Before The Dawn Deathstar Rising |
Yeah, it may be melodic death, but it sure has a punch to it. Melodies will remembered and have you hooked for a while, strong clean vocals, with death growls that aren't pathetic sounding, drums and bass aren't being overshadowed by the guitars, solos that are creative and not mindless shredding. Overall it's a great album.rRecommended songs: The First Snow - Winter Within, Deathstar, Judgement, Unbroken, The Butterfly Effect, and Wraith. |
Before The Dawn The Ghost |
Overall a great album. It has more Gothic metal tendencies more so then their claimed genre of melodic death metal. There's some nice solos here and there, though some parts in a lot of songs could've had a faster guitar solo instead of a slow one to put more an umph to the song itself. Don't get me wrong or anything, but the solos they do have fit perfectly in the songs, they're just more slow and melodic. The only down turn of this album is "Ghost Town" - it's some weird experimental gothic nu-metal song (vocal wise, not the instrumentation). |
Before The Dawn Soundscape Of Silence |
Simplistic (verse-chorus-verse), but catchy as hell. Both clean and harsh vocals are performed greatly done, that it brings in a Gothic metal atmosphere. The guitars have interesting melodies, with haunting acoustics, a bass that's audible, and drums with standout moments. Overall a fun release by a band that doesn't disappoint.
Recommended songs - Dying Sun, Exile, Silence, Fabrication, Dead Reflection, Savior.

Children of Bodom Are You Dead Yet? |
Children of Bodom Something Wild |
Children of Bodom Halo of Blood |
To be honest, I am completely surprised with the comeback Bodom made on this album. Bodom fans all around the world were crossing their fingers with little optimism and preparing for the worst to come. I remember when a lot of people (including myself) were lying to themselves saying "RRF is a comeback! Bodom is back baybuh!" that is until we [fans of Bodom] finally realized shortly after that Bodom crafted another shitty album even if it was better than Blooddrunk - it's still not saying much. There were too many elements to count that were missing in the song writing formula that made Bodom who they were back in the day. As well as too much alcohol, which probably played a significant role as to why the previous 2-3 albums sucked - we all know how creative we can be when we're impaired beyond recognition.
It's safe to say that Bodom is finally back on the right track to create another classic that can sit by Follow the Reaper. However, this Finnish entourage still has a long ways to go to craft an album that will put them on the right path to greater success. Halo of Blood is just the first of many steps of improvement. |

Shunning their recent power metal trends, and conservatively reroutes their efforts to make a classic heavy metal record in the same vein as their 1980s work is without a doubt a bold move. Thankfully it pulled through in the end for these hellish sounding power metallers. |

Judas Priest Turbo |
Fundamentally, the album is a love or hate experiment [for the fans] that pays homage to the then rising Glam metal scene. But is that a legitimate reason why we should hate Turbo? Priest just came off of a career high with Screaming For Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith so there's no doubt there's a spillover effect in play with the song writing. Yes, they do use synths, but they don't over play it as it has been portrayed. Songs like Locked In, Reckless, and Hot for Love along with many others are upbeat in their own right with some spectacular solos from their famous axe duo as well as soaring vocals from Rob Halford.
In conclusion, the album itself has been portrayed as total shit which in itself is an extreme understatement, and many fans are missing out on some of Priest's best moments from the '80s despite the cheesiness of it all.
Also, lol people think Glenn and K.K. are using keyboards! I guess people don't know the difference between guitar affects and real keyboards, and if that's the case then Buckethead is a master pianist. |

Nightrage Descent Into Chaos |
Well, unfortantely Gus G. and Tomas left, technically on a bad note after this release.... In comparison to Sweet Vengeance is what I really mean.
I mean there's a lot of great songs on here such as Being Nothing, Drug, and Frozen. But there isn't as much talent bleeding off from the Gus nor Tomas. One main reason that I saw this not being as strong as it could've been was the lack of extensive guitar solos and vocal variation from Tomas, along with the fact that Tom S. Englund had no contributions to clean vocals! I mean what the fuck!? Tom gave a lot of spunk to Nightrage's music along with something different then a straight forward album that Descent Into Chaos brings.
Bottom line is that this is a great album. Nothing more; nothing less, but the songs I've mentioned previously are the standouts of this album. |

There's not as much Judas Priest worship on here as much as their previous efforts from the past. Unbreakable showcases more power metal influence, you'll know what I'm talking about if you here songs like"And There Was Silence". Also, some other songs such as the previously mentioned, and Unbreakable pt.2, Strike, Metal Nation, Give Em Hell, and the leading single, Bad Guys Wear Black are important standouts that add to an extensive setlist for 'Best Of' entitlement in Primal Fear's discography. |

The only thing that is different from the 1999 original is the strength of Tony's vocals. Other than that, the production/mixing isn't too bad, and it is not like In Flames (given their modern parameters; i.e., limitations of Anders' vocals, and lack of Jesper Stromblad) decided to rerecord their indisputable classics. |
