Wildcardbitchesss
10.29.23 | Part III gets way too much hate. Obviously I and II are some of the best films ever made, possibly being the best mob films ever.
III is definitely a step down but is by no means bad. And it also birthed Sil’s iconic “Just when I thought I was out, THEY PULL ME BACK IN” |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.29.23 | art don’t read any of this for fucks sake, just watch it
However, this is one of maybe 2 shows where you can have everything spoiled for you and it doesn’t really make a difference. It’s that good.
For the record, The Leftovers is the only other show I can say that about, both stand head and shoulders above all television imo. |

Wildcardbitchesss
10.29.23 | @dominon
god I love that scene, Sil slowly being trailed away by what looks like a fucking treadmill.
It looks goofy as fuck but within the context of the episode I think it’s so brilliantly executed.
Its almost not fair to rank Sopranos episodes. Most seasons start slow and build to an explosive finale, so that’s why most of my favorites are later episodes in any given season.
But these incredible hours of television wouldn’t be possible without the earlier episodes laying the groundwork |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.29.23 | And honestly, without trying to be too dramatic, Whitecaps is number one because of how realistic the scenes between Carmella and Tony are.
I literally watched my parents have those arguments. Just shoving the most hateful shit you can think of, whether or not it’s completely true, just to hurt the other person.
Those two fight scenes are the best acting I’ve ever seen. |

i like sopranos quite a bit more but leftovers is still a brilliant show. only show that really comes close to sopranos for me is deadwood |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.29.23 | I’m watching Deadwood for the first time now!
I just got finished with the trial episode in season 1. This show really has me hooked. I know it got canceled prematurely, like a lot of great shows, so I’m excited to see where the show leads and how the movie finishes it. |

DominionMM1
10.30.23 | “it’s not racist, but the writers just can’t do black characters Justice“
well theyre not supposed to. the entire show is based on the mafia in new jersey and i dont think those people have high opinions of certain other ethnic groups |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.30.23 | No it’s not that. They legit just can’t write black characters.
A Hit is a Hit is a little cringey, but not that bad. Massive Genius is a decently written character.
But The Fleshy Part of the Thigh? I’m sorry, it’s fucking terrible. Probably the worst episode in the series.
That’s just not how gangbangers or whatever talk. The rapper gets rolled past Tony and goes “Tony Soprano, OG number 1”
Then you have his cringey ass lackey that was supposed to get his record produced by the main guy. It’s just not how people from the hood talk.
It’s just really bad writing.
But again, it’s one of my favorite shows ever, I can forgive a couple of missteps. it really is just straight up badly written. |

Wildcardbitchesss
10.30.23 | I STICK MOTHERFUCKIN PROVOLONE IN MY SOCKS AT NIGHT, SO THEY SMELL LIKE YOUR SISTERS CROTCH IN THE MORING
legit almost made my top ten. The Happy Wanderer is probably number 11 if I were to really rank it out. Funniest scene in the series imo |
Rowan5215
10.30.23 | Join the Club hella underrated as usual. nice list tho. Long Term Parking is potentially the greatest episode of anything |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.30.23 | I get Join The Club and Mayham mixed up a lot.
They’re both great, but when I really think about it, Mayham has one scene that just puts it above Join the Club.
The scene where Tony is looking at the house, and sees that silhouette of Livia while Tony B is trying to take his briefcase is just incredible. Sends chills down my spine every time I watch it.
Edie Falco really shines in those episodes. Her grief is just so real. Aside from Whitecaps, I think it’s probably her best acting in the entire series |

You have a Pine Barrens tat? Fuckin share dude lol. But yeah, the episode is overrated as hell. I loved it the first time I saw it, but on rewatch I like it less and less. Despite how entertaining he is, I don’t like Paulie. He’s one of the biggest pieces of shit in the entire show. It’s a very funny episode, maybe the funniest of the entire series. But I don’t think it’s top 10. If I ranked all of them it’d probably land like around #30.
Still great, but nowhere near the show’s best imo
@Bazman
Another episode that I think is pretty overrated. The Tony and Meadow stuff is great, but almost any scene with Father Phil falls flat to me. I do think on first watch that it’s for sure the episode that hooks you, but after multiple rewatches, i really hate the Carmella/Father Phil scenes. It’s all so inauthentic on Carmella’s part, which is probably the point. And I’d commend the show for that, but Father Phil is such an annoying, weaselly piece of shit. Carmella telling him off at the end of season 1 is one of the most satisfying moments in the series and she was spot on.
Carmella has multiple “come to Jesus” moments throughout the series, and I think the most effective ones are with the African priest and the Jewish therapist.
And I’m very sorry that I don’t remember their names, both only appear in one scene a piece if I remember correctly, but it says alot about how great those scenes are, that I find them much more effective in Carmella’s character development than literally every fuckin scene with Father Phil combined |
SomeCallMeTim
10.30.23 | Sil's provolone quote is probably my favorite line in the whole series

