Okay, we all knew that the sophomore effort from Turner & Co. was gonna be a tough follow-up to Whatever. But give the Arctic Monkeys a break- it's still an amazing piece of work. Where as their debut took place in the club, it's like Nightmare took place in the dark alley behind it- it's darkier, moodier, and packed with more emotional depth. "Do Me A Favour" is a brilliantly loaded breakup track, "Balaclava" is fantastic, "Brianstorm" and "D Is For Dangerous" are both furiously good, and "Old Yellow Bricks" is ridiculous british funk-punk. While the first album was wonderfully youthful, this time around is certainly more ball-grabbing and determined. Whatever is undoubtedly the classic, but Favourite Worst Nightmare earns an extremely solid 4.5. |
