Sounds so good. What could be wrong with an album having the lyrics of Jane Doe and the musicianship of We Are the Romans?
| |
It slays
| |
Musicianship is nothing like We Are The Romans, they're past the Botch worship of O God The Aftermath. This is just 3rd wave NJ, in a simplified nutshell dissonant core + Thrice.
But yeah, pretty good so far. Similar to Meridional.
| |
I mean the quality is like that of We Are the Romans imo.
| |
Definitely digging this. I'm thinking maybe a 4
| |
"I mean the quality is like that of We Are the Romans imo. "
No, but it is good
| |
I could see that Xing, that's my rating for Meridional. It's structured nearly identical, the songs are just different and of about equal quality.
| |
I think it's more cohesive than Meridional, but it did have some sweet tracks on it. "The Anthem of the Angry Brides" is awesome
| |
Meridional just didn't have the best flow, but it had alot of good songs.
| |
Meridional was good and had a ton of great tracks but it wasn't Norma except for the first two or so songs. This is definitely a step up and the best since Redeemer
| |
I donno, Norma's been doing those radiofriendly type songs since Scogin left. I didn't really get back into em until Meridional came out. I had a short stint with O God in between.
| |
Come on now, Redeemer Norma is best Norma
| |
no.
traffids kicks ass, my best song from them so far
| |
lol no way Redeemer was meh overall
| |
wow, this rules. haven't dug modern hardcore punk this much in quite a while.
| |
This is possibly their best album to date, and I'm pretty impartial to Bless the Child. I almost forget that it's Norma Jean and not the Chariot though because of Josh.
| |
"This is possibly their best album to date"
This might be true if it remains as awesome as it is to me now
| |
It destroys The Anti Mother, that's for sure. "Robots 3 Humans 0" is arguably the worst song they've ever written.
| |
It's definitely "wow" worthy.
| |
Good to hear people are digging it. I'm just going to wait til I get my hard copy.
| |
This band is severely underrated on this site. A 3.6 is seriously the highest average they have? That's insane
| |
Yeah, people are ignoring how well they play their shit live. They slay.
| |
Yeah I think the ratings for Meridional and Redeemer could be a bit higher.
| |
Redeemer def has some of Norma Jean's best
| |
Bless The Martyr is still my fav. I need to jam O God The Aftermath some more, I used to really like it then it grew off of me.
| |
Wow yeah this new album is definitely their best imo ... mmMmMHMMMM
| |
I definitely still remember a few of the songs from O God The Aftermath that I loved, looking forward to rediscovering it.
| |
Vertebraile may be my favorite Norma Jean song and the time signatures in it are straight up baffling.
| |
Liarsenic is amazing too
| |
these guys pretty much killed it live when i saw em, but i haven't truly dug any of the recorded tracks i've heard
| |
^Agreed
| |
I've never heard a full Norma album but I will jam this cuz why not
| |
I haven't heard that song in forever, I remember it kicked ass. Scientifiction used to be my favorite song on that album, the climax is sooooo epic.
| |
gotta check, im a sucker for these guys
| |
from what you guys are saying about it I'm itching to listen to this tomorrow now. Always dug the band
| |
yeah o god the aftermath is wayyy better but this is still really good
| |
Third song is dope
| |
I'm generally not a fan of clean vocals in metalcore music but they do it so well on this album.
| |
every go listen to o god the aftermath 5/5
| |
O God and Meridonial are the only two albums I've been able to say I love at times in the past so I'm excited to hear all the good stuff about this.
| |
better than that but yeah
| |
i didnt like meridonial that much honestly
| |
Honestly I like most of their discog kinda meh with Anti Mother and Meridional was so so but this sounds so much more organic than anything they've ever done. Definitely my favorite NJ release.
| |
In love with this album already and I'm not even a big fan of these dudes. Ordering this shit mañana.
| |
Hive Minds caught me off guard, so nasty sounding
| |
Album is fantastic; closing track is especially awesome.
| |
Really good album. Might have to check out the band's other albums.
| |
It's my favorite album by the band.
| |
ahh this is a great Underoath replacement
| |
Love the end of "Harry Potter has no hands"
| |
Love this band, lookin forward to jamming this!
| |
Needs more Sharkbites
| |
lol no way Redeemer was meh overall
^this
if this sounds anything like their last I'll dig it
| |
never gotten big into this band but this is fucking dope
title track is too good
| |
Need to listen to this. I bet it rules.
| |
If You Got It At Five got me really excited for this. turns out to be the best song on here by a fairly huge margin.
