Cedric's best vocal performance both singing and lyrically. He built a brand off of being
cryptic and completely unhinged, which makes it all the more poetic and powerful that all he
really needed to do was dig deep internally. Omar's guitar is missing through the first half
save a geet solo here or there, but he ends up dominating the lion's share of powerful
moments after Vigil, the album's centerpiece. His melody at the end of Cerulea is one of the
saddest guitar lines I've ever heard emotionally, especially given the lyrical context of the
song. The album belongs mostly to Cedric and Marcel, who takes the shred Omar gave during
the early output and applies it to his keys. He pulls out insane jazz runs, groovy soul
chords and some downright crazy noise on a few tracks. Better than Octahedron, Bedlam In
Goliath and Noctourniquet.

There's two tracks on here that have the classic Volta spirit, too.

If you enjoyed 'Exoplanet' and 'Intrinsic' from The Contortionist, you are 99.95% guaranteed to

albums have, but it definitely gives this album character for where the songs go. The transitions
on these songs are truly nuts, and Carpenter's vocal work is a treasure.

Incredible material. There's only maybe one or two tracks on here that aren't entirely up to snuff to me - but whatever vision/inspiration they had while writing this should be attuned to a new album. I think they're finally actually hitting their "sound" as opposed to sounding like an amalgamation of each members separate projects at times.

Yeah, I really don't understand the hate towards this album here. It's one of the most
unique and against-type records in this weird shred/prog/axe-fx circle of music. It
doesn't have clean, polished breakdowns and and insistence on wank-shred 100% of the
time, and that's a good thing. It instead plays with different electronic samples and
throws in some nice jazzy stuff every now and then. Sarah's vocals are probably the one
reason why this thing is so listenable for me from a songwriting standpoint. They're
super unique in the genre and are infinitely better than someone like Yvette Young. Her
songwriting isn't the best, I'll agree to that. There's some songs on here where the
endings are either super abrupt and don't make sense or should've arrived a minute
sooner. The playing is great, any shred that does occur is 100% better than her other
albums - it's just a complete marked improvement from anything she's been a part of.

Extremely poor production on this. Tracks that should slay like 'Blood Eagle' and 'Psychosphere' are limp dick here. Spencer does his best, but even he sounds weak on quite a few of the tracks.rIt's like all they cared about was mixing the drums and vocals. Everything is so fucking muddy. They're selling a double LP physical release of this for $40, which completely boggles my mind.

Some of the choruses are catchy, but that was supposed to be part of the bargain when it comes to listening to Senses Fail, isn't it? These days, Buddy's lyrics have gone to omega-cringe levels and while his rough vocals are actually decent, he instead decides to sell really obviously autotuned vocals along with his Korn-esque lyrics. This is an absolute shit pile of an album.
