Ann Coulter Reviews Rage Against The Machine

2007-05-04 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 57 Comments
Never let it be said girls don't know how to rock!

Conservative political pundit Ann Coulter appeared on the Fox News broadcast Hannity & Colmes on Wednesday along with rock royalty Ted Nugent to discuss comments made by reformed anarcho-rockers Rage Against The Machine at a recent performance at the Coachella festival.

Frontman Zach de la Rocha condemned the current United States government (to much applause), stating: "In this current administration, there is no exception... they should be hung, and tried and shot," apparently in that order.

Far from condemning de la Rocha's flawed interpretation of the legal process, many commentators on the right and left have condemned the rapper's comments. Outspoken libertarian Nugent was diplomatic in his language, stating: "These guys are over the top, but they're the lunatic fringe that even your average democrat and liberal doesn't agree with. But unfortunately, nobody is silencing these guys — or not necessarily silencing, but condemning this outrageous violence that they're recommending."

Coulter had harsher words for the band members, but was also uncharacteristically quick to distance their behaviour from mainstream liberalism. "I'm not painting them as liberals. I'll paint them as losers. You know, I missed the VH1 special 'I Love the '90s.' I missed this whole thing. Who cares about them? Has anybody checked in with Flock of Seagulls to see what their position is on Bush?"

[fyi, Flock of Seagulls were big during the '80s. The '80s.]

She continued: "I don't know. I don't know anything about them, like most Americans. They broke up like 10 years ago. One guy tried -- I e-mailed one of my friends at MTV to find out who they even are. She said they broke up. The solo guy tried a career for seven years, bombed completely, and now, you know, [they're] really all looking forward to the Van Halen reunion."

So basically they went on TV to call RATM over-the-top losers. At least Rage tried when they called people losers.

I like how at the very beginning, the guy asked Coulter if she understood hyperbole to make a point, and she looked like she had no idea what that meant.

Notice that what Zach said before his extreme conclusion was not included in his quotation. For those of your who couldnt make it to the festival, before saying we should hang and shoot members of the current administration, he spoke of the war crimes of the current administration, comparing them to the war crimes of nazi germany. If you consider this, what he said was not that ridiculous, in fact personally I think I agree with him in that I think that bush and friends should be tried for the war crimes they have commited.
NOw when it comes to ann coulter... does anyone really think this lady is still worth listening to other than for the fact that you may chuckle when she says something completely stupid? Check out this site if you dont beleive shes crazy...

http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2001/0111.coulterwisdom.html

if you dont feel like going to the site let me share my favorite, which is ann coulters response to 9/11 "we should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity." Yeah she went there. GO to that site and read the other things she has said. If you agree with more than five of them, then something might be severly wrong with you.

to be continued...

Now for Mr. Nugent ...

http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/music/features/article571538.ece

read this, and if you dont want to heres my favorite line in which he discusses Iraq..."Our failure," he tells me, "has been not to Nagasaki them." NOt to Nagasaki them. Not to Nagasaki them. Are you f---ing serious?

TO sum up lets go over the three postions on the 'war on terror' of Zach, Ann, and Ted

Ted says- Our failure is that we didnt nagasaki them.

Ann says- We should invade their countries and convert their leader s to christianity (sounds like pope urban the II)

Zach says- We should put our leaders on trial for lieing to the world in order to start an unjust war for personal gain. When found guilty we should hang them and shoot them.

Which one is starting to look like the rational position. Funny that sean Hannity picked Ann(who said we need to invade other countries and convert their leaders to chritianity) and Ted(who wants to Nagasaki people) to talk about the comment s of Zach, who seems to be the only intelligent one of the bunch. That sounds alot like free press doesn't it. If Sean Hannity was around in the 1700s and somehow had a news show(I know they didnt have Tvs, so don't be that internet dork who puts a post about how there were no tvs then) I dont think that there would be a United states of AMerica. When did our country chage from a land full of rebels willing to die to fight an unjust rule into a country that comes home from work to watch loyalist idiots on Tv like sean Hannity.

Zach was right... Wake Up!!!

Dude... calm down. Ann Coulter is serious only 50% of the time. I personally love her. She also says we should nuke the middle east and make it a giant parking lot, Im sure she was serious there too.
By the way, the courses of action in this war are absolutely nothing compared to the war crimes committed in WWII, by all sides.

I was at that show and Fox took those comments way out of context.
"If the same laws were applied to U.S. presidents as were applied to the Nazis after WWII, then every single one of them, every last rich white one of them from Truman on would be hung to death and shot.

And this current administration is no exception. They should be hung and tried and shot, as any war criminal should be. For the challenges that we face, they go way beyond administrations, way beyond elections, way beyond every four years of pulling levers, way beyond that.

Because this whole rotten system has become so vicious and cruel, that in order to sustain itself, it needs to destroy entire countries and profit from their reconstruction in order to survive. And that's not a system that changes every four years, that's a system that we have to break down, generation after generation after generation after generation after generation..."
So much wrong with that video of her saying that shit.

