| After hearing the single "Fissure," my expectations for this album dropped significantly. This album met, but in no way exceeded, my expectations. Each song is chock full of passion and energy, but something special that was present in the past two albums is sorely lacking. Musically, it is a bit more generic, yet is still unique enough to distinguish it from other metalcore albums. The biggest disappointment comes from the lyrical content; the brilliant and intelligent storytelling is replaced with lyrical cliches and rather simplistic and underdeveloped narratives. However, both Micah's and Shane's impassioned vocals are able to make the lyrics palatable. Overall, it is still a recommended listen; just do not expect anything overtly original or remarkable. |