10.30.23 | "We have Tony ending things with Gloria, who I always found to be one of the most interesting and tragic characters in the entire series."
I agree with this a lot, I always found her fascinating and especially how she impacts Tony before and after dying. such a great show, one of the best of all time |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.30.23 | The scene where he confronts Melfi about it in Season 4 is fucking incredible.
“How’s Gloria Trillo? She still hangin’ around?”
Pretty sure it’s “Everybody Hurts”, Artie tries to kill himself in that one too.
Honestly it’s insane how much impact she had on the series and she’s only in like five episodes. |
kkarron
10.30.23 | I still maintain that Sopranos was a comedy show first and foremost. It's more consistently funny than consistently engaging dramatically. |
SomeCallMeTim
10.30.23 | seasons 1-3 hard agree. It's insane how much less humor there is at the start of season 4 |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.30.23 | yeah, and then Season 6b is just the most bleak shit ever. Even the color grading is darker. |
SomeCallMeTim
10.30.23 | yeah absolutely. The end of the show is so depressing to watch, like you mentioned the colors are largely darker and greyer, and nothing's going right for anyone or the family as a whole
6b did give us that moment where Phil is shouting at Tony from his bedroom window and those 5 seconds are hilarious |

10.30.23 | @wild
Yeah I have the underside of my forearm with pinebarrems and the last scene with Tony and the jukebox in holstens on the other side with the ducks flying behind him the the 3 fish from Tony's fever dre going up the inside on my forearm. Shit fking hurt.
I'll try get some pics up think is Chrissy doesn't look that great when it photographed for some reason. No idea why it looks spot on it just doesn't photograph well.
I flew from UK to NJ for the first ever sopranos convention around 2018 was so fking dope. Was a bit of a mess so security was kinda lose so I just went 'bacostage' and got pissed with Eugene and Gigi and shit. Got on with Eugene (Robert obvs) cos we were both mad gamblers. Little Charmaine too. I was actually stood on the side of the stage as Junior was singing and fury was in the front applauding haha was so mad. Don't think it would happen that oax again but it was 3 fans who made it all happen and a few teething problems. Best part was talking to Gandolfinis sister and wife. Some knew who they were some didn't, they were just there , didn't really wanna go over but they were so fking nice man, sat with them for like 15 mins really cool. |
Deez
10.30.23 | Fun side note. I saw Lita Gandolfinis FB once on a Jeff marketi post like a month after sopranos con so I thought fk it and sent her a message just to say how awesome it was to like meet the real family, ya know all the actors are paid to be their etc but for them to he so cool and that, and to just have crossed over his life for a breif second with mine meant a lot. She sent a message back thanking me blah blah but anyway I was in Portugal like a month later and the phone rings and it's fucking Lita Gandolfini!! Like on messenger and get this...I didn't fucking answer
Ahhhhh I just though 'nahh she can't he ringing me she must have pressed call by mistake surely'

10.30.23 | post season 3 also gave us little carmine |

10.30.23 | I get what you lot mean by the turn towards darkness, but to me, coming off the earlier season, it just reads as dark comedy. Chris' death, him pleading because he was high while driving, that almost read as a comedic moment. A darker version of, to get inspiration from your screen name, Charlie drinking paint in IASIP. Like, of fucking course he did. Or Tony waddling to Bobby and Janice's room in the night to put some weirdly hilarious masculine dot on the fight earlier. But then again, I thought Tony was a horrid person from the pilot, so I don't know, I must've been the top of my fucking class. |

I don’t really use reddit, but I’d highly recommend looking at their rewatch threads after each episode. Those guys have seen this show way too much and know every little detail. There’s so much under the surface you miss on a first watch.
To me, that’s what makes it a better show than something like Breaking Bad or the Shield. Yeah, they’re great television. But I don’t feel the need to watch either again. Sopranos has so much rewatchability (I don’t think that’s a word but you get what I mean) |
DominionMM1
10.31.23 | “How many times have you watched the fuckin show? I just finished number 5.“
i’ve probably watched the entire series 3 times. I’ve probably seen the first 3 seasons about twice that though. I generally just watch clips on YouTube. |
onionbubs
10.31.23 | ive seen sopranos like 5 times and they were consecutive lmao. every time it got better
and yeah brba has like no rewatch value bc its biggest appeal is the high impact b i g moments that dont really hit with the same force when you already know they're coming lol |
DominionMM1
10.31.23 | also you’re spot on in terms of rewatchability (yes it’s a word as far as I’m concerned) with sopranos compared to a show like breaking bad. |
SomeCallMeTim
10.31.23 | had the same dilemma between the two lol, rewatched breaking bad and it didn't hit that well the second time, rewatched sopranos twice and already excited for a third rewatch |
DominionMM1
10.31.23 | the issue with rewatching bb is that its a plot driven show that at times relies heavily on big twists and turns so once you know when and where theyre coming, some of the flaws can be seen |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.31.23 | I will say that Better Call Saul is much better in that regard. I like Breaking Bad a lot, and El Camino is great, but I think BCS is pretty easily the best thing Gilligan ever did.
I honestly think it can be talked about in the same breath as The Sopranos, The Leftovers, and Hannibal. But that’s just my personal top 3. |
onionbubs
10.31.23 | yeah better call saul is the peak of that universe for sure |
DominionMM1
10.31.23 | i’m gonna stan for mad men here. i know a lot of people didn’t dig it because there aren’t big twists and there arent a lot of life or death consequences but it’s absolutely perfect in terms of character development |