You can't take either of them seriously. I like RATM's music a lot, but their politics are absolutely loony. And I don't mind FOX News too much, but Ann Coulter is loony as well. I think if you're on either on the far end of the spectrum here you're the big loser.

You know something, you liberals really piss me off anymore. You think you're so smart when all you know is what you hear your favorite communist rock band tell you about politics or what you see on The Communist News Network (CNN). Now I love Rage Against the Machine, and many other liberal rock bands, but they need to just shut up about politics. All these members from Rage Against the Machine are completely wacked out in their views. If there were more people in the world like them this place would be a bigger mess than it already is. Ann Coulter and Ted Nugent are two of the smarter people in the world these days along w/ Dave Mustaine and Alice Cooper and all you people that are bashing them just need to shut the fuck up because none of you have a clue what's really going on in the world. I'm a Christian first, conservative second, and republic third and proud of it. I would have to say that if there were more people like Ann Coulter, Ted Nugent in the world and less people like the members of Rage Against the Machine this world would be a much better place. If you don't like what I have to say then go fuck off and get yourself a real education and find out what's actually going on in the world you fucking pussies!

Okay, return of the me, for one comment.

To classify people as either conservative or liberal, and use the two in a negative connotation is, in my opinion, rather ignorant, because the people who classify others as such do not look deep into the others' views enough to make an educated insinuation on why the other is so horrible.

Just an informative fact for you, Bandit, whom i already love. Welcome, by the way: The United States' Constitution was written out of purely "liberal" thought, the power to give an individual the liberties of their choice. And that is the basis of so called "liberalism". At the time the article was written, conservatism meant loyalty to the monarch, not identifying with classic morals that meant no sex before marriage, or economic freedom. The Declaration of Independence might as well have been written by John Locke, because the topics mentioned in it are almost entirely outlined in Locke's Two Treatsies of Government.

From a personal perspective, I am a libertarian. I believe that nonviolent personal freedom is a natural right, and that economic freedom without government intervention is also important.

Now, to my response to the topic:

I love Rage. I love their music, and I love their want for personal freedom. They are extremist, but their music is influential and well, great. And Ann Coulter, I prefer not to touch, because she is..............an asshole. I just ignore what she has to say, because she is just a slight step down from authoritarianism.

Hey Spat. =)

"From a personal perspective, I am a libertarian. I believe that nonviolent personal freedom is a natural right, and that economic freedom without government intervention is also important."

I for the most part agree with you about that. It seems over the years the people that used to be liberal are now considered conservative and the people that used to be conservative are now considered liberal. It's amazing how much the meaning of things can change over the years. I very much respect for libertarians, while I don't agree w/ everything they believe, I love their desire and understanding of true freedom.

As for Rage Against the Machine, I do love their music. They're extremely talented and obviously very influential. I don't agree with their politics much at all, especially their methods to get what they want, but I don't discredit their overall intelligence as human beings because they all seem very smart. I think people from both side of the political spectrum tend to take things to far sometimes. But hey, it's a free country and we're all welcome to our opinion whether we agree or not.

Ted Nugent came out in the mid 70's, not the 90's and has remained active over the years. What makes you say they're idiots? I need to hear something that actually backs that up before I'd even consider believing that, so please, expound.

Yes, I'm aware that Ted Nugent came out in the 70's. That was my point. What has he done lately? Toured around playing his "greatest hits"? Do interviews for Fox News? The main reason people know about him now is because of his politics and how outspoken he is.
I like some of Ted Nugents stuff (Stranglehold is a classic), but what gives him the credibility to go on the news and criticize Zach for stating his views? I don't care that they disagree with what was said, but to go on national television and cast judgement on someone else like that is ridiculous. As for them being idiots, I'm not trying to make you "believe" me, I was stating my opinion. No one can have opinions though, without somebody saying how wrong they are. Ann Coulter is just scum though. Not just from this, but she has a laundry list of stupid shit she has done and said.

Edit: I just read your other post, guitarbandit, and have concluded that you didn't even deserve a response.

Well, he wasn't really casting judgement on Zach, he was more just saying what he felt about his comments. And why don't I deserve a response? At least I have beliefs and reasons for believing them unlike some people here that can't say anything more than "bush sucks." It's obvious you and a few others here do too and while I don't agree with all of those views I respect you for actually thinking them out and having reason. The people that really piss me off are the ones that have no reason for what they believe and only believe it because they hear it on the news or from some band singing about it.

I know that he's well educated and very smart, that's one of the scary things about him, he's smart and well spoken about his views, but that doesn't make them right. Hitler was a very smart man too, does that make what he said and did right? No, it doesn't. Tom Morello has numerous socialist beliefs and if I'm not mistaken has even admitted to being a socialist. I can tell you right now that socialism does not work. Look at the effects it's had on any place that has had a socialist system. Point is, just because someone is smart and knows what they're talking about, doesn't mean they're right.
