From beginning to end, it's just an onslaught of killer riffage, complex revolving time signatures, soaring vocals, and bass (you'll get that joke f you've heard their recent stuff)! Not to mention the classic! The timeless! The crown jewel of the album! Ladies and gentlemen... METROPOLIS, PART ONE! Ironically, the song is a precursor to another masterpiece (aptly named Metropolis, Part Two, or Scenes From A Memory. Or Both), but I digress. If you're a music fan in general, please... I implore you to check this album out. You will not be disappointed.Dream Theater Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a MemoryAgain. Total classic. The album is cohesive as could be, with a killer story line, killer music, killer vocals, and... yeah, basically everything was perfect on this album. I really don't have too much to say about this otherwise, except maybe pick this up if you haven't heard it already. You're missing out on a milestone from the 90's!Frost* MilliontownWrote a review, so basically how I feel about the album is all in there. Love it!!Opeth Blackwater ParkPeriphery Periphery II: This Time It's Personal4.5 superbAndromeda Playing Off The BoardFantastic music pulled off absolutely flawlessly. I was incredibly impressed with this release, and thought it was especially cool of Fremburg to try and get an otherwise unenergetic crowd into it. I have absolutely no complaints about this album whatsoever, but what could you possibly WANT to complain about? Fantastic production, wicked instrumentation all around, killer vocals, and a... well, they're a crowd. They count. They were there. Definitely a great live album!Between the Buried and Me ColorsBetween the Buried and Me The Great MisdirectI can see where all the hate is coming from, but it just doesn't make much sense to me. The album is as coherent as Between The Buried and Me has always been, so I'm not sure why the expectations had been something other than their style. That being said, I absolutely adore this album, and definitely felt the cohesive theme (almost a lost/constant thought-type vibe. Very cool). Not to mention the musicianship was out of this world! I think my biggest question now is... how in the hell are they going to top this?Dream Theater ScoreLamb of God WrathMastodon Crack the SkyeI don't understand how people are giving this album a 2 or 3. After albums like "Blood Mountain" and "Leviathan", this was a complete and utter breakthrough in song writing and technicality. It was really cool to see this band go from thrash-type music to an all out musical extravaganza. I, for one, loved this album. I felt like it was very well thought out, experimental for them, and the concept was original. Even if you didn't like this, it definitely deserves more than just a 2 or 3.4.0 excellentAndromeda II=IBeardfish Sleeping in Traffic: Part OneBeardfish Sleeping in Traffic: Part TwoBetween the Buried and Me AlaskaDream Theater Train of ThoughtDream Theater Six Degrees of Inner TurbulenceEnfold Darkness Our Cursed RaptureFrost* Experiments in Mass AppealGojira The Way of All FleshRevocation Existence Is FutileIt breaks my heart to give this album a 4.0, but I have to. It's amazing, it's technical, the drums and guitar are spot on near constantly (and do I hear... jazz?), but it's not anything that's groundbreaking or completely innovative. On the flip side of that coin, I absolutely adore this album, and have listened to it near constantly since it came out. FANTASTIC work by the band, and I'm definitely interesting in what they've got in store for us next! The Faceless Akeldama3.5 greatAndromeda ChimeraAndromeda The Immunity ZoneAlmost went with a 3.0 here, but I'll give it the extra .5 for the sheer quality of the production. Don't get me wrong. I love Andromeda, I love the music on this album, but it just didn't bring anything new to the table (aside from maybe a little electronica influence, but we heard that on II=I). Definitely a good album, but nothing I'd write home about.Dream Theater OctavariumPeriphery Periphery3.0 goodDream Theater Systematic ChaosI can't say I hate this album, but it's not great either. "In The Presence Of Enemies" was a great track all together, "The Dark Eternal Night," was MOSTLY killer, and "Forsaken" was bitchin'. Other than that, I just didn't like this album that much. The rest of the tracks either dragged on for too damn long with a bunch of needless sections, or were just plain boring... not to mention the bass drum took command over the rest of everything else (did Portnoy HAVE cymbals when he was recording?). Dream Theater, I love you forever, but for God sake... the hell was that? Try major keys too, I hear they're sweet. Periphery IcarusPorcupine Tree The IncidentI just can't dig on this album as much as everyone else does. Sure, everything up to, and including, "Time Flies" was absolutely fantastic, but afterward... well, I couldn't differentiate the songs if you wouldn't let me see the titles. The bonus tracks were pretty cool, ESPECIALLY "Bonnie The Cat." In short, Mr. Wilson, I love your music, but this album was just not fantastic.