Mad men I only got half way through I need to carry on.
Did you watch Boardwalk Empire Wild?
Recently did a rewatch forgot how good it was.
Obviously Terence Winter too |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.31.23 | I’ve heard such mixed things about Boardwalk Empire. I probably will eventually. Mad Men is definitely the big one I’m missing out on especially considering it’s got a pretty prominent Sopranos writer at the helm.
Mr Robot I really gotta get on to as well. I watched the first season years ago but I was just a horrible drunk and didn’t understand any of it. I’ll have to give it another shot.
Underrated show everyone should I watch that I think is just about as good as anything else mentioned: Mr. Inbetween. Aussie crime show written and starring a guy named Scott Ryan. Every episode is directed by Nash Edgerton. To me, having your core team being that small leads to a way tighter series.
Everything about it is incredible. First season is basically a comedy but it descends into some really dark and heavy places in its second and third seasons without losing that jet black sense of humor. People compare it to Barry sometimes but they really aren’t that similar after the first season of each. Barry got all absurdist and surreal, Mr. Inbetween kinda stays pretty grounded for most of the show. It’s streaming on Hulu or wherever y’all get FX.
Love em both but for different reasons.
And everyone should watch Atlanta too. I know that’s not like an unpopular pick or anything but that show is insanely good. |

@wild The amount of people ppl that bailed on Mr robot is incredible I've convinced so many to crack on with it as it's worth and everyone has been 'Hollllly shit thanks' when they finished.

My biggest take-away from this first season is holy shit, Vince Gilligan was obsessed with this show when making Breaking Bad. There are SO many parallels and nods it's actually crazy. Like, even the Georgia O'Keeffe reference. It's kind of surreal watching this after growing up with BB and now seeing where a lot of the inspiration came from. Onto Season 2 |

It’s a really good sign that a show is great when I think that half the episodes in the entire series could legitimately be in the conversation as a top ten episode.
I wouldn’t even say the show is overrated either. Not only would modern television just be completely different without the Sopranos, it’s *still* better than 99% of the shows that it inspired. |

Wildcardbitchesss
12.26.23 | One of the best scenes of the entire series. I almost tear up just thinking about it.

Wildcardbitchesss
12.26.23 | Tony didn’t give a shit about Livia being gone, he even admitted to Melfi that it literally benefits him because she could’ve testified about the whole airline fiasco.
Tony’s crying for the mother he never had. And with zero dialogue James can convey all of those emotions rattling around in his head. Just perfect. |
Wildcardbitchesss
12.26.23 | Another thing that shows how great this show was. I mentioned Christopher’s speech, and how it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen on television.
Then you have the ending to the episode. No other show has been able to balance comedy and tragedy like the Sopranos. |

12.26.23 | yeah but the specific part I never picked up on is how the pillow that we see the mother fluffing is a throwback to the ending of season 1 and I assume that that is what Tony is being reminded of |

01.04.24 | fuck man I wanna watch it again
General consensus on Many Saints? I thought it was trash tbh. The acting and casting were perfect but the story was just dogshit. Dickie was the only remotely interesting character. And the ending twist of who had him whacked ruined a pretty good storyline. That we’re not sure if the cop killed Dickie. It’s just what Tony told Chris. And Chris even admitted that it didn’t matter if he killed Dickie anyways because he has to follow orders
But nope, fuck that. It was June. He did it because his hotter brother is more popular than him and Dickie laughed when he fell. Such a fucking stupid way to resolve that plot line.
The way the show ends you’d think the movie would end in some way that’s interesting or unconventional, but nope. God that June twist is fucking stupid. |
DominionMM1
01.04.24 | couldn’t bring myself to watch it and probably never will. the show was perfect and any additional baggage would likely bring it down in my eyes. |
SomeCallMeTim
01.04.24 | wouldn't call it trash or didn't hate it as much as others seemed to, but it definitely wasn't a worthy successor to the Sopranos and yeah I 10000% agree Dickie's fate and who was responsible was incredibly dumb. |
SomeCallMeTim
01.04.24 | Also I know its been said on this site 1000 times but its wild how little return value Breaking Bad has in comparison to Sopranos. BB used to be my favorite show and is still one of them I'd say, but I never been drawn to rewatching it more than once |
Wildcardbitchesss
01.04.24 | Same. Show was fun the first time. There’s just no depth. The Sopranos? I’ll find something new every rewatch. There’s a lot more to digest.

