The piece represents the main character of the film, young Charlene McGee, who discovers a fearsome power inside of her as she grows closer to adolescence. It maybe sounds like two old, sexually compatible friends catching up over the holiday season and discovering that each other are a bit of alright. 3.3

It was the first time I was ever moved by a video game soundtrack when I first experienced it as a kid. It still remains one of the absolute best video game soundtracks of all time, and the numerous iterations of covers makes it near impossible to choose what to share from it. Frog's Theme was always my favorite.

It was the center of civilization but has since turned to ruins, with it's inhabitants going mad and not remembering their past lives. Instead of it being angry or vicious, it is just sad and melancholic and full of atmosphere. Goosebumps every time I hear it.

Koris 07.03.21	Definitely check out Jade Cocoon. That one's my favorite out of all those games, and still one of my favorites of all time. Gameplay-wise, it's a cross between Pokemon's monster-breeding and Final Fantasy's combat system. I was also super tempted to use a song from its soundtrack for my entry, because it's still my favorite soundtrack of all time. A beautiful combination of bombastic orchestral work and reflective new age sections with a folk influence. I have a review of the soundtrack on here if you ever wanna check it out :]

Tree of Life - As someone who as played pretty much every single iteration of anything Mega Man, this might be the least representative example of Mega Man's various soundtracks. It's a pretty good song though, definitely picks up nicely in the 2nd half. I like it enough. 3.5 2.) Supporting Me - Certainly an interesting song, surprised to hear the lyrics come in, kinda reminded me of what Pendulum would sound like if they made a video game OST. Doesn't really come to any climax in a memorable way, but a solid track. 3 3.) Tristram - Well yeah, it's one of the most iconic video game songs ever written. Even when you're back in the town buying potions and scrolls, you feel unease, gotta love that. 4.5 4.) Untitled - Sounds like Dungeon Synth, sounds like a garas rec. I love this because this could have been released on a new Fief record and I wouldn't bat an eye. Cool song, nice melodies, and instrumentation. 4 5.) Nascence - Beautifully crafted and atmospheric. Still need to play Journey, but sounds like it might be worth it for the soundtrack alone. A bit short as a standalone piece but still effective - 4 6.) Leaving Home - welp, congrats, you broke the video game OST theme. Sounds like a Baroness interlude. Pleasant song, but pretty unmemorable. 3

Not too into this, but it's not bad. 3/5 "Supporting Me" Oh, this was the first video game I ever owned. Not the first I ever played, but owned. This was when Shadow fights the Biolizard right? Hardest boss in the game, even harder than the Final Hazard. This is kinda like poppy industrial rock and I never noticed the strings until now, weird. It's no Security Hall though. Cool enough. 3.4/5 "Tristram" Medieval nerd folk so far. Now it's even nerdier oh my god. Dungeons and Dragons/Renaissance Fair cosplay ambient. Flutes, guitar, no vocals, I'm bored. When is this going to end? 2.4/5 "Untitled" More nerdy renaissance music, what the fuck guys? This is soundtrack month! Do you know how many cool soundtrack songs there are? I'll give a higher score for this because it's not nearly as long. 2.6/5 "Nascence" Solo cello so far, okay. Wait, there's some harp. I can't imagine a bard playing this, so it's already better than the last two. Kind of sophisticated and classical. Short and sweet, but not too interesting. 3/5 "Leaving Home" Pretty guitar, very mellow. This reminds of "Return to Hot Chicken" but slower and simpler. I guess you guys all thought "background" soundtrack stuff. This is nice enough. 3.5/5

ArsMoriendi 07.09.21	"Courage" Pretty bluesy folk music with strings. Not the most grabbing, but it's nice. Very somber. 3.1/5 "Charly the Kid" Intense beginning. I know it's not Tangerine Dream's style to include vocals, but a floaty emotional male lead would work so well with this soundscape they created here. Like Peter Gabriel or something. I don't like how it just abruptly ends, but it's was cool while it was happening. 3.5/5

Frog's Theme - 4.0 - I never played Chrono Trigger (Yeah I know, shame on me, and I even own both a SNES and a DS) and this was kindof a meme version so I listened to the original as well. Damn good soundtrack for a game this old. I might actually see if they have this on the switch and get it now.

