appropriate for the album, its the first track and they obviously wanted to start it off with a bang. The next song will probably be much more melodic.
|
| |
''Yeah, I don't hear any undoing ruin from this. It's still pretty good though''
Reminds me of "district divided'' a bit. I hope the rest of the album will have better riffs though, this sounded quite average
|
| |
They've said that this album is going to be pretty diverse. This track is fun for sure, but I'm looking forward to hearing the more melodic tracks.
Production kinda threw me at first but after a few listens I really dig it.
|
| |
kris norris was this band
|
| |
[2]
|
| |
probably won't bother
|
| |
man you can tell ballou did this. sounds like Darkest Hour by way of the most recent Nails album
|
| |
"Reminds me of "district divided'' a bit. I hope the rest of the album will have better riffs though, this sounded quite average"
I guess? The guitar work is way more interesting on that song than this though. For me darkest hour was always about the riffs and I just don't feel it on this.
|
| |
this doesn't really bring the riffs but it does bring the heavy
|
| |
"kris norris was this band"
v true but i still dig this surprisingly
|
| |
That was really good actually.
|
| |
Finally listened on my lunch, pretty killer track and the solo goes hard. I do hope the album has a good amount of melodic tracks too.
|
| |
Song is almost exactly what I've always wanted them to do. Follow their more hardcore roots, ala Full Imperial Collapse. I can understand people not digging this but I loved it
|
| |
This is so boring.
|
| |
It's a good track but nothing groundbreaking. It will interesting to hear how it works in the context of the album.
|
| |
kris norris was this band
that purple blob pokemon
|
| |
Lmao I love how people think they matter on this site 😂.
*Insert some snobbish comment about how this band isn't what they like so that automatically means they're shit*.
Gtfo.
|
| |
This track is killer btw, I'm pumped!
|
| |
This is probably the first song I've ever heard by this band that I'd agree with being called metalcore
|
| |
Melodic death metalcore
|
| |
'that purple blob pokemon'
...ditto?
|
| |
duh
|
| |
Track gives me some Hidden Hands vibes for sure. I think the track is fun, but doesn't stick like anything from the good ole days. Cautiously optimistic. I'll say that.
|
| |
'duh'
doesn't even make sense tho
|
| |
"Lmao I love how people think they matter on this site 😂.

Gtfo."
lol what? shut up, fuck off, youre retarded, etc.
|
| |
Good song.
|
| |
ye i can dig this. the ballou production makes this band so much better
|
| |
yeah, even though the band riffs hard their production jobs have never been the greatest.
|
| |
''yeah, even though the band riffs hard their production jobs have never been the greatest.''
Devin Townsend did the production on undoing ruin and deliver us, which in my opinion worked really well for their style. Their last album had very bad production however.
|
| |
The only production job i really liked on a DH album was Hidden Hands.
|
| |
I thought the production on the s/t was pretty good tbh, maybe a bit too clean for their overall style but it wasn't bad.
|
| |
"Godless Prophets & The Migrant Flora."
Seems kinda like they had two ideas for an album name and couldn't pick which one they liked more.
Ballou Ballou'd the fuck out of this. I guess Darkest Hour is a hardcore band now. The identity crisis continues.
|
| |
I'd honestly prefer that to mainstream metalcore tbh, as much as I enjoyed the s/t.
|
| |
So...
what?
|
| |
the remaster of mark of the judas rips hard as fuck
|
| |
not as good as their peak obviously but still enjoyable
|
| |
After getting used to the new sound I am excited that they're throwing back to their older death days and I'm excited about the new album in general. Undoing Ruin will forever be my favorite tone from DH, but I'll run with this too.
|
| |
tranquil's opening riff doe
|
| |
The Mark of Judas remastered tho
|
| |
Woa this song is amazing. Wasn't expecting this at all from these guys.
|
| |
Vocals sound great, solo was great, but this was basically a Baptists song other than that.
|
| |
Well, im gonna go check out Baptists then.
|
| |
Ballou you say? I'm intrigued
Edit: yeah, not bad at all
|
| |
"yeah, even though the band riffs hard their production jobs have never been the greatest."
"Devin Townsend did the production on undoing ruin and deliver us, which in my opinion worked really well for their style. Their last album had very bad production however."
Agreed here. That was the one thing with DU and UR that always fucked me up. Way too dark and bassy sounding albums.
|
| |
Fucked you up in a good way right
|
| |
The songs fucked me up in a good way yeah
|
| |
The bass drum in Tunguska got a little out of hand but otherwise yeah DU sounded good.
|
| |
The cymbals in UR were like having ice picks stabbed in your ears, but otherwise the audio quality wasn't too bad. DU was the opposite. It was more dark, even dull at times, though the treble still had the same rough character.
Production on this song is ace, though.
|
| |
new song
https://nsalbums.org/darkest-hour-timeless-numbers-single-2017/
|
| |
New song riffs hard as fuck
|
| |
fuck yes that new song is everything I was hoping for out of this album.
|
| |
Yeah sounds like this is gonna be a heavy record, thats cool with me.
|
| |
