Brand New

Formed on Long Island, NY, Brand New appeared on the punk pop scene in 2000. Consisting of drummer Brian Lane,vocalist/guitarist Jesse Lacey, bassist Garrett Tierney, and guitarist Vin Accardi, the band began making a name for itself onthe local scene with a self-released four-song demo and shows with bands like Midtown and Glassjaw. In 2001, they issuedtheir first record, Your Favorite Weapon, on Triple Crown, produced by friend Mike Sapone. Lacey's clever and cuttinglyrics sprinkled the album, which produced the semi-hit "Jude Law and a Semester Abroad", and more touring with TakingBack Sunday and Finch followed. Proving to be more than just another punk pop band, the group made something of a stylistic leap with Deja Entendu, a decidedly mature follow-up, recorded with Steve Haigler (Pixies, Blake Babies) and released in summer 2003 to rave reviews from critics and fans alike. Music videos for "The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows" and "Sic Transit Gloria ... Glory Fades" found constant airplay on MTV, while earning Brand New slots with New FoundGlory, Dashboard Confessional, and blink-182.By fall, as the band's notable underground following continued to grow in strides, they inked a deal with Dreamworks, whichlater led to them finding a home on Interscope following the former label's buyout. Touring eventually slowed to a halt asBrand New holed themselves up to work on their third full-length and major label debut. After an extended quiet spell — littleto no interviews or updates came from the band's camp for quite sometime — Brand New finally emerged in the summer of2006 for U.S. headlining dates, their first nationwide tour in three years. The highly-anticipated The Devil and God areRaging Inside Me appeared in November 2006 to great reception, critical and fan alike. In October 2008, it was announcedby the band that they were recording vocals for a new album. In late September of 2009, their new album, Daisy, wasreleased. It took a heavier approach compared to their previous albums, taking more influence from grunge and post-hardcore. Becoming their highest charting album yet, it debuted at number 6 on theBillboard 200.Since then, new Brand New material has been farand few between. The band began writing new material in 2009, shortlyafter there lease of Daisy. It wasn't until June of 2014 that the band had officially entered the studio to begin writingand recording new material. Brand New released two singles,Mene in April of 2015 and I Am the Nightmare in Mayof 2016, and a remaster of their 2006 leaked demos, Fight Off Your Demons, titled Leaked Demos 2006. A newalbum had been scheduled to debut sometime in 2016. In June of 2016, the band announced two new shirt designs, containing the phrase "2000-2018", creating speculations of a 2018 break-up.In 2017, the band finally released a new album,Science Fiction, which once again was hailed by fans and critics alike.Unfortunately, during the tour to support this album, an allegation of sexual misconduct against Lacey forced the cancellationof the rest of the tour. As of 2019, it's unclear as to whether the band will work on any future projects together. « hide
