On January, 2010, Michael Gira begun working on new material for the band and it officially reformed with mostly the same line-up, excluding female vocalist Jarboe, who chose to work on her individual career. The band gained a great deal of recognition long after their disbanding-and-reformation, partly due to the unexpected popularity peak obtained with the release of 2012's The Seer. Despite the band members dismissing being or ever being a part of the metal scene, the band's broody, dark atmosphere has proven extremely influential to many extreme metal bands, and they are often seen a pioneers of several scenes, such as slow, depressing post-rock (which would later become much more popular in the hands of Godspeed You! Black Emperor). « hide
