Glassjaw Material Control
Definitely not as varied or subtle as Worship rand Tribute, but an entire other kind of beast rin its own right. While it seems Material rControl would rather bludgeon you with thick rbase lines and chunky riffs, there is a nuance rto it all that will probably reveal itself rmore after several listens. The 4 opening rtracks are absolute standouts along with rPompeii. Closer is well, one of their worst rsongs. Album closer Cut and Run definitely rlives up to the title, ending the album on an rabrupt note. One thing I noticed, this album ris missing the calmer influence of Todd rWeinstock. Upon first listen, it seems some of rthese tracks just want to pound you in the rface with noise. Todd brought a certain rrestraint to their sound that is kind of rmissing. Production is mostly perfect, save rfor some tracks burying the vocals. A mostly rsuccessful comeback record.

This one was hard for me. I didn't love the
singles at first (still not a fan of Echo Chamber)
and the album in its entirety didn't grab me like
Alien did. When you open an album with a song like
Details Matter, you're gonna be paying attention.
But after several listen there are a lot of little
details that take awhile to "get". The only real
negatives I have are too many pop hooks and some
repetitive songs like Echo Chamber, Xen (although
I do like that song). That brings its down below
Alien for me but overall it's a very strong
release. "Obsidian" may be their best song ever.
It's just massive.

Cut Echo Chamber and Inamorta and this is closer
to a 4.2 for me.

This album is such a grower. Songs like Cypher,
Plenty and Abomination take awhile to really
click. I think that alot of you guys blow Clarity
up to be more than it is and IMO it doesn't really
fit with the feel of the remainder of the album.
If they cut it to about 2:30 instead of over 5
minutes it's perfect... It just drags on too long.

Twelve Foot Ninja Outlier
Twelve Foot Ninja Vengeance
After the first two singles I thought for sure
Vengeance was gonna leave the somewhat radio rock
hooks from Outlier behind. Too much Electronica
and too much "hey we can do different genres"
going on at once. Granted I've only listened to it
twice so far but it definitely comes across as
severely disjointed and unfocused. It reminds me
of ADTR "Common Courtesy". There are either great
songs or ones that are less than mediocre. Maybe
it'll grow more on me but at the end of the day
this is most definitely a downgrade from Outlier
with disjointed song writing and a severe lack of
the br00tal metals.

Meh, after subsequent listens I'll bump it up. 2.5
wasn't a fair starting point. I was just hoping
for a super heavy album from them. IDK really grew
on me and Culture War is just phenomenal. Shock to
the System and Gone back to back drag the middle
down. I'd have thrown Long Way Home in there
to break it up.

OK album rips. Not as good as the previous two but
a few songs like Vengeance and IDK are huge
"growers". Shock to the System and Gone especially
bring the score down though. Gone is objectively
their worst song maybe ever and I hope it's a one
off and not an experiment that bleeds into their
next.

Angels and Airwaves I-Empire
Islander It's Not Easy Being Human
Not surprised this album turned out to be as bad as it
is. Boring, repetitive song writing and messy
production. Just listen to the breakdown in Evil, it's
just a wall of noise and sounds just ear piercing. I
really like Skateboard Flowers, Black Scorpion and Tear
it Down but that's it out of the absurdly long track
list. From what I can tell, Mickey is the problem after
very other talented member left. Good thing their first
two albums were as good as they were because after this
travesty, I don't see a way they put out anything worth
listening to moving forward.
