The album also has quiet an ambient-ness to it, reinforcing the water/tidal wave imagery. rLyrically, it seems to be about the cyclical nature of emotions, focusing on the ebb and flow of feelings and the way sadness can give way to happiness, and vice versa. The album explores this theme through the concept of self-loathing. The album's lead single, "My Breakdown," features a melodic blend of harps, reverb-fueled vocals, and a soaring guitar quartet-like wash over, showcasing the band's creative approach to the album's core theme. rDespite the original glimpse of talent throughout listening to this project, I can still hear them trying to replicate the past-sound of the 80s and 90s, specifically stuff by The Cure, Slowdive, Duster, etc... rFortunately, they've seemed to have evolved since releasing Mortal Airways.. rTheir new sophomore album "I'm Washing My Hands at the Bellagio, for The Infinite sadness of London & loss and the foldout mattress" sees them taking a more experimental approach to song writing. Production seems clearer and the lyrics touch on various other themes rather than just heartbreak & misery. I'm Washing My Hands at the Bellagio' may be a more engaging listening experience, but that shouldn't take away from the calm, melancholy atmosphere that Mortal Airways encapsulates. r3/5. Not Bad for a debut.
