| Accept Albums: Worst to First
You already know | 16 | | Accept Death Row
Utter fucking garbage. If there is anything worse than a metal band selling out and writing pop tunes, it's metal bands thinking that downtuning their guitars and decreasing the tempo constitutes “getting heavier”. You didn’t “get heavier”, you got shittier. When they decide to play something mildly uptempo the album almost manages to be enjoyable, but it really isn’t worth sitting through an hour of poorly produced pseudo-groove metal. Hard pass on this one.
Best Track: Bad Religion
Grade: F | 15 | | Accept Too Mean to Die
What a monumental disappointment. I can’t say the material on here is “bad”, but it sure as hell is the most uninspired collection of songs the boys have ever released. The cracks were starting to show on Rise of Chaos, but that album still managed to be a banger regardless. This is the sound of a band that simply has nothing left to offer us; which is a fucking shame, because post-Udo Accept fucking ruled up to this point…
Best Track: Symphony of Pain
Grade: D- | 14 | | Accept Accept
The debut is merely Accept-able. Get it?
Lady Lou is a banger though, and you get the odd moments of Udo’s clean vocals, which is kind of cool I guess. Can’t really recommend the album as a whole, but there are a few choice cuts on here worth giving a listen.
Best Track: Lady Lou
Grade: D | 13 | | Accept I'm a Rebel
I’m a Rebel
A noted improvement over the debut, but still pretty underwhelming. I don’t think anyone could have guessed just how much of an improvement the follow-up would be.
Best Track: The King
Grade: D+ | 12 | | Accept Predator
Most people think this is their worst album, but I personally think it's underrated. Lots of filler, but the highlights are actually lots of fun. Surprisingly, the best tracks on the album actually feature longtime bassist Peter Baltes on vocals. Definitely a step above Death Row in every regard.
Best Track: Lay It Down
Grade: D+ | 11 | | Accept Objection Overruled
Not quite the comeback we hoped for, but still solid regardless. Some all-time greats like the title track and “Amamos La Vida” are nestled amongst a healthy dose of filler. A solid recommendation for Accept fans, but probably won't impress the casual listener.
Best Track: All or Nothing
Grade: C- | 10 | | Accept Eat the Heat
Alright, I’m gonna come clean; I really like this album. I will always have a soft spot for sellout records, and this is no exception. It doesn’t really sound like Accept, but the riffs are memorable, hooks are catchy, and the production is top notch. Sure, there are a few too many frilly ballads, but there are some fucking crushers on here like X-T-C and D-Train.
Best Track: D-Train
Grade: C+ | 9 | | Accept The Rise of Chaos
The 4th post-Udo album from the band is an obvious step down from the immortal trilogy that preceded it, but that by no means makes it a bad record. I think the biggest issue the album has is too many mid-tempo rockers and not enough speedy metal barnburners. With that being said, this is still a really solid entry in the Accept catalog, and is more reminiscent of their early-to-mid 80’s output.
Best Track: Analog Man
Grade: B- | 8 | | Accept Balls to the Wall
Uh oh, “Balls to the Wall” is in 8th place. This is kinda like Accept’s “British Steel” to me. It’s a rock solid record, but I do think the band has much better, more consistent releases under their belt (pun intended). The first half is absolutely fantastic, but the 2nd half feels kind of subdued in comparison. Good album, but not their best.
Best Track: London Leatherboys
Grade: B+ | 7 | | Accept Breaker
In my eyes, this is really where Accept found their identity. Speedy and aggressive metal mayhem, with iconic frontman Udo Dirkschnider screaming like a pissed off garden gnome from start to finish. I wanna put this higher, but the records above are just a smidge better in my eyes. Damn good, and highly recommended.
Best Track: Breaker
Grade: B+ | 6 | | Accept Blind Rage
It’s a known fact that every record subsequently released since their 2010 comeback has decreased in quality; but the dip in quality in the first three albums is so miniscule that it’s barely noticeable. “Blind Rage” is a fucking beast of a record and continues the success of “Blood of the Nations” and “Stalingrad” with vigor.
Best Track: Dark Side of My Heart
Grade: A- | 5 | | Accept Russian Roulette
The most underrated album Accept have ever released. On par with all of their 80’s releases, if not better in some aspects. For me, Russian Roulette is where Accept combined their aggressive attitude and melodic sensibilities the very best. Songs like “Monsterman”, “Aiming High”, “TV War” and the title track not only rip your nuts off, they also stick in your head thanks to the earworm choruses. My only gripe is that Man Enough to Cry should have been excluded entirely; because that song fucking sucks.
Best Track: Aiming High
Grade: A | 4 | | Accept Stalingrad
For me, this and Blood of the Nations are interchangeable, as both albums are absolutely incredible. Which album I’d consider the stronger release really depends on the mood I’m in at the time. If you’re in the mood for monster hooks and chunky riffs go with “Blood”, if you want unbridled speed and aggression, “Stalingrad” is the album for you.
Best Track: Flash to Bang Time
Grade: A+ | 3 | | Accept Blood of the Nations
Arguably the best comeback record in metal history.
Best Track:
Grade: A+ | 2 | | Accept Restless and Wild
Putting a masterpiece like this in second place makes me feel disgusting, but I had to do it.
Best Track: Demon’s Night
Grade: A+ | 1 | | Accept Metal Heart
One of my all-time favorite records in any genre. Absolute perfection.
Best Track: Midnight Mover

03.09.22 | Choosing any song on 14 other than Seawinds as 'best song' for it is criminal. That song is literally the only reason I was happy I owned the album in the pre-'everything on YouTube' era.
Also, as a casual listener, I can confirm not having been impressed by 13, a bargain-rack regular at my local record shop back in my teenage years, that I kept passing on for exactly that reason, despite thinking the cover was awesome. | rockarollacola
03.10.22 | Seawinds is definitely an oddity in their discography to say the least. Not really my thing, but I understand the appeal. | ToSmokMuzyki
03.10.22 | i just cant accept this | FR33L0RD
03.10.22 | Underrated/overlooked, great rock band with a large discography. I like your grade system, simple and effective. Bookmarked for ref. cheers. | Sabrutin
03.10.22 | 14 is definitely underrated I think, even if silly Take Him in My Heart is one of my most favorite songs of theirs
Not bad for a ranking tho. 5 and 7 are underappreciated for sure, especially the latter, Breaker t/t is peak Accept
My current top three would be 1, 2, 7 in an unknown order |
