Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains Love Songs For The Apocalypse
Not gonna lie, the vocals are pretty annoying at first, but Love Songs for the Apocalypse is a brutally
honest recording that takes you into the mind of an angry, drug-addicted homeless man who is fed up
with the world. The song writing is simplistic but effective, overtly so, even. The amount of character and
passion within ever screech and ragged guitar strum is enough to put you into the band's shoes, and the
amount of humor and heart to be found on each and every track is nothing more than beautiful. This
might be a hard grower for most on first listen, but in the end, It's an essential listening. 5/5 [Best

B L A C K I E... All Caps, With Spaces GEN
Definitely one of the most original albums from the past few years, combining low-fi recordings of simplistic, yet effective performances of "organic" instruments (pianos, guitars, etc) with B L A C K I E's trademark yelp-raps, GEN proves exactly how far creativity and "thinking outside the box" can go. Still, this is an experimental album, and with all experiments, negative results are prevalent. Some songs feel like useless filler, and the transition between many tracks is nothing short of frustrating. Still, this is an incredibly intriguing album that I would recommend to anyone looking for something different. Cherubs Heroin Man
After their close friend passed away from a drug overdose, Cherubs set out to write and record one of the
noisiest and most interesting records in their career. Heroin Man is one of the most intense and
catchiest noise rock records of the 90's. Opening track "Stag Party" grabs the listener's attention and the
rest of the album does not let go once, with the exception of a couple of missteps here and there. Solid
4.5/5
Cherubs 2 YNFYNYTY
The fact that this album is the first release by the Cherubs in over twenty years is absolutely mind
blowing, 2 YNFYNYTY is perhaps the band at it's most fresh. The song writing and instrumentation
is to notch, the production is great, but the album still maintains the goofy, odd ball sloppiness that
made the band so enjoyable in the first place. Highly recommended. (Best Tracks: Cumulo Nimbus, Evil

Christoph De Babalon If You're Into It, I'm Out Of It
there is a cold a desolate land that is not too different than the world of our own. it is
grey and in a constant state of rain. the only consistent sound is the subtle murmur of the
earth's weakened heart, but occasionally the ambiance is broken and you will experience the
true sound of fear: the amen break.

The idea of this record not even being a hit among Sputnik users completely baffles me, this is a beautiful record. Little By Little shows the band's maturity, focusing less on distorted power chords and more on well crafted piano melodies. The only bad song on this entire record would have to be " Incommunicado", but that's it. Check it out, you can download it legally for free on their website.

Classic, ass kicking, smart ass, and humorous alternative rock that is a must-listen for anyone looking for something catchy and equaling badass. The lyrics are nothing short of snarky, added nothing but absolute character to this record. Not to mention tracks like "High Fiving MF" and "Back In The Day" are hard head bangers. No Trend More
Hi, this is Supercoolguy64, navigating you, my fellow music fans, through No Trend's final musical offering. Wether this may be your one hundredth listen or first within the spectrum of No Trend, what ever the case may be, I graciously welcome you with open arms. This album is a new sound, as it is a contained sound. Once contained in the collective heads of No Trend, but now contained in this album. It falls in a category of music rarely heard: It's called honest. No Trend finds love, hard work, and knowledge and ties it together, calling it music. While listening to this album, my favorite chair gets softer, my heart is warmer, and life and memories of mine become sweeter. 4.6/5

Really good shit right here, it's just as sporadic as it is self aware. "Textile", for example, starts out as one of the loudest and craziest tracks here, but just when shit really hits the fan, every thing stops and it turns into this weird, ambient-like track that's followed by this weird backwards piano loop. Incredibly fun to listen to, definitely check this shit out yo.

Album titles usually have one job: describe the music. "Filth" does this job perfectly, Swans' first album is one of the most dirty, nasty, evil, noisy, unapologetic, and downright disgusting albums ever recorded, and let me tell you this: it is AWESOME. The bass is heavy and hypnotic, layered with the shrieks and squeals of Norman Westberg's cringy yet awe-worthy guitar, backed with superb metallic percussion and drums, finally frosted with the yelps of Michael Gira himself, who reeks of absolute hatred here. The only bad songs here would be the minute-long filler track "Freak" and the painfully boring "Gang". 4.7/5

Weirdo spazz-indie shit. That Tim Taylor sure knew how to make a silly voice when he sang. Is his voice being played through a moog synthesizer on that first track? Maybe, those guys sure did like to make themselves sound like alien transmissions. Speaking of "Collide" sounds like that one time I was staring at a analog TV screen playing nothing but pure static and barley, just barley could I see someone inside of it. "Fucking With The Altmeter" is the ultimate stalker/suicidal break-up song ever written that features lyrics about a dude who dies in a violent plane crash or something. Give me some love and play this album when I fuck you in the ass, then maybe I wont be so sexually frustrated. So sad Tim died like a mortal human being, no one even remember who these guys are, and they were great. The hands of a genius is so cold...

