who is the singer
|
| |
Bradley Walden, used to be in a band called Squid The Whale.
what do you think of his sound? also, i already miss Jonas. did anyone else catch that he was one of the guitarists on Sea of Treachery's 'At Daggers Drawn'?
|
| |
I really wanted them to come back but now.... Eh. Singer sounds pretentious and trying to emulate Craig. Only Roetter could've brought this band back to life. This stuff is just too boring.
|
| |
Meh. These guys have so much potential, but seem to be content with emulating better bands and not really coming into their own.
But yeah, wayyyy too much J. Craig worship in those vox.

Jonas plays on this whole album, him and Lukas literally JUST left because they were in the band during the Chiodos tour.

I'm a fan, it does sound a little like Craig vocal wise but it's not a huge deal to me at least.
|
| |
That chorus sounds so fucking familiar... can't place it though.

Exactly, it really doesn't sound like a ripoff of Craig's style much to me, sounds more like Bradley's own style from Squid the Whale. And I think the vocals in this are immaculate.

| |
honestly, i think he sounds better than jonny craig has lately

Not to mention Bradley has more than the same few melodies and runs he recycles over and over, and he actually contributes to the songwriting process.

He sounds like johnny craig meets patrick stump.

EP with Roetter ruled so hard

Yeah, and Corsetes Are Cages.
Better than anything this band and his band has done

Post-hardcore rockers
They are a ROCK band in some sense, no?... I just thought it would be a more interesting way of saying "post hardcore band", but damn didn't realize so many people would have a problem with it lol

Already sounds like it's going to end up one of their strongest albums.
|
| |
Sounds just like jonny craig at a lot of points but this song is great. Really enjoy it and it continues in the direction they were going with the self titled. Suprised its good considering they lost their singer, drummer and guitarist.. that alone could be a full band.
Also, did they announce this album a long time ago..? I swear I have seen that album cover before.
|
| |
btw, I just looked them up on spotify and they have another new song on there called "Mad".
|
| |
I wish they'd focus more on the instrumentals than trying to sound exactly like when they still had JC

It was announced way back in March, but it was delayed, presumably due to the member departures. The guitarist and drummer who left are on the whole album, they left VERY recently.
|
| |
^ ahhhhh okay, that makes much more sense because the two songs they released sound just like their self titled album which would make sense since the only difference is a singer that sounds similair to their last singer. Thanks for clearing that up, I knew I had seen that album cover before.

Not the same without Jonny [7]
|
| |
Ehh, to me it honestly sounds like Bradley Strains his voice at times. He tries to hit notes that he just can't and it makes him sound like he's whining (I.E. Chorus to Mad). It doesn't seem to come natural, like he forces it. Don't get me wrong I liked his Squid the Whale run and this is okay, but he seems like he's trying too hard to emulate Jonny's style, and he just doesn't have a powerful enough voice to do so. So far, it seems like they've traded powerful vocals for a larger range in sound.
|
| |
^ wat.

I actually think Bradley strains less than Jonny and sounds like he has more versatility overall, but that's just me.
|
| |
people associate a gravelly, non-autotuned voice with straining which is pretty funny.
|
| |
Really? I mean Jonny does have a very small vocal range, that's for sure, but
I'd say he's moves very freely and easily in that range. Whereas I feel that Bradley has a lager range but can't move as freely in higher tones. I just don't like the squeaky, stagnant vocal performance in Mad, and ever since I've heard it I can't un-hear whenever he does something that sounds stressful. I want to add, when I saw them live he deliberately tried to not hit those high notes in Mad which kinda gave me that 'he really forces it' vibe, which might have helped color my perceptions.
|
| |
Yup, my opinion is totally invalid. It's not like Jonny had gravelly well performed vocals or anything, and it's not like I've made any rational argument, right? Some people...
|
| |
doesn't sound like jonny craig at all. guy uses similar vocal techniques i guess, but the actual timbre of his voice is way different.
|
| |
vocals are super layered. hear this more and more these days, especially within this "genre" of bands. sounds super fake. Maybe it's just me? Am I getting old? Get off my lawn.

I'm excited enough for this

Even a shitty underoath worship band would be better than a crappy written song.
