Following the raw aggression of The Insulated World (Vulgar) and the melodic despair of Phalaris (Withering to death.), this record leans into the sludgy, low-end grooves of The Marrow of a Bone. The production is notoriously murky. It trades the clarity of their Tue Madsen days for a dense and claustrophobic mix that has been enduring post-ARCHE. Kyo provides a restrained performance that focuses on atmospheric textures over his typical manic gymnastics. The tracklist is expertly paced. It front-loads the aggression with Discard and Bloodline before entering a phenomenal run of highlights starting with the crushing The Devil in Me through the progressive heights of MOBS and Void, and finally the high energy of Demand. The pair of Moumoku ga Yue ni and no end are great in their own right and provide a solid ending to the album. It is a mature and remarkably dark addition to a thirty-year career. It takes a while to get going, but the second half of the album makes it worth it. If this timeline continues, a potential revisit of the UROBOROS era is a thrilling prospect. The Beatles Magical Mystery TourThe Beatles Sgt.