The best songs this month are the ones that choose to actively engage instead of just setting the mood and trying not to get in the way otherwise. If you're trying not to get in the way, you're also going to miss getting into my heart y'know? So as much as this fits the game, it's really boring on its own. 2.5/5 "Put Your Love in Me" Oh my god it's a full song! It's creepy, the percussion is pretty cool in a scattered kind of way and those echoey vocals make me feel like in an intense scene in some movie. It's kinda plodding though if I'm being honest. I'm 4 minutes in and I'm wondering where this can go since it's 7. Not the best thing ever, but decent enough. 3.3/5

SPOILER Currently on my 3rd playthough of this with A2 and nines, where the android twins fight off the machines and 9S finally enters that new tower in the city center. Just got there about 2 hours ago lol. This entire soundtrack is a 5. The way each theme changes at different parts of the games is genius. Sometimes you get stripped down music box variations, when you’re hacking and it turns to 16-bit, when suddenly a vocal layer comes in over top an old melody. Here’s the deal, I absolutely love this game and this soundtrack and this song. 5 20.) Mansion Basement – I’ve played the original RE many times on psx, but either never got to this part, or don’t remember this song. This is one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard, but I also love it. I like how the YouTube clip of it abruptly ends, like even they’ve heard enough. I listened to it four times to really sink myself into the atmosphere. Thank you for this. 5 21.) Duelist of the Roses - Sounds like something from Y's. Very Japanese neoclassical/metal hybrid. There's like a zillion songs that sound like this, but I dig all zillion of them. Kinda short, and never really sinks it's hooks in like others unfortunately though. 3.2

There's a strange sentimental charm with the keyboards and midi sounds used in that soundtrack, and for some reason it also makes a track like Anxious Heart even darker and more foreboding than it already is

Decent enough. 3/5 "Wretched Weaponry" Sounds like loading screen music. Piano, some electronics, metal rattling light industrial. A lot is going on for how airy and poppy it is. The vocals aren't very engaging, so I doubt this is the game's theme. Then again, the strings just got very intense, so maybe I'm wrong. Good enough. 3.3/5 "Mansion Basement" AVANT-GARDE HORNS. I mean it's unique and doesn't make me think of someone LARPing. Fuck it. 3.4/5

Like this isn't bad, but it feels like it's unremarkable on purpose because "it's about the gameplay, not the music, or something, just make it sound lively, but don't make it too ear catching." 3.2/5 "Otherworldly Foe" Trippy chiptune with a dance beat. Simple enough and probably the best of the month. 3.6/5 "The Duelist of the Roses" This sounds more like Pokemon music than the Pokemon one haha. This feels like a stylistic ripoff honestly. Very shreddy and metally. Annoying really. 2.5/5 "FeeCo Depot" Very sluggish. A lot of pausing too. Is it over? There are two minutes left on the video, but I no longer hear anything. Based on all of the pausing, I'm legitimately not sure. I got bored and scrubbed and yes it's just silence. 2.3/5 "Lost My Heart in Republic City" This is like a weird cross between Italian music and Chinese music. Like I'm riding in a gondola in a Shanghai bay. I guess there's a little jazz in there too with those drums. Not bad. Good show too even though season 2 was mostly terrible, especially the season 2 finale, my god Jinora was such a Deus ex machina. 3.6/5 "Dig" Yup, this is 80s music classic rock musian. Reminds me of George Harrison's "Got My Mind Set on You." Cheesy as hell stuff. 2.9/5 "Overdosing Heavenly Bliss" Kind of reminds me of the Super Smash Bros. Melee theme. This is whatever. 3/5 "Goodbye" Creepy pounding so far. Mysterious gothy vocals and weird acoustic guitar. This certainly isn't boring. Maybe I'll check this show one day. 3.5/5

The intro and verse is stuffed full of cheap synth adornment / sparkle which dates and cornifies it, but the chorus actually sounds lush and redeems the whole thing a bit. I'm going to settle on a 3 but with some editing and better presets this might have been really great.
