The Ocean ranked.

brings the crushing stuff
9The Ocean
Collective Oblivion

not ranked: As some of you might know, i'm a huge fan of dvd box-sets and this has to be one of the greatest i've seen so far. I mean literally, it has about ten hours of video material and not the boring kind (mostly). Watched it in one sitting and really felt a connection and learned something about their lives and about touring in general.
8The Ocean
Islands/Tides

don't bother with this unless you're a hardcore fan of the ocean. their demo has some good moments but they are scattered far between long minutes of boringness.

Best Tracks: Probably 'Islands II'
7The Ocean
Heliocentric

With three pretty boring and mellow songs on it, i can understand why some people dont like this album. I however dig it as it's diverse and still brings the riffs on some songs.

Best Tracks: Firmament, Metaphysics of the Hangman, The Origin of Species
6The Ocean
Aeolian

Probably their most one-dimensional record. this whole record is somewhat similiar to the first half of precambrian. the city in the sea's intro makes me bang my head every time i hear it.

Best Tracks: The City in The Sea (!), One with the Ocean, Swoon
5The Ocean
Fogdiver

An purely instrumental album that has to be experienced. This could be considered post metal since it builds up lush landscapes only to crush them after a few minutes. Huge improvement over their initial demo.

Best Tracks: Isla de la Luna, The Long Road to Nha Trang
4The Ocean
Anthropocentric

another rifffest with some of their most catchiest tunes like roots & locusts or she was the universe.

Best Tracks: The t/t, She Was The Universe, Roots & Locusts, Sewers of the Soul
3The Ocean
Fluxion

their first full lengh also is one of their most lush and diverse records to date.

Best Tracks: The Human Stain, Fluxion, Equinox, Death on the Whole, The Greatest Bane
2The Ocean
Pelagial

a decent into heaviness and a stunning concept release. this was my entry point to their discography.

Best Tracks: the whole experience, Into The Uncanny, Signals of Anxiety, Let Them Believe, Cognitive Dissonance
1The Ocean
Precambrian

undoubtably their best effort and a pillar in modern metal. first half is crushing as the forming of the earth while the second half is beautiful progressive metal at its finest.

Best tracks: the whole double album, Mesoarchaean, The whole second half...seriously!