Deftones Around the Fur
The Detones follow up their debut with Around the Fur, a record that shows more interesting lyrics than their predecessor album Adrenaline, utilizing descriptions and strange metaphors. When a song here gets crazy, it goes all out, with nasty guitar riffs and even nastier vocals. 4/5
Deftones White Pony
Okay, so it might be a little overrated, but I would still be damned to say this is not excellent. Here, The Deftones add very strange elements to their style, from the industrialized "Elite" to the strangly mezmerizing "Digital Bath". The lyrics here take some very dark turns, with themes of abduction to murder. White Pony is an excellent example of a band experimenting with their sounds, but unfortunatly contains a few real duds like "Street Carp". 4.3/5
Deftones Saturday Night Wrist
Deftones are a band that put a lot of their attention to atmosphere with every release they make. Their fifth record, Saturday Night Wrist shows this, with moody tracks scattered all over the place. Don Caballero What Burns Never Returns
Don Caballero For Respect
In their early years, Don Caballero's music was pretty comparable to the other, noisier bands being put out through Touch and Go. Some parts of this album reminds me of bands like Tar, even. Not to say that this is a bad record, quite the contrary, it's just that if you're expecting the twinkle from their other records, you're not going to find it here.

Drenge Drenge
Drenge Undertow
Drenge continue with their distinct, almost self-aware garage/indie hybrid sound with Undertow, a solid follow-up to their self-titled debut effort. This album is much more colorful from its predecessor mostly because the song writing has improved a bit. The riffs are much more intriguing, and the drums are nothing short of tight. "Solid" is perhaps the best way to describe this recording, solid 4.0 [Best Tracks: "Running Wild", "We Can Do What We Want", "The Woods"]

, a fucking beast of a record. The guitars sound like an orgy of buzzsaws and scrap metal,
and the trash can-esque drum tone frosts the instrumentation nicely. Some bland songs near the end,
however the highlights are not to be missed. 4.1/5 [Best tracks: Bad Mood, Sinatra, Blacktop]
Helmet Born Annoying
Listening to early Helmet is a shocking experience, their outtake compilation Born Annoying
feels more like a traditional noise rock record when compared to their mechanical, structured albums like
Meantime. The guitars sound like a chainsaw cutting a chunk of metal into pieces, as evident on
tracks such as "Giesha to Go", and tracks such as "No Nicky No" and "Primitive" shows a more light-
hearted side of the band that most fans would be surprised to find. Think Sonic Youth on a very bad
mood. [Best Tracks: Born Annoying, Your Head]

Local H Hallelujah! I’m A Bum
Released only a few weeks before the 2012 US presidential elections, Local H spits out a social-political themed record that includes all the snark and catchiness that the duo is known for. This album includes some surprises in it as well, such as the buzzing, head-throbbing bass on "Night Flight to Paris" (which reminds me of industrial-rock, to an extent) and the angular, chaotic horn section found on "Here Come Ol' Laptop". An album that's just as fresh and scathing as it was back when it came out in 2012, 4.1/5 (Best Tracks: "They Saved Reagen's Brain", "Another February", "Here Come Ol' Laptop")
Local H Hey, Killer
Local H continues their discography with yet another solid batch of freshly baked jams. For the most part, they play it safe by just writing down catchy tracks and a few epics here and there. However, there's not many real surprises found in this record, so if you're expecting some 10-minute epic collages or weird, jazzy tunes, then you'll be disappointed. However, these guys don't have to play around and experiment to make good music, 4/5 [Best Tracks: The Misanthrope, One Of Us, John The Baptist Blues]

Deftones Deftones
Very rarely can a band produce a string of near-classic records, and The Deftones are no exception. Their 2003 record Deftones is a solid offering, but ultimately leaves something to be desired. THe instrumentation, however, is still as great as usual. 3.5/5
Deftones Adrenaline
Containing simple, but effective guitar riffs and emotional vocal performances, Adrenaline is an enjoyable listen that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Unfortuantly, the lyrics to some of the songs here are, well, stupid. 3.6/5

A great album by a super underrated band. The biggist issue, however, is that it drags on too long. I might do a review of this someday, album needs it.

Helmet Monochrome
The production on Monochrome is defiantly the band's worst. Here, they attempted a "raw" approach rto the production, recording it on the same tape machine they used on Strap it On and rMeantime, resulting in Page's vocals being way too loud. Speaking of, Page's vocals are pretty, for rlack of a better term, crappy. They just sound strained and forced. There are some real gems here, rthough. One of the best being "Bury Me" 3.5/5 [Best tracks: Brand New, Bury Me, Money Shot]

Some interesting stuff to be found here, while most of the covers are loyal to the originals by the legendary Cherubs, there's lots of interesting ideas thrown in the disc. Sitz Brau's industrilized remix of "Baby Heuy" is nothing short of weird and entertaining, and The Christ Puncher's drone metal version of "The Big Groovy" is incredibly heavy. One of the few tribute albums where you don't have to be a fan of the original band to be interested.

Whitehouse Right To Kill
Dedicated to Peter Kurten, Sadist and Mass Slayer shows Whitehouse improving their- oh wait, my bad, this is the wrong album. Right to Kill is perhaps the group's worst recording ever made, which probably explains why it was only released in limited quantities and never reissued. It's basically just a tired rehash of Peter Kurten, only nowhere near as entertaining. A self-parody, one to completely skip all together.
