Vocalists quit Monuments

2011-05-24 by TechieCore | 16 Comments
British metal band Monuments have parted ways with vocalists Neema Askari and Greg Pope as a result of musical differences.

The remaining members wrote on Facebook: "Unfortunately after much deliberation we are sad to announce that due to an internal difference of where to take the band, Greg & Neema are no longer a part of Monuments. It's a decision that no one wanted to make but it is something that is in the best interest of all parties concerned.

"Looking forward to the future and the album, well, musically it's finished so we are now announcing our search for a new vocalist to finish it with us to take it to the point of release and beyond. This album has been in the writing stage for over 2 years and we want to get it out there for all you guys and girls to enjoy (hopefully!).

"Quite a lot of you have heard a big chunk of the material on the ‘Winds of Plague’ and ‘Periphery’ tours, so some of you already know what to expect and your patience is very much appreciated, we promise you it's coming. News will be out soon about the album along with a song premiere.

"Our forthcoming shows in Trier and Ireland with Parkway Drive will go ahead as planned, with a fill-in vocalist or instrumental dependant on the amount of time we have to rehearse!"

That's not the way Neema's telling it on his facebook. Apparently, John wanted to leave the band and start another, and the vocalists were "blackmailed" into leaving by him. Who knows. Neema was one of the sickest vocalists in the scene.

Quotes from Neema's facebook statuses, in case anyone was interested. Just for objectivity's sake, I guess.

"...Email from Browne "coz as of right now, the best option seems to be teach guitar and move to the states when/if my visa gets approved. Even if my visa doesn't get approved i don't see me wanting to continue on with Monuments." Me and greg didnt leave...Its not right that browne puts up posts on behalf of me and greg. This in manipulation and blackmail!"

"‎'Either you do this this and this or i leave the band...' Thats Democrasy apparently? x"

"Sorry yes greg did announce...but not because he wanted to. But because we were blackmailed! x"

"I tried an hour ago to call but he didnt call back instead he posted that! I keep trying to do the right thing and its not working. i'm kinda stuck here "

" Guys these messages are overwhelming Thankyou so much for all of your support. Right now it does kinda feel like sum1's cut out my kidney and left me for dead, but all of your messages, negative and positive, are helping to define who i am and why i didnt give up years ago . An apology...Im sorry for the previous FB post was off the cuff and in retaliation. Possibly the worst type of FB post! Love you all x"

No need for the Facebook drama here really. Nonetheless, it's pretty obvious the vocalists didn't just 'quit'. That said, I think it's a dodgy fucking move as they made Monuments sound different and interesting.

After touring with Periphery, they probably realized they needed a vocalist like Spencer Sotelo, and not some whingy high pitched hyena screamers.

high pitched hyena screamers

you say that like it's a bad thing. they pretty much made the band. i don't see myself liking the album without them.

This annoys me greatly, they were awesome when I saw them live and they both gave the band a unique sound.

This is like if sikth had lost their vocalists and continued as a band. This sucks

Seconding bowlofsoup's comment.

They should just release the album with Neema/Greg's vocals. Seriously, they were part of what made the band sound so unique.