01.24.24 | just finished Deadwood and I gotta say, I think it’s a little overrated. I’d say it’s about as good as The Wire but neither match up to The Sopranos for me. Still haven’t watched the movie.
S Tier - The Sopranos, The Leftovers, Hannibal, True Detective S1, Fargo S2, Mr. Inbetween, Atlanta, Better Call Saul, Fleabag.
A - The Wire, Deadwood, Band of Brothers, It’s Always Sunny, Watchmen, Barry, Fargo S1 & 3, Twin Peaks (haven’t seen Season 3 yet). If The Last of Us can stay consistent it’ll probably end up here too.
B - The Shield, The Americans, Curb, Breaking Bad,
Community, Justified, Certain episodes of Black Mirror. If The Boys finishes strongly I could see myself bumping it up to A, but it already felt like it was heading toward some kind of endgame in Season 3 and they’ve already announced that there’s going to be at least 2 more seasons, so who the fuck knows.
C - Game of Thrones, Dexter, idk other shows that were great but took a nosedive in quality at some point. Sons of Anarchy is schlock but it’s entertaining schlock. Certain episodes of The Walking Dead, which is truly an insane show when you think about it. I have no problem saying that The Walking Dead can truly be fucking prestige television at times, but for every great episode you have another 3 or 4 that aren’t just slow, but are completely uninteresting. |

The fan callbacks were fucking dumb for the most part. I think June mentioned something about Tony not being good enough for varsity? Yeah it was funny in the show, think of some other shit for us to laugh at. It’s a shame they butchered it so badly because I think Alessandro Nivola was damn good as Dickie, they just gave him jack shit to work with.
Movie isn’t canon in my eyes. Making June the one that has him killed is colossally fucking stupid. It’s not completely out of character for Junior to do something like that over something so small but Junior is just a joke the entire movie without any of the depth he had in the show. Dickie’s death is a huge deal that has major consequences for Chrissy and Tony in the show but it’s just treated like an afterthought. |
Sharenge
04.01.24 | uhh it did have major consequences though... the movie basically frames the event as the critical crossroads for Tony where he vows to follow in his family's footsteps and get involved with the mob (presumably hopes to get revenge)... the irony and tragedy being that right before he dies, Dickie resolves himself to do everything in his power to make sure Tony DOESN'T get involved in that life (I mean, honestly/arguably a futile endeavor, but still) |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.01.24 | I didn’t word that well, yes it has major consequences for both characters, but it feels like the death itself had no build up whatsoever. It would’ve been a lot more satisfying imo if Harold ended up being the one to kill Dickie. Instead, it now feels like that character was just created as a huge misdirect only to have a cheap twist involving June. Like, take Harold out of the film completely and almost nothing changes aside from the shit with Giuseppina, which didn’t end up amounting to much anyways. |
Sharenge
04.01.24 | I try to glean whatever positive qualities there are about the film and focus on that because of the overwhelming hate. I mean it's warranted - the film was a disappointment... but it kind of makes it underrated (despite the fact that even when I'm being generous, it can still only barely be viewed as 'good')... time has helped, I think I've grown a little warmer towards it since it first dropped, though I don't know how far that can go
probably repeating myself there
in terms of all the plot stuff you bring up, I thing I've come around to a lot of it... I mean I feel all your points and probably felt the same way and agreed in regards to all of them especially after initially viewing the movie
I think it's all just supposed to be showing this fucked up world and fucked up life and fucked up people and the mess and tragedy and irony of it all even when it comes to your own family and I can relate to that... I really liked how between the show and the movie we see all these little facets of these people's lives where the truth just gets fucking buried and washed away and twisted and distorted and fucking lost and sometimes the ramifications on character's lives can be huge
I kind of feel like they wanted to continue this story and how it would go would be, as always, the blacks would be the scapegoat and Harold be the one who gets blamed for Dickie's death (iirc he did want to take Dickie out, but in the end had absolutely nothing to do with his murder)... Tony would go down the path we know he goes down and probably at some point exact revenge on Harold (potentially being the first time he murders somebody)(and never knowing that it was Junior who actually had Dickie killed and also never knowing what was truly in Dickie's heart at the end)
but yeah I liked the guy who did Dickie a lot too... fucked up story you can kind of view it that he cursed his family (kills his dad (that bird was in there flappin' around), bangs his (step)mom, gets cucked and kills her too... like bro just made the curse worse every step of the way lol dude's shit is triplehexxed) |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.02.24 | I’ll talk about how good the cast was all day. Sil’s actor hammed it up a little too much but everyone else was perfect. And Vera Farmiga… god what a brilliant choice to play Livia. And this isn’t an original take but I wholly believe in it, she looks like Carmella too a little imo, really drives the Freudian thing home for me. Michael did a very good job as a young Tony too. Ray Liotta was really damn good in the double role too. I thought he was really overreacting as Hollywood Dick but that worked as a great contrast for the more subdued twin brother character, which is a reveal that would’ve felt very stupid if he weren’t so good.
But man almost everything plot related did absolutely nothing for me. That all felt underwritten meanwhile every scene feels like a vignette of seeing how many fan service moments we can fit in it.
There is a decent movie buried in there for sure, but god it feels like for every good idea they had they threw in two bad ones |