stop trying to make clean/"catchy" choruses, you're not fucking good at it.
| |
Norma Jean praise on sputnik?! Glorious day. Can't wait to hear this.
| |
"of course the first comment on this thread had to be some fuck mentioning botch gtfo"
yeah people should NEVER EVER compare bands that pioneered a sound to ones that adopted it! that would be stupid!
| |
No they shouldn't when this bands been around for over ten years. Get the fuck over it.
| |
Norma Jean praise on sputnik?! Glorious day. Can't wait to hear this. [2]
Bout time. 'Meridional' was dope, and criminally under appreciated.
| |
Chill out dude. I wasn't saying they sound like Botch, I was just comparing the quality in that I think both are great records.
| |
Listened to half of this and it sounds like a good, regular Norma Jean album...some of ya'll must be bandwagon'
| |
Rules so hard
| |
My opinion is still just begun incubating. Soundcloud pissed me off. So far I've heard tracks 2, 5, 7, 8, 11 and couldn't play the others.
| |
Holy shit 14 minute long closer
| |
Word. Yea I mean the comparisons between the two bands are warranted. It's just pretty dumb to discuss after this many years. Anyway, Norma jean are under appreciated on here. Glad to see this getting good vibes so far.
| |
Agreed
| |
Its okay so far. Nothings blowing me away though.
| |
There is a lot of irony in the album title
| |
listening to this again right now to make sure i wasn't just high and gushing over this last night but nope it still rules
first 5 tracks are killer but there really isn't anything bad
| |
Clearly they named the album on opposite day
omg I'm so funny aren't I?!
| |
Wow...this is really, really awesome. I'm just really impressed. The new dudes in the band really brought a new energy to them and it is obvious. And it is awesome. Wow, was definitely not expecting this album to be this good.
| |
Guys, I was once in love with Norma Jean and I don't think this is any better than the last 2 rekordz
| |
If you don't think this is at least better than Anti-Mother, you are delusional
| |
Maybe a little bitty titty but on par with Meridonial and Redeemer.
| |
And I'm not saying they are bad albums, I like them, but they're not a 4.x
or this one.
| |
Well alright, I guess I should listen to a few more times.
But I like the anti mom much more than a 2.5. Self Employed Chemist is one of my favorite songs of them and the hornet thing is cool as well.
| |
This sounds great so far.
I don't care what anyone says, Redeemer is their masterpiece.
| |
I disagree, but I can see why you'd think so.
I should have added IMO at the end of my statement.
| |
first three songs rule!. need more time.
| |
I hate that cover art but I still might buy this because it sounds awesome.
| |
Norma Jean have never really had good choice of album covers.
Except Redeemer.
| |
Artwork in the O' God lyric booklet won a VH1 award if I recall correctly.
| |
It got nominated for a Grammy, not that I could tell you why
| |
yea, that was it.
| |
^so true. The dude who made those pictures/photographs/witchcraft deserved that grammy.
| |
I don't own the physical and I've never bothered to get scans but I thought it was just the front cover that was nominated. I guess that makes more sense. Time to find some scans I guess
| |
yeah the inside is really cool with all the tree people and what not
| |
this is really good so far. it's the first time since o'god where the songs actually flow together really well. every other album since has just been a collection of songs rather than a well-flowing album. definitely one of their best.
| |
yeah I forgot how trippy the pics in the O' God booklet were. The Meridional booklet is even better imo.
| |
Their artwork has always been good. What you talkin bout willis?
| |
o god is underrated
| |
"Norma Jean have never really had good choice of album covers.
Except Redeemer."
Agreed, though like everyone's saying, the pictures inside the booklet on O, God are freakin' crazy.
| |
What about that elephant demon on the previous album cover
| |
Yea, that one was pretty sweet. Very Norma Jean.
| |
album rules
| |
"Norma Jean have never really had good choice of album covers."
they're 3/6 imo. first 3 covers are pretty great.
| |
I'D SELL MY SOUL FOR YOU.
Album slays.
| |
4.1/5
sword in mouth, fire eyes is one of my favorite songs of the year
| |
psht
| |
i have never been a big fan of this band but just like the chariot they finally managed to put it together
| |
if i could slap you through my computer screen i would
| |
no
| |
"yikes, both this and the chariots last efforts were abysmal"
lol remind me to ignore everything you say from now on
| |
this album shreds
| |
i have never been a big fan of this band but just like the chariot they finally managed to put it together
this so many times
| |
