Amenra Mass IIII
Amenra Mass VI
i've already listened to this much more than i would like to admit over the last few days. Amenra mixes their crushing with some of their most beautiful to date, with Colin's use of clean vocals being featured much more prominently this time arround, and reminds us of some of the best moments of their "Alive" release. this is an album to be remembered. A Solitary Reign is the best song to be released so far this year and nothing else has come close.
Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works 85-92

Black Star Black Star
Incredibly, neither Mos Def (Yasiin Bey) nor Talib Kweli had released a solo effort before this album. The two emcees' chemistry is out of this world, and their ability is not put to waste. Fantastic lyricism over great beats/production; one of the best hip-hop/rap albums of all time - and what got me into the genre as a whole.

this is a 4.9/5. the poor distorted guitar tone is really the only problem I have with the album - it just sounds a bit flat and muffled. otherwise perfect, outrageously gorgeous, and really damn fun.

A significant departure from the two group's previous collaboration. it gets very weird, very often, with a stronger
focus on repetitive electronic beats rather than filling the air with pure noise. the two bands come together on
here and sound nothing like their respective projects, aside from the vocals. on this collaboration, they sound like
a collective unit, which was one of the biggest criticisms of the previous LP. there is some really fun and
adventurous experimentation on here, and while it doesn't always hit the mark (the reggaeton and jungle inspired
Master's Story for example) it's an excellent album and I am looking forward to them collaborating again. favorite

This would have been even better were Brodsky on every track. The lack of a second guitar
for some of the songs leads to Ballou playing a greatest hits of the guitar parts and it
sounds "off" in a way, as it is much different than the album sound, sometimes (though this
has been the case since 2001). The record sounds amazing though, really well recorded and
mastered. Great musicians playing a perfect record.

I had never listened to these guys before getting the record in the Holy Roar monthly subscriber package. I briefly heard a couple of their songs from their previous album and their previous vocalist. It sounded like he Louis was trying to sing like Ajay previously, as he seems to have a completely different style here. It's more... meathead-y. In a good way. Pretty enjoyable album but nothing too crazy or groundbreaking. There is an atmospheric instrumental track right in the middle of the record (Nybbas). The second to last song is another attempt at atmosphere, but these tracks don't do much for me, the first one threw me off completely - it's nice enough sounding but both songs feel out of place on the record and go on too long. The final song combines the attempts at making atmospheric post-metal band music with their normal roomy hardcore to much better effect. Pertinence is probably the highlight of the album and I definitely recommend checking it out. For friends of doom-laden hardcore.r
