4.5 superb
Samhain Final Descent
(One Day Later) So happy to finally have tracked this gem down - the evilive edition too! It's amazing to hear the original version of Twist of Cain and the main tracks did not disapoint in the least. Exactly what I was hoping for, proper unique Samhain rock but also really fresh and distinct from the other three releases. Keeping hold of this forever!

4.0 excellent
Alice in Chains Facelift
(Four days later) Not much more to say, very good. Four standout songs very memorable, rest sort of blended in but that's all right, could get deeper into this. Time will tell. Made a much better impression than Dirt did years back.
Danzig Black Laden Crown
(One Day Later) For an unfortunately-likely final release, it respectfully glides to a finish rather than risk tripping at the last hurdle while celebrating with some kind of experimental structure or production. Perfectly fine for a band with its masterpieces and experiments behind it. Melodic and listenable as ever, I will replay this many times.

3.5 great
Kyuss ...And The Circus Leaves Town
(One Hour Later) Good, really good, perhaps the most enjoyable Kyuss album to listen to. With the exception of the last song, it does away with much of their usual nonsense. However, being album 4, it does show why the band ended after this, it seems creatively dried up at this point, shame they couldn't find a big voice vocalist to add a new dimension in my opinion. Very relistenable, but none of the songs stand out enough on their own.
Type O Negative Slow, Deep, And Hard
(One Hour Later) Great tone, very listenable with a humourous side that just about comes off. Not sure the merged songs were worth it, though, but certainly will relisten and check out more from this band.

3.0 good
ALL Allroy's Revenge
(Three days later) It's no Descendents, that's for sure, but All can hit the spot. I can't recall most of it, but that can happen after a first Descendents listen too, so I can't hate on that. But there are only a few stand out bangers here, albeit much less. I'm sure I'll come around to it again and check out their other stuff sometime.
Black Sabbath Cross Purposes
(One Day Later) I understand why I've never heard anything about this album. I also understand why freshness isn't always better than rehasing something that works. This album is different, but it's also mild, and ultimately Black Sabbath, even if this feels like the weakest set of riffs Tony Iommi's ever put forth. I didn't dislike or like any single track. But hey, at least it's not Tyr, Never Say Die or Technical Ecstasy!
Red Hot Chili Peppers Unlimited Love
(One Day Later) Having never heard even a single song of theirs before I'm pleasantly surprised. Every song either started well but got weird, or started weird and got good. No duds! Not sure I'll listen again, but the better songs are now saved.
Tool Undertow
(One Hour Later) Yeah, having no idea what I was walking into other than the early 90's, I got exactly what I should have expected. I liked it, it was listenable, but not too much stood out either as a song or for the band.
Type O Negative The Origin Of The Feces
(One Hour Later) Very much a sister to the first one, still works and doesn't work for the same reasons.

2.5 average
Failure Fantastic Planet
(Two Days Later) Taught me that embodying a good genre doesn't necessarily make a good album. Unjustified length. Neither profound or deep when experimental, nor enjoyable when digestable. Crept to the edge of Nirvana's Nevermind shadow but never stepped out. Won't listen again anytime soon.

2.0 poor
Black Sabbath Tyr
(One Day Later) As a big Black Sabbath fan it's hard to hate on this album. They are clearly on a high after Headless Cross, and with their technical prowess it produces a sort of Faramir effect: you either like one brother or the other more, and I personally prefer the older, more serious sibling, it doesn't make this worthless but I won't be listening to it again until I forget what it sounds like.
Black Sabbath Forbidden
(One Day Later) Yeah, I desperately wanted there to be something here to go against the consensus. But there isn't. It's just bad, it's aimless and it really comes across like nobody cared - which aligns with the rumour that this was merely an obligation record. The guitar tone is cool, that's about all I can say. We lost fourteen years worth of Sabbath off the back of this, real shame. It also tarnishes Tony Martin's good work on other records by association, another big shame.