04.02.24 | Chris growing up his whole life believing his father was a junkie because when Tony was a kid, he asked Dickie to try and talk to his mom about trying the medicine advertised in the pamphlet so maybe she wouldn't be so unhappy and miserable, and because he dies with the pamphlet in his pocket it creates a rumor that has decades to take root and grow that Dickie was some sort of druggie (plus there's also the fact that if Dickie didn't want Tony involved in the life, he certainly wouldn't have wanted it for his own son)(ironically, Tony might be the person most responsible for drawing Chris into that world)... just fuck my shit up |

04.12.24 | finished the series. great show. really good writing, amazing acting. I found a lot of the characters hard to root for though. I know that’s intentional but I would have liked for them to become at least somewhat redeemable |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.12.24 | Alright Colton time for step two: start the rewatch lol
As far as characters that I rooted for, Bobby is the easy pick, as is Adriana. I was really rooting for Johnny Sack too. Little Carmine is an adorable fucking idiot too, love that guy.
By the end I was really pulling for AJ and Meadow but it seems they’re doomed to repeat the mistakes of their parents. |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.12.24 | Oh, and as much as a fucking hypocrite she can be, I absolutely loved Rosalie. Definitely the smartest of the mob wives. That brutal piece of advice she gave to Carmella regarding AJ while Tony was in the coma is one of my favorite moments in the series. |
Colton
04.12.24 | Bobby was easy to root for for a while and them they have him murder someone in cold blood, guess it proves there’s no good guys in the group |
nol
04.12.24 | I rooted for Adrianna |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.12.24 | Tony was so fucking petty for that. One of the worst things he ever did in the series, and that’s a high fucking bar to clear. |
nol
04.12.24 | but she flew too close to the sun, shoulda ditched Chris way earlier that was her downfall |

Wildcardbitchesss
04.12.24 | Carmellaaaaaa tho |

04.12.24 | Those three and Chrissy are by far the most interesting of the main cast imo |
Winesburgohio
04.13.24 | I know I've "observed" in the past that the show doesn't necessarily make me *feel* but Stage 5 ruins me man fuck |
Winesburgohio
04.13.24 | and actually Kaisha, to a lesser extent, which I know isn't a particularly popular episode but really gets addiction right |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.13.24 | man there’s probably 20 scenes that get me misty eyed and probably another 5 that bring full blown waterworks. It nails addiction, depression, suicide etc. you have to wonder what kind of mental hell some of these writers have been through to nail this shit so well.
“You ever feel like nothin good was ever gonna happen to you?”
“Yeah, and nothin did. So what?” |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.13.24 | I think that’s why it won’t ever be topped. No show has characters that feel this fucking real.
You hate them because they’re pieces of shit, every single person in this show is deplorable. But you see why they are the way that they are and it forces you to empathize with them. I can’t think of another show that does that as flawlessly as this one.
I think, in my heart of hearts, the Leftovers is the single greatest piece of media ever created. But nothing makes me *feel* like the Sopranos does |
Winesburgohio
04.14.24 | an opinion: I've seen it written that Adriana's death marked a turning point because she's an "innocent", but framed in those terms the biggest innocent on the show is Christopher |
Colton
04.14.24 | how is chris innocent in any way |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.14.24 | I could see the argument that he literally had no chance from the start. Gangster father gets gunned down when he’s an infant, he almost immediately becomes Tony’s protege. There was no alternative path for him aside from the movie business, which we know he could absolutely not make it in.
Or he could’ve gotten into modeling and been a success, too bad he hated *those* kinds of people |
Colton
04.14.24 | chris was given chances and threw them all away |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.14.24 | oh 100%, I’m just saying that I can definitely see the argument |
nol
04.14.24 | the fact that people can rationalize Chris’s behavior as innocent is part of what makes this show so good. They do an unbelievable job of humanizing terrible people. |
nol
04.14.24 | Best live action show OAT for sure |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.14.24 | The fact that people can rationalize anyone’s behavior is what makes it the GOAT.
By the end of season 6 literally everyone in the main cast is a complete piece of shit or, in AJ and Meadow’s case, well on their way to becoming one. |
nol
04.14.24 | I gotta admit I never finished season 6 cuz I didn’t particularly care for season 5 and it seemed way too detached/far removed from the original idea of the series. Seasons 1-4 are absolutely amazing though. |
Sharenge
04.14.24 | only thing separating them from us is fuckin' whackin' somebody |
Winesburgohio
04.14.24 | i mean of course he did despicable things but his arc really feels like the show at its most fatalistic - there was no means available to him to be anything else, or to do anything else, because he couldn't even *conceive* of anything else (well, outside of a fantasy that even his dimmer wit wouldn't countenance as genuine possibility). the drugs and alcohol are an undercurrent of the toll it all took on his psyche
and it is quite right that it's an indicator of how good the show it that we can have these discussions all these years later about pretty serious questions |
nol
04.14.24 | that’s uhhh a pretty big difference |
nol
04.14.24 | To me, the drugs Chris did were more a result of his friends from the first season, than a reaction to the business. |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.14.24 | my brother in Christ you have to watch season 6 lmao
I’ll admit, I think Part 1 is probably the weakest stretch of episodes in the series. But the back half? Best television I’ve ever seen. Every episode is a motherfucking masterpiece |

