Sunn O))) (pronounced simply "Sunn") is an American doom/drone metal/dark ambient band consistingof StephenO'Malley(Khanate, Burning Witch) and Greg Anderson (Goatsnake). The band was formedas a tribute to Earth, another veryheavy bandand pioneers of drone metal.Their sound is extremely slow and heavy, using droning guitars accompanied by feedback and othersound effects to createtheirsoundscapes. There is very little drumming and a lack of any discerniblebeat. When playing live the band wear longhoodedcloaks, and create such a powerful sonic attackaround themselves, that it's said to cause headaches and involuntarybowelmovements due to theextremely heavy bass. The latter condition is likely no more than urban legend, however.
