Botanist give their typical parade but the real enjoyment of the split is the stark juxtaposition of dulcimer-fueled blasts and Oskoreien's pummeling sludge progressions. Roni Size Take KontrolRoni Size and Reprazent New Forms IISenthil CrypticorifislitSenthil SeptisemesisSordid Pink Sordid PinkSunlight's Bane Antiquated ChaptersTool Fear InoculumTyler, the Creator IGORWRVTH No Rising Sun2.0 poorArt Zoyd Armaggedon: Opérette pour RobotsCloudkicker Unendingso much of this record feels like demo work for subsume and beacons. night, arlp 36, and wall felt awkward as interludes and didn't do anything interludes on previous albums have done better. xaoc has a great sense of momentum in the first third but every part of the song feels copied from elsewhere. better versions of every element of blackwing exist on subsume, and the song awkwardly hobbles to a close. this leaves yhwh and void, the first being a decently boring build into nothing and the second being possibly the only song on the record that houses any new ideas relative to Ben's discography with a uniquely spooky middle section. the overall melodic tone and atmosphere of the album felt inconsistent enough to prevent this from being as good a background listen as something like lybh, while simultaneously not being rapturing on a moment-to-moment basis like aforementioned records. woum deserves every lick of criticism it has earned but fuck me at least that release had a sense of identity and experimentation. couldn't help but think of that old youtube comment trend "watchmojo are running out of ideas" listening to this.