04.21.24 | i think [spoilers obvi] Eugene's suicide is the most brutal, utterly horrible thing i've ever seen on television. very effective way of unromanticising it. i try not to skip forward in anything i rewatch but the past couple of times i've come very close |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.21.24 | Melfi’s r@pe for me. I can handle suicide, I can handle violence against women… I can’t handle that level of brutality against a woman, especially someone who is actually a decent person and a character that I really love. But I don’t ever skip it because it leads to what may legitimately be my favorite moment in the series. I break down every time along with Melfi in that therapy scene. She wants to tell Tony so badly, but all we get is the “No” and a hard cut to black. Just fucking perfect.
It’s damn near impossible to steal a scene from Gandolfini, but she managed to do it. God I love Lorraine. |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.21.24 | The scene is proof that Tony isn’t a complete sociopath. I think, when it all comes down to it, Tony would do anything for Carmella, his kids, and Melfi. I don’t think that attitude extends to anyone else, but he does truly care for them. Is selective sociopathy a thing? |
jrlikestodance
04.21.24 | Love the picks and care taken in this list. Finished my 3rd watch of The Sopranos last month and it's still the greatest of all time. Great to see so many season 6 choices as I gained a new appreciation for it this time around. |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.21.24 | thank you! I wanted to say so much more but the sput limit wouldn’t let me. Maybe for the best, I could go on about this fucking show for hours.
And yeah, I’ll say season 6 part 1 may be the weakest batch of episodes in the entire series, but damn 6 part 2 really came out swinging and didn’t let you go until the very end. One of the best seasons of television of all time for sure. |
Winesburgohio
04.21.24 | ya that scene is rough and the episode as a whole v. moving. i used to think - and sort of still do - that violence against women is so rote in the show it loses meaning or shock (I suppose this becomes especially true when one binges it, which isn't should be how it's consumed maybe) - but I've removed that from my list of examples. and the whole "Tony is a sociopath" take has never made sense to me or interested me. if he is the whole show loses so much complexity and so much character nuance. i think the show makes it clear it's a choice. "One thing you can never say-that you haven't been told" is a propos here. |
Winesburgohio
04.21.24 | man 6b is almost like a different show, or a particularly brilliant spinoff. it almost defamiliarises the viewer from what came before while relying heavily on that context in a way that's quite brilliant. even the shots of the soprano home enforce this suffocating sense of space that wasn't present before. idk |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.21.24 | no you’re absolutely right. I doubt Chase and co. had that planned from the start but I totally get what you’re saying. To me, Season 6b is only outdone by Season 3 of The Leftovers.
imo, both stand head and shoulders above anything else on television. They’re both just so perfect it almost feels unfair to compare it to other television. |
Wildcardbitchesss
04.21.24 | Like, I still have kids at my work that are obsessed with Breaking Bad. I’m not busting balls, BrBa is definitely one of the goats, but as you grow older… I really think the sopranos is just a much better series in almost all aspects. It’s about us. Even if we’re following a bunch of mobsters, it’s about the human condition, empathy, it just all runs so much deeper than almost anything in all of media, and yes that includes film and whatever novel someone will end up telling me to read. |

The depression and hallucination thing was cool, but the “action” scenes of the show like this and Richie’s death with the ghost hand holding the chair back are pretty fucking laughable for a show as highly regarded as this. really took me out of the immersion at points, still a great show and yea college should definitely be included here |

