| When I first listened to this, I expected to be pleased with one of the hardcore genre's most brutal, unique bands. I did not, however, expect to listen to, what sounded like, guitars, keyboards, drums, bass, and vocals (that remind me of the mummies moans' in The Mummy) exploding inside a metal trashcan and kicked down a flight of stairs. If you couldn't tell already, I'm not a fan of the disheveled, chaotic bands. While I'm listening to "Sacrifice", four minutes into the album, I already have a concussion because I'm bashing my head against the keyboard. I will give them some credit with the middle of the album. "No Heroes" is almost catchy.........almost. "Plagues" is downright creepy and is the most unique song of the lot. "Grim Heart/Black Rose" is, in my opinion, the best song of the album (which isn't saying much) but even Jonah Jenkins can't save it from being an entire waist of nine and a half minutes. On the bright side (although it is dim at best), Converge is quite original, I will give them that. As far as being one of the best bands of the hardcore genre, however, I cannot agree. |
