7 Days of Nickelback

As some of you may have noticed i listened to Nickelback from last thursday till yesterday. My initial idea was to listen to nothing else and get my feeling for good music back to where it once was by listening to some of the most bland music out there. Also i felt kinda bored and wanted to try something new. It felt worse from day to day. On the third day i was close to losing faith in my mission as my mood subsided into the abyss. On fourth day i could not handle it anymore and treated myself to some good music. Surprisingly (and a little concerningly) after that treatment i could enjoy Nickelbacks music far better than before. In fact i was a little concerned about that. So on day 5 and 6 i didn't listen much out of fear of becoming a cock rocker. But at this point i already had listened to all their albums. In retrospect my plan worked and my joy for good music reignited. And now i know Nickelbacks discog so theres that...

Curb

So my journey began here as i wanted to listen to them chronologically.
I immediately heard the grunge influence in their debut and there also was some kind of rawness in here that was absent in their later records.
But goddamn its so fucking boring and generic post grunge bullshit.
Its not really that its offensively horrible, its just so boring.
The worst part about this album are the vocals tho, they are annoying as fingernails on chalkboard.
Well they aren't that bad when you get used to them but this snare sound really drives me insane.

The State

This was basically more of the same with the same boring instrumentation.
in fact it got even more unimaginative.
'Leader of Man' is one of the most annoying songs i possibly ever witnessed.
Thankfully the vocals got a little more bearable, but that wont save this one from even being worse than their debut album.

Silver Side Up

So this seems to be where Kroeger began to write songs for the sole purpose of being played on the radio.
Its soulless.
Its bland.
Its even more boring than their first two records, and i'm worring about it getting even worse.
After the first two songs this album is basically all filler material anyway.

The Long Road

Well it doesn't get worse so fast.
This album has some fairly great rock songs on it that i have a fair amount of nostalgia for since they appeared on Flatout 2 which i thouroughly enjoyed playing back in the days.
Anyway, this album overall feels a little more visceral than silver side up, but again apart from songs like 'Flat on the Floor', 'Believe It Or Not' or 'Because Of You' this album consists mostly of filler garbage.
Thats most apparant with the two songs 'Do This Anymore' and 'Someday' which basically are self ripoffs of their earlier megahit song 'How You Remind Me'.

All the Right Reasons

This is the most bland and smalzy rock i heard prob ever.
Yeah def among them.
Fuck me man, seriously this gives me all kinds of boredome conditions and diseases.
Only somewhat listenable song on here is 'If Everyone Cared'.
I never want to listen again.

Dark Horse

This is actually quite enjoyable for a nickelback album.
They even tread into some really heavy rock here and there which is a plus for diversity even if the production and the guitar and drum sound is bland as fuck.
As im not one who listens to music for lyrics and i only rarely even concentrate on them, the themes on here dont really bother me.
For Nickelback standarts this is quite a diverse package of songs with some fairly good hooks and their best instrumentation till that day.
Of course that all is written from someone who listened to Nickelback for the past week so take what you want from it.

Here and Now

This is the epitome of guilty pleasure for me.
At one time i actually owned this on CD.
A couple months after i bought it (or i got it as a gift idk) i gave it to my uncle as a birthday present, which, im pretty sure of it today, didnt please him that much.
Still, after listening to all their previous material i still think this album holds up pretty good for their standarts.
It may be me knowing this album pretty well, but i feel like every song brings more to the table if you compare it to their previous albums.
You cant deny the slap of Rock'n'Roll on here.
Everything is at its peak for Nickelback here.
The riffs are comparatively imaginative and Chad's vocals became slightly more diverse and enjoyable.
As i said before i'm mostly not listening to the lyrics, so thats prob why i have a higher opinion of both dark horse and this one than the average sputnik user.

Here and Now

Im almost scared to give this a ranking but when i'm comparing this to All The Right Reasons, this is like a rock masterpiece.
3.0/5 "good" (Honestly this is a fun listen, slightly bothers me that its so hard for me to rate this as a good album because of the memetastic abysmal reputation that Nickelback trails.)

No Fixed Address

The title was meant as a discription here i guess.
They added more pop features on this their newest release, with some synth lines and EDM stuff.
Their feeling for hooks seems to get better the older they become.
This works like a better version of All The Right Reasons, as it is much more diverse than that album.
Doesn't mean its good tho, Flo Rida's contribution on 'Got Me Runnin' Round' for example is really strenuous.
Overall there's not much good to remember about this album.