10.09.24 | Tonys whole thing with Chrissy is the worst. His 'nephew' who hes always been close with calls his blood, and ends him for being a liability when everytime hes tried to get clean Tony would give him shit for being a wetwipe, only to then tell him to get clean again, The baby seat in the back is just an excuse for him to get rid of a massive headache and claim some moral ground in his own head because hes an eternal victim. 10.14.24 | On my god knows which rewatch, it’s absolutely wild that I haven’t seen From Where to Eternity mentioned at all, even me.
Just a fucking masterclass, damn near perfect hour of television. Drea de Matteo acted her fucking ass off when Chrissy dies, damn near brought me to tears. Paulie seeing the psychic also confirmed without a doubt that there’s supernatural shit going on. I used to think Tony seeing Pussy in the mirror at Livia’s wake was my biggest piece of evidence for that, but how could the the psychic know all of that about Paulie? Chrissy going to “hell”… I’m not religious but it legitimately fucking terrifies me.
More than a couple of scenes in this episode are among the best in the series. |
Flashmobba
10.14.24 | whatchu guys think of The Wire? I think it’s easily HBO’s greatest show and clears this one easily |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.14.24 | nah not for me. Sopranos is consistently more entertaining, more thought provoking, better shot, acted, just more well made in general.
And the last season of the Wire drops off a cliff, Sopranos stayed consistently incredible.
I don’t really feel like I need to watch The Wire again, not so with the Sopranos. It’s a good show but I think people overhype it big time. In comparison with The Sopranos I also feel the characters are much more shallow. The kids in season 4, and the dock workers in season 2 are really the only ones that measure up to even B tier characters in Sopranos. Them and the relationship between String and Avon, and Omar I guess too.
McNulty is not interesting, Bunk was kind of fun, the rest of the cops are one dimensional as hell. The most depth they gave Rawls was randomly making him gay in the later seasons, other than that he’s a basic ass “tough guy” police captain.
So yeah, I’ll take Sopranos over the Wire and day of the week and twice on Sundays. It’s not even a top 5 HBO show imo |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.14.24 | Still a good show, but nowhere near the GOAT status that people make it out to be. |
HooperD87
10.14.24 | How many times you watched the Wire Wildcard? I genuinely liked it so much more second time round. Granted, I was like 19 and stoned out of my mind when watching the first time so missed heaaaaps of detail. Still, after my second watch, I truly thought it was better than the sopranos, which I had slated as the best show ever for years. |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.14.24 | Twice, and like I said I don’t really feel like I need to watch it again.
And again, I don’t hate the show at all or anything, I just think that it’s massively overhyped. Both Sopranos and The Wire were massively influential but I think The Sopranos is far better.
Which is kind of ironic because politics-wise, I very much agree with most of the themes and messaging in The Wire. And while I wouldn’t call The Sopranos apolitical, it’s definitely not at the forefront as much as a show like the Wire.
And honestly depending on the day, I will say The Leftovers or The Sopranos is my favorite show. I flip flop between them a lot. They’re honestly both just as close to perfect as it gets and there isn’t another series that I would put at that tier. |
Wildcardbitchesss
10.14.24 | Spoilers for The Wire I guess, tho I can’t imagine anyone ITT hasn’t seen it, but String was always my favorite character, and pivoting to the kids in season 4 was a stroke of genius. Season 5 is just where it all falls apart for me. Not to a catastrophic degree, like with Game of Thrones, but it’s such massive step down and by that point in the show I really didn’t like any of the characters left aside from Omar, Bodie, and Bubbles. I liked Daniels too I guess but I think that just comes down to me being really fond of Lance Reddick.
It’s just after Stringer’s death, and Avon getting sidelined, I found the criminal side of things to be way less interesting. I never found Marlo to be all that intriguing, honestly I thought Snoop and Chris were way more interesting than Marlo, who I guess is the main “bad guy” in the last couple of seasons. |
kkarron
10.14.24 | The Wire wasn't about the characters, though, it was about systems. The characters were essentially disposable, they didn't really matter outside of their service (or rebellion) to the system. |

That scene with Gloria, Jesus Christ. I already mentioned she’s one of the best minor characters but that whole scene is fucking tremendous.
“I don’t have any children… I died too young.”
Really one of the best scenes in the entire series. And seeing all the characters we lost along the way feels really organic and not like fan service at all. I think Funhouse is probably the better “dream” episode overall, but The Test Dream is such an insane idea for an episode and it’s incredible that they pulled it off. |
Sharenge
11.13.24 | yeah both of those are easy favs for me as well, and I remember really loving "The Test Dream" the first time I watched the series way back when

11.13.24 | Yeah I am kinda starting to feel that. It’s just like, any time I go to start a new show I’ll get like three episodes in and just be like “eh fuck it I’d rather just watch the sopranos again”

