Death Cab for Cutie Codes and Keys
Warmer production and more accessible songwriting make this one of my favorite Death Cab releases and the one I find myself revisiting most. A lot of folks incorrectly described Codes and Keys as their happiest and most upbeat effort, but I feel as if it's displaying joy and pleasure moments before they collapse back into misery. It's a unique feeling and one I don't see as interestingly handled as it is here.

Hey! Say! JUMP DEAR.
Hikaru Utada Simple and Clean (Ray of Hope Mix)
Two new remixes of "Hikari" and "Simple and Clean" for the new Kingdom Hearts game. There's not a lot of content here with just two remixes and their respective English and Japanese versions, but both are gorgeous and arresting new takes on material that's been well worn with the Kingdom Hearts franchise already. That these arrangements breathe new life and excitement into Hikki's vocals is an impressive accomplishment in itself, but they're also ornately produced, colorful tracks.

Prurient Unknown Rains
A return to his roots after 2015's more accessible Frozen Niagra Falls, Unknown Rains is a solid entry in Prurient's catalogue and an emotional, well produced tapestry of chaos and beauty. At times, the project is at peace and engorged in its own sense of aestheticism, itself lavish and surprisingly textured, but seconds later it can topple violently over and explode. It can be a sublime sensation, but in the middle of such straining lengths and lack of editing it can be taxing. Worth a listen

Vanessa Hudgens V
Whoa what the heck I can't believe no one else has rated this album, it's actually really catchy. Just
moody and edgy enough to give it some character, Vanessa Hudgens is low key a strong singer and
the material suits her well. It's too bad she didn't do anything interesting after this because in my mind
there's a lot of promising, straight up R&B pop that could have been capitalized on all over this
record.

Drake More Life
More like a 2.9, but the dancehall elements are way better integrated than they were on Views and there's plenty of full, enjoyable pop moments like 'Get It Together' and 'Teenage Fever,' which is a surprisingly strange little song. The features are kind of boring though and the whole thing is just too long once again. Concision and editing would do Aubrey some good.

Adele 25
Adele rehashes some of her least interesting ideas off 21 for an album that remains remarkably uninteresting throughout. "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" is the only cut I really enjoy at all - everything else feels like a wispier, less convincing b side to her last album.
Allie X CollXtion I
ANOHNI Paradise
Anohni goes all the way overboard with this extremely obvious and hamfisted EP that takes the political discourse of Hopelessness and channels it through a megaphone. For some of the interesting instrumental tracks like 'Paradise' and 'In My Dreams,' there's just so much cringey BS to endure to get there. Like you can only hear someone shout "I DON'T WANT TO RICOCHET" so many times before laughing. Hopefully she takes her next project a little less seriously and with a little more levity because if she goes any further down this path it's going to turn into a joke.
