In anticipation of Keane’s fourth studio album Strangeland (to be released this Tuesday, May 8th), Sputnik will be hosting a prize pack giveaway. The contest is based upon the music video to their latest single, “Disconnected”, which was filmed by directors Juan Antonio Bayona and Sergio G. Sanchez inside a haunted house in Barcelona while following a distinct 70’s horror aesthetic. The contestant who submits the best movie slogan/tagline in 15 words or less (i.e. Jaws‘ “Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water”) will receive the following:

-Strangeland CD
-Strangeland 12” vinyl record
-Strangeland poster

The winner will be chosen based on originality, cleverness, and/or humor, as well overall quality of the slogan. All answers should be sent via email to sowingsputnik@gmail.com. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, May 13th.

The music video can be viewed below. Good luck to all of the contestants involved!

Also, you can show your support for the band by pre-ordering Strangeland via iTunes. Get the album reserved today!

The old idea was a little too complicated considering the timeframe and the means of the people submitting, so the contest has been revised.

This should be even easier to win, so you might as well take your shot!

Alright guys:

I can win this, but it's a Keane prize pack, so why would I?

For whoever wants a winning entry, email me at theacademy@gmail.com. There will be paypal involved or possibly an exchange of slipknot vinyl.

Good luck!

ARE YOU SERIOUS?!!

Could you like, put your address down and then mail it out of the country or something? This is the 21st century gaiz.

Also, c'mon Ty - 1997's Pop was awesome, as was How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb. No Line on the Horizon had its moments too.

Tyrael
05.11.12
Those albums carefully destroyed the band's legacy so in that sense they were really successful yea

Irving
05.11.12
Biggest band in the world, largest ever grossing tour in the history of mankind...yeah, legacy destroyed indeed.

Tyrael
05.11.12
glad you agree man

I was gonna tell you a story about how metallica became big through selling out hard and ulitimately releasing one of the worst albums of all time but you already got my point so yea

Irving

I think you misunderstand the meaning of the word "legacy." Also big props to you if you can explain to me how, exactly, U2 sold out.

Tyrael
05.12.12
Well, besides the fact that Pop was just an all-round horrible experiment gone wrong, lately U2 sounds more like a U2 lite. They sound tired, uninspired and their attempts at catchy songs just make me want to relisten TJT/War/AB...

I respect that you feel differently about them but you have to understand that I grew up with this band, and over time I gradually started to dislike them because of their inabilty to spice up their sound (succesfully). Sorry Irving.

Irving
05.13.12
Having read through your comment, I'm starting to think our debate is going to be mainly about semantics. This is (are) the point(s) I was trying to make:

i.) Is U2's legacy dead? No.
ii.) Is 1980-1990 U2 better than modern day U2? Yes (this is one fricking short end of the stick to have to argue).
iii.) Pop is an amazing album. Sure, a couple of dud tracks here and there but I don't see why someone would choose albums like October, Boy, and even Zooropa over it.

"never heard these guys ill give it a shot"-foxxy

You've never heard of Keane? Great band. They do have that light rock/mellow/bland sound of Coldplay or Travis or Snow Patrol or Codes but far more consistent. Made 4 very good albums, go through them starting with Hopes & Fears (skip the Night Train EP but Clear Skies from that is a great song and they have a tonne of good b-sides).

Deadline has arrived. Winners will be announced later. Thanks to those who participated!

Irving

Sowing even if I don't win can you please still make a list/blogpost extolling my (many) virtues?

Sowing
05.16.12
I am proud to announce that we have two winners for the competition:

1.) Our very own Irving Tan Zhi Mian
2.) An outside submission from Maarij Siddiq

These contestants will be receiving the prize of a Strangeland CD, a vinyl copy, and a poster. In Irving's case, I also promised him a list full of praise and that will be delivered shortly. Thanks to everyone who submitted, and congrats again to our two winners!
