it sounds like demi's writers used a sample tbh
| |
pretty sure sleigh bells is doing this just to make themselves relevant again
| |
Infinity Guitars is 1000 times better and that should really be enough...but then again this song is terrible and derivative so what the hell sue the tramp
| |
At least this lawsuit isn't over a pair of mantits.
As for the songs, it sounds pretty similar but I think we'd need to take an actual look at the composition itself to check tbh.
| |
Seems somewhat similar, but it's an awful coincidence that Sleigh Bells has an album coming out soon and their last efforts haven't been critical darlings.
Though to be fair that song is shit and I'd sue just based on that principle.
| |
No, suing someone because of a lack of quality is a scummy thing to do. It hinders free speech and freedom of expression.
| |
I'm joking you know.
| |
I'm also joking
The drum track does sound VERY similar to the Sleigh Bells tune, that seemed the biggest similarity
| |
Demi's team definitely were jamming Infinity Guitars when they wrote it, but I doubt Sleigh Bells will win this.
| |
There's only so many notes in music, can't really hear outright plagiarism. But that's from one listen, I don't want to listen to a Demi Lovato song ever again.
| |
yeah they sound pretty similar
bitchy trashy pop is life tho. surprisingly impressed with sleigh bells for that song.
| |
Saying there's only so many notes in music is like saying there's only so many combinations a pack of cards could be organized into.
| |
or so many patterns in art. don't forget color, shape, texture (see related: timbre, accent, rhythm...)
| |
Sounds pretty similar but the real question is do the boys in funkadelic get royalties for the song rill rill
| |
it does sound a whole lot like the drums are an uncredited sample.
| |
infinite guitars is a pretty annoying song tbh
| |
I listened to each song three times while I wrote the write-up and even though I personally think they have a good case with the extra noises alongside the drum track, it could go either way.
| |
80% of Demi's new album sounded like they sampled the hell out of other artist's songs so this isnt a surprise.
| |
That first Sleigh Bells in hindsight was close to a genre classic and huuuuuuuugely influential
| |
indeed even if it wasn't great songwriting it influenced its genre kind of like Static-X influenced its genre. and the fucking sounds and vocals of Sleigh Bells are just awesome despite not really leading anywhere a lot of the time.
| |
Well does most punk music go anywhere really? That's the sort of fair comparison you have to make with a band like SB
Also like most punk bands they said everything they needed to on their raw debut
| |
Sleigh Bells bitch just stepped out of a classic Ferrari in the video and she still needs money??
| |
ex poison the well huh there's something i didn't know
| |
"Well does most punk music go anywhere really? That's the sort of fair comparison you have to make with a band like SB"
very debatable with you likely winning lol. that's why I tried mentioning amazing sounds and vocals right afterward because I like Sleigh Bells and don't want to talk bad on them.
| |
Storm I got that you like them, their songwriting style grew on me over time - for years I thought that was a 2.5-3 sorta album but slowly slowly slowly it has gone up in my estimations and now it's on a 4.5 and a top 200 album for me (which is still a big surprise)
| |
yeah that is surprising. idk if I could put the debut in my top 200 but it's certainly possible. I'd say if I made a top 200 songs list then I'd put at least one sleigh bells song on that list.
| |
"ex poison the well huh there's something i didn't know"
Right? Out of nowhere!
Not enough to warrant my interest though. Put an old-school breakdown or two in there and then we can talk.
| |
um lol what if there are
| |
Storm, are you saying there's an unexpected breakdown we should all be aware of in a Sleigh Bells song? Cause if so, hook a brotha up
| |
i don't know how these things are handled legally but i feel like it's not entirely beyond coincidence that they could've written the same/similar beat. it's three different clap pitches and one lower bass drum-y sound. maybe i'm naive but i just can't believe that a hugely popular artist would expect to get away with intentionally sampling someone else. i guess it does happen kinda often. i just think that maybe courts should be more lenient with percussion sounds since there's less room for creative exploration, at least when it comes to pop music.
| |
it does sound a whole lot like the drums are an uncredited sample. [2]
| |
That's definitely Sleigh Bells's exact drum track being used in Demi's song. The tone of the hand claps give it away. I'm therefore in the "uncredited sample" camp.
| |
sleigh bells being better does not equal out to adding breakdowns
| |
good
will probably be fruitless, but pop stars should always be called out on bs like this
| |
