03.29.21 | @ Ghandi
Yeah I think you’re right. I’m not that well versed in (folky) jazz, so I submitted it based on the rym genre tags. | rellik009

03.30.21 | You actually rec'd me that album way back, and I loved it:) Funny that you mention it btw, I finished an entire discog run of Beltaine just today. I also plan on making a similar list with celtic folk gems at some later time. In all probability that list is going to be subdivided in multiple entries, because its going to be massive. | budgie
03.30.21 | oh man that would be a cool list to check, i havent really been exposed to celtic style folk stuff outside of some random breton artists | budgie
03.30.21 | speaking of breton artists i see youve recently rated alan stivell. cool stuff | Elynna

Least perfect english I have written in a while | Elynna
06.17.21 | what sort of translate machine did you use? seems like something fun to play around with | budgie
06.17.21 | that shit sketches me out because 9 out of 10 people who are into "runes" are fat white supremacists who have a fetish for shooting guns at colored people in idaho | Elynna
06.17.21 | yep most of them are unfortunately. I took an academic interest in ancient runes during my BA in History when I was following an elective course in Norse mythology. It was a really interesting lecture and I still remember the teacher stressing the current misuse/abuse of runes in white supremacist and nazist circles. | budgie
06.17.21 | hey that's probably a pretty cool class. i took a "viking history" course at U aberdeen and saw they had a series on futhark language, but never took those classes. my interest in everything norse fell off pretty quickly when i realized how strongly associated the entire neo-germanism culture is to white supremacism and nazism, as you noted. what was the history BA about? | Elynna
06.17.21 | It was basically a BA in general history, where students have lots of freedom to pursue their own interests in the form of electives, seminars and minors. I'm currently following a research MA programme specifically focused on European history from 1000-1800. I've always been drawn to the cultural history of Renaissance Europe. | budgie
06.17.21 | that is a wildly long period to focus on! are you a master of the 100 years war, or like, the golden age of piracy, or the wars of the roses, or the american/french revolutions? i have this book, froissart's chronicles, that i've been hoping to get into soon, covering mid medieval period.. think it's written contemporary with the 100 years war. woop woop french knights such a neat topic ⚔ | Elynna
06.17.21 | haha, it is indeed a very extensive period to study, and it can seem overwhelming at first. But (once again) students are allowed to pursue after their own interests, even encouraged to do so. So suppose you are interested in the Wars of the Roses, then the programme offers you every opportunity to specialize in this subject by way of seminars and your thesis.
I can't say I'm a master of any of those histories you mentioned, although I did recently follow a course on Barbary corsairing activities and slaving practices in the medieval and early modern Mediterranean. My personal interest lies specifically in the cultural history of the early modern Italian city-states (most notably Florence and Venice, ca. 1500-1650). I'm particularly invested in gender, body politics, medical theory, gastronomy and discourse analysis. | rellik009
06.18.21 | "what sort of translate machine did you use? seems like something fun to play around with"
https://valhyr.com/pages/rune-converter | rellik009
06.18.21 | history homies unite | budgie
06.18.21 | what's body politics?
sup relik!!! history nerds 4ever | Elynna
06.19.21 | It's a difficult concept to explain, but scholars Nadia Brown and Sarah Allen Gershon summarized it pretty understandably as follows: 'Bodies are sites in which social constructions of differences are mapped onto human beings. Subjecting the body to systemic regimes – such as government regulation – is a method of ensuring that bodies will behave in socially and politically accepted manners'. | Sinternet
06.19.21 | great list, didn't see this before
can't help but find the lack of paavoharju an oversight though | Elynna
06.19.21 | never heard of that band, but I'll definitely be checking them out. Would it be best to start with their debut? |
|
