| 1 | | The Damned Damned Damned Damned
"I really despise any effort to describe what Punk Rock is or is not. The very idea kinda pisses me off. But after careful consideration I think the absolute single best "Poster Band" for Punk has to be the Damned. Not only were they there at the start, they had several "first's" with recordings and touring. They maintained an independent spirit while others sought out big record deals. They refused to be pigeon hold into a small box, they grew artistically and musically, defined fashion and culture, made incredibly great music. Were fucking cool as hell!!! And they just keep going. And while I also despise legacy punk bands. I give them a pass just because they have proven themselves over and over again through thick n thin." |
| 2 | | Nirvana Bleach
"The Punk resurrection is thankfully about to age out. The Hair Metal Comeback won't get any attention from me. And the return of Grunge won't be the same without Nirvana or Soundgarden.... But at least I'll fit in with all my flannel." |
| 3 | | ZZ Top El Loco
"Ever play music from your hard drive alphabetically? Today I just randomly selected the letter P. First song up was "Peace Train" by Cat Stevens. I love that song. Its a beautiful and powerful song. Next up was "People have the Power" by Patti Smith. Wow I was on a roll. Again such an empowering beautiful and powerful anthem. I was full of emotion, bursting at the seam with energy and power to change the world. I was on a roll, two songs that can fill the mind and heart with power to change the world. Something in me was gonna burst. My voice that could shout from the roof tops, my Heart that was pounding... Music is awesome. The next song was "Pearl Necklace" by ZZ Top." |
| 4 | | Elton John Honky Chateau
"A friend just send me some punk rock to listen to. It was surprisingly good. More rock than punk. He sent me another batch But before I listen to it I gotta listen to some Elton John or Cat Stevens to calm the fuck down. Then I can go back to all that yelling and screaming." |
| 5 | | The Clash London Calling
"For some reason I decided to listen to the entire LONDON CALLING album today. Two things came to mind. #1: Wow there is a lot of super radio friendly stuff on there. #2: Wow there is a lot of super boring radio friendly shity songs on there. Give me ROCKET TO RUSSIA any day." |
| 6 | | Polyphia Remember That You Will Die
"best guitarist in the world? I've gone down a rabbit hole watching a bunch of this kids videos and his band Polyphia. He's cute and is unquestionably talented. but his playing reminds me of a guy who learned how to play getting really good at Guitar Hero. Meh give me Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers ANY DAY!" |
| 7 | | Motorhead Ace Of Spades
"A well meaning friend of mine sent me a video of the band Chilliwack playing one of their radio friendly songs. Let me be very clear that am no fan of that stuff at all. But hell if it was not a catchy song. So catchy that it has been a worm in my head all morning long. ARGH!!!! I couldn't take it anymore so I took a break, hopped in my car and went for a drive BLASTING the whole Motorhead Ace of Spades album. Thank you Lemmy. From the grave you have saved me. But now I have that Jailbait song stuck in my mind and I KNOW THAT AINT RIGHT. ARGH. it ain't easy being me sometimes." |
| 8 | | The Weirdos Destroy All Music
"God I loved the WEIRDOS. Seeing them live was always soooooo much fun. I loved the way they dressed and I must confess that they influenced this young weirdo in how I dressed early on. I loved their songs, that guitar sound and how they disliked being boxed in by the "punk" label. As a young outcast I was more of a weirdo than a punk. I mean all the early punks were first and foremost WEIRDOS. I hate how some bands went out of their way to look normal. And yes Black Flag was one of those bands who seemed to go out of their way to look like their dads instead of embracing colour and vinyl etc. Dix Denney and his brother John were a sight for sore eyes. And their music was a tonic for my misfit ears. I miss that band probably more than most. And now Dix is gone. Play their music. If there is a weird bone in your body you will love it I promise" |
| 9 | | OFF! OFF!
"Wow Keith Morris just went OFF in my pants. Seriously I'm just minding my own business when all of a sudden I can feel and hear his unmistakable presence. How in the hell my phone just randomly decided to blast OFF in my back pocket is a mystery. It's not my imagination..." |
| 10 | | Jeff Beck Blow by Blow
"JEFF BECK WAS INSANELY AWESOME. FROM THE YARDBIRDS TO THE JEFF BECK GROUP ALBUMS WITH THE EXTRAORDINARY ROD FUCKING STEWART TO HIS SOLO WORK WHERE JUST LIKE BOWIE HE REFUSED TO STAY IN ONE BOX HE JUST RIPPED IT TO SHREDS. AMAZINGBALLS. RIP :(" |
| 11 | | Bing Crosby Merry Christmas
"Thank you Bing Crosby! For the last week I have had a Motorhead song stuck in my brain from the moment I wake up to the moment I start snoring. Now don't get me wrong it's an awesome song that I love dearly. But today it has been replaced by Bing's White Christmas" |
| 12 | | Hanoi Rocks Bangkok Shocks,Saigon Shakes,Hanoi Rocks
"All I want for my birthday is a time machine. And if I only got to use it once I would go back in time and punch Vince Neil to the ground before he could kill Razzle. So I could have seen Hanoi Rocks in LA as planned. I think the world would have been much better." |
| 13 | | The Dictators Manifest Destiny
"Manifest Destiny by the Dictators. I fucking love it. It's not the simple pop driven stuff like some of their other albums which are equally amazing. But I love those bombastic and epic arrangements. I love that album. What's your fave Dictators album?" |
| 14 | | Descendents 9th and Walnut
"Man I just got finished listening to the new Descendents album the one where they did all the old Frank and Toni era songs. The music is fantastic. And I'm reminded on just how great Milo is as a singer. But is it just me or did those kids have a lot of girl trouble or what!?!? I seem to remember songs about fishing and food but turns out they must've got burned by a shitload of gals." |
| 15 | | D.O.A. Hardcore 81
"D.O.A. told me to hate Disco (Disco Sucks ya hey!) And I did as I was told. But now a days I listen to Disco way way more than D.O.A." |
| 16 | | Judas Priest Turbo
"I'm not a metal fan so if I'm listening to anything metallic it would be Sabbath, Motorhead and Turbo Lover by Judas Priest. yeah that about covers it." |
| 17 | | Kelly Clarkson Breakaway
"Motorhead is as heavy as I get. I love Motorhead. But nothing much past that spectrum. Yep I'll take just about anything inbetween and including Kelly Clarkson and Motorhead. But I'll go no further." |
| 18 | | Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin IV
"I saw Led Zeppeling live at the Los Angeles Forum oh god I don't know how long ago. Anyway my seat was the actual worst seat in the house. it was dead center stage. However it was the absolute last row all the way back and up against the wall. There was literally no seats behind me. Well knowing this I brought a telescope. Not binoculars but a real life pirate style telescope. Trouble is as soon as they played Black Dog I started using the telescope as a drum stick on the seat infront of me and bent the shit out of it. Well after that I couldn't see a damn thing. Lol oh well they sounded great." |
| 19 | | My Chemical Romance Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge
"Damn You M.C.R. And your awesome catchy songs!!!!!" |
| 20 | | New York Dolls New York Dolls
"Don't bother having two guitarists in your band without listening to the Dolls first. I mean really don't waste yer time. two guitar bands are mostly horrible. here is a great example Of it being done right. Sounds like two alley cats scrapping and dancing and... just going at it like there is no tomorrow!!!" |
