07.19.24 | R.E.M. fans: what would you rate this album if it existed instead of Up and Reveal? |
onionbubs
07.19.24 | i would definitely rate this album lower than up because up is much better than reveal, and this includes one of the two songs i don't like on up. but also i am a psycho i think airportman is their best song after berry left. also would swap some of the reveal cuts for saturn return and chorus and the ring, but really all i do with that album is just make fascinating the closer since the only song i dont like on that album is beachball
if anything in their discog needs this treatment though its document and green. really weak albums as is but their highlights are undeniably some of their best |

07.19.24 | Definitely not Document
Love Document outside of Strange and Lightning Hopkins |
DoofDoof
07.19.24 | I agree that if the production was smoothed out so that these tracks made sense sat next to each other (massively different production styles between these two sets) then this would equal a 3.5 - where 'Up' is currently a 3 and 'Reveal' a 2.5. |

07.19.24 | 1. pop song 89
2. welcome to the occupation
3. exhuming mccarthy
4. stand
5. world leader pretend
6. disturbance at the heron house
7. i remember california
8. oddfellows local 151
9. king of birds
10. untitled
would probably 4 that. maybe find a home for fireplace somewhere. leave its the end of the world and the one i love on the shelf where they belong tbh. former is one of their worst songs with berry, latter is just driver 8 on autopilot. lightnin hopkins is the worst for sure though |

07.19.24 | I haven't heard either in SOoooOoo long, but remember really enjoying each. Don't recall either lacking in any significant way.
I suppose that could change with a relisten, when I get around to it. |

07.19.24 | up has held together pretty solidly for me overtime. always thought it was a better album of theirs outside of lotus and apologist |

07.19.24 | "leave its the end of the world and the one i love on the shelf where they belong tbh"
Wild take onion and no Turn You Inside-Out either? Damn that one's so fun |
onionbubs
07.19.24 | yeah i did not like the late 80s hits from this band for long enough that i just assumed this band on the whole weren't for me until i finally gave auto another jam and realized they were significantly significantly more than that. that said their 90s singles generally rule
turn you inside out is ok. never really stood out to me as particularly good or bad |

07.19.24 | "then this would equal a 3.5 - where 'Up' is currently a 3 and 'Reveal' a 2.5."
I agree with all of this. Even combined this would still only be a 3.5 for me too |

07.19.24 | this particular tracklist would probably be a 3.5 yeah |

07.19.24 | Listening to this order lol and the transition between "Diminished / I'm Not Over You" into "The Apologist" was pretty epic |