If I ranked all of them it’d probably land like around #30.
Still great, but nowhere near the show’s best imo” |
Wildcardbitchesss
11.13.24 | @sharenge
Yeah I think I mentioned something like that a long ass time ago. Something like, it’s not really fair to rank some of these episodes because the first episodes of any given season, while still being incredible, set the groundwork for even better episodes later on.
Still, there’s a few that break through that trend, College tends to be a lot of people’s favorite S1 episode. Soprano Home Movies, if we’re counting season 6 as basically two separate seasons, nearly made my top 10 and honestly after this watch it my opinion of it might grow.
And honestly, I made the list as less of a “THESE ARE THE DEFINITIVE EPISODES OF THE SOPRANOS” and more of a place to talk about what is probably my favorite series. I like the community here and it was cool to see so many people’s thoughts on it. |

07.12.25 | Just finished my third or fourth re-watch and honestly, the more I watch, the more I think Chris is one of the least sympathy-worthy characters in the show. Very judgy of me I know, but he is a complete asshole with barely any redeeming qualities. When Tony finishes him off, the only emotion I feel is, "Good - no great loss". |
Wildcardbitchesss
07.12.25 | Exact opposite for me. I hated him my first watch mostly for literally everything with Adriana, but now I just feel sorry for him. He never really had a chance. Father (who might’ve tried to steer him clear of the mob life) gets clapped when he’s an infant so basically he gets groomed into it by Tony, mom is a complete alcoholic on top of it… the guy never had a chance. Obv they’re all adults and they’re all capable of making their own decisions, but Chris is still a very tragic character imo |
Hyperion1001
07.12.25 | my wife and I tried to watch it recently and couldn’t finish it. tapped out in the middle of season 5.
every character is an insufferably bad person with no redeeming qualities besides maybe meadow. there’s no character development whatsoever; the characters at the beginning of season one are unchanged well into season 5. the writing creates plot threads and just drops them with no resolution or sense of closure.
neither of us could understand why the show is as lauded as it is. |
ToSmokMuzyki

07.12.25 | well I thought that eventually something would happen, and by then i realized that nothing was coming and gave up.
plus I’ve been hearing about how it’s the best TV show of all time for years so I wanted to stick out and try to see what the fuss was about. unfortunately I couldn’t make it. |
jrlikestodance
07.12.25 | I feel like part of the appeal of The Sopranos is despite the characters all being inherently awful, the writing and character development keeps you coming back for more and wanting to see how the characters end up. I also think the lack of change in some characters is representative of mob life/Italian-American families of earlier times. Mad traumatic events consistently happen in your life but you remain unaffected and keep it moving for the family |
Hyperion1001
07.12.25 | I didn’t “hate” it. the first couple of seasons had me entertained. but I just felt like nothing of consequence had happened in 2+ seasons and I was starting to uncontrollably hate every character to the point where I just couldn’t stick it out. |
Wildcardbitchesss
07.12.25 | Yeah I get wanting more out of it in terms of having some kind of sympathetic character you can latch onto, but to say it doesn’t have character development… nah lol
They’re all completely different people if you look at them from season 1 to 6, just because none of them get out of the life or become better people doesn’t mean there wasn’t development. |
Wildcardbitchesss
07.12.25 | And tbh I always thought it was impressive that I felt sympathy for these characters in spite of all the horrible shit they do. Chrissy is a certified complete piece of shit but I still feel sorry for him. |
jrlikestodance
07.12.25 | I also do feel some sympathy for Chris despite him being terrible lol. This thread being bumped is making me wanna rewatch once this cold passes through |
Hyperion1001
07.12.25 | the show kind of exemplifies why I think television is a uniquely bad medium for storytelling because it inherently rejects the natural rhythm of narratives. it takes the structure of rising action and falling action and undulates it over an extended period of time, usually well beyond when the story should have had a resolution and conclusion just to artificially inflate the episode count.
which is probably all the TV shows I actually like are usually maximum 1 season or episodic in nature with an entire plot arc each episode. |
Wildcardbitchesss
07.12.25 | I get what you’re saying… but idk man The Sopranos is like the least guilty series of that like ever. I’d say out of the 88 episodes at least 60 of them have self contained stories it’s just the character development that carries over from episode to episode.
I dunno man, how long has it been since you tried to watch it? I’d say give it another shot, because I remember putting off the show for so long because it was old and I didn’t think it would ever live up to the hype… but then ended up possibly being my favorite story told in any medium. Books, movies, television, games, whatever. Sopranos is elite.
Tony Soprano is the greatest character ever written and I’ll say that with my chest. James Gandolfini was a god. |
markjamie
07.13.25 | The more I watch it, the more I realise Chris is only ever concerned with how things affect himself - it's all about him. And okay, maybe a common trait in the world explored by The Sopranos, but only Paulie really rivals him in terms of sociopathic tendencies (or ASPD). Can anyone name an occasion when Chris was genuinely empathetic or concerned about someone else? I can't think of one. Even Ralphie seemed to genuinely love his son at least. Chris is just a cunt (even if there are reasons for him being like this). I can feel sympathy for the situation he found himself in, but the rewatches have exposed his awfulness in a way I missed (or maybe attempted to justify?) first time around. |
