5.0 classic
Alice in Chains Dirt
Phenomenal work. Easily one of my favorite grunge releases. Dark, heavy, riffy, and brooding.
Alice in Chains Jar Of Flies
While definitely dark in many points, Jar Of Flies brings out the best in Alice In Chains, allowing us to truly absorb Layne Staley's personal struggles and crafting one of the best EPs in music history.
All That Remains The Fall of Ideals
The Fall Of Ideals is ATR's crowning achievement and the album that I often credit as being what got me into metal. It's fast-paced, melodic, and absolutely heavy metalcore that exceeds anything they had done beforehand and anything they have done ever since. My favorite metalcore release and one of my favorite albums in general.
Anberlin Cities
Fun and poppy while at the same time sentimental and occasionally moving, Cities is a well-written and mature alternative rock album that remains Anberlin's most memorable and incredible release to date
As I Lay Dying An Ocean Between Us
As I Lay Dying expand on their sound by adding some melodeath and thrash elements to the woodwork, and as a result show a high amount of maturity and growth. The music sounds heavier, the structure feels more fulfilling, and the songs really stand out as some of the best in AILD's discography. My favorite album by them.
August Burns Red Constellations
Becoming The Archetype Celestial Completion
Born of Osiris The Discovery
Progressive deathcore at its finest. Just an onslaught of awesomeness from beginning to end.
Born of Osiris The New Reign
Comrades Lone/Grey
Converge Jane Doe
One of my favorite albums of all time. Such a strong, technically proficient, beautifully written, ferociously energized mathcore at its finest. I'll take my love (for this album) to the grave.

The Contortionist Exoplanet
I remember first starting this album and going "great, another generic deathcore release." I'm glad I stayed all the way through. This album is the perfect blend of brutality and beauty. The heavy parts hit hard and really drive the whole mood of the record, while the synth-y, progressive moments give it depth and are incredibly beautiful in so many moments. Every part of this album is done perfectly, from the guitar work, the vocals, the production, the drum work, everything fits together and works terrifically well. This is one of my favorite albums of all time, and it has remained the band's masterpiece for me. 10/10

The Faceless Planetary Duality
Underoath They're Only Chasing Safety

4.5 superb
After the Burial Rareform (Re-release)
Rareform is After The Burial at their best. It's fast, melodic, catchy, sometimes brutal, but always heavy. This is their strongest and best album to date and one that I could listen to for hours on end. The re-release in particular is my favorite rendition of this album, fixing issues such as the production and terrible vocals that made the original almost unlistenable. One of the finest albums and bands in the "djent" movement. 10/10
Agalloch Ashes Against the Grain
Bleak, dark, and atmospherically beautiful, Ashes Against The Grain shows Agalloch expanding from where they left off with The Mantle but pushing back on the acoustic and folk elements in order to create a perfect post-black album. This has some of their best musical moments, including "Falling Snow," my favorite Agalloch song, and the atmosphere is gloomy and reminiscent of a world falling apart, a common theme amongst Agalloch's music. This album is an experience everyone should be a part of, and that stands out among their already glowing discography. 10/10
Aletheian Dying Vine
Great technical death metal for fans of Cynic and Atheist (ironic, considering this is a Christian band). I enjoyed this a lot.
All That Remains This Darkened Heart
Great album that features the band moving to what I consider to be their classic sound. My second favorite album behind The Fall of Ideals.
Archspire Relentless Mutation
Archspire Bleed the Future
Attalus Into the Sea
Becoming The Archetype Dichotomy
Becoming The Archetype Children of the Great Extinction
Between the Buried and Me Colors
Between The Buried And Me's Colors is a must have for fans of progressive metal. It's massive and epic on every level, and features fantastic guitar work, a brilliant vocal performance by Tommy Giles, and beautifully constructed songs that in many cases will blow your mind. This is one of my absolute favorite albums of all time and a staple in the band's discography.

After the Burial In Dreams
After The Burial follow up their masterpiece "Rareform" with an album that focuses more on melody and less on technical riffing. Normally this would be a problem; however, "In Dreams" manages to craft a catchy and heavy album that will no doubt garner more of a following then they already have. Vocalist Anthony Natormaso comes into his own on this one, and the songs feel a little bit more structured than on their previous works. While "Rareform" is still the better album, "In Dreams" is by no means a step down, but rather a continuation for After The Burial and an accessible album that many will enjoy whether they've heard ATB or not. 9/10
Alcest Shelter
I love the direction Alcest took with this album. Sure there is no longer any black metal thrown in, but as a whole the album is beautiful, warming, and fantastic dream rock. It feels like when the snow is melting away and spring is coming into bloom. A gorgeous album, one of my favorites of 2014.
All That Remains …For We Are Many
This album takes what ATR did on Overcome but in a much better way. The album is a great blend of the band's heavier works (featuring a lot of brutal death growls) and their lighter, more radio friendly side. The good news is, in comparison to their recent trash, the lighter side isn't too bad. Has some great songs on here, and this is definitely one of my favorite releases from this band. It's too bad that they followed this up with A War You Cannot Win and The Order of Things.

Avenged Sevenfold Waking The Fallen
The highlight of Avenged Sevenfold's career, with soaring guitar solos, a great blend of clean and growled vocals, and great songs that just stick with you long after you listen to them. The new stuff is excellent, don't get me wrong, but none of their work before or after Waking The Fallen even comes close to its prowess amongst the legion of metalcore albums in this day and age. A great release, and my favorite from the band.

Periphery Periphery
There is a lot to love about Periphery's S/T. Musically, it's very ambitious, and that ambition follows through. All three guitarists are able to deliver catchy, heavy, sometimes chaotic riffs reminiscent of Meshuggah, Sikth, and The Dillinger Escape Plan. Spencer Sotelo's vocals, while not as good as they would later become, help to keep the pace going, and he is able to transition back and forth between heavy and clean. At 72 minutes it never feels boring and each song sticks out in their own right. Considering what the band would release later on in their career (the Juggernaut double album, to be clear), this album shows more so the potential that Periphery had and would later gain as they moved forward. However, it's still an album that many should go check out, as it is a perfect example of modern progressive metal. 9/10
Periphery Periphery (Instrumental)
Many complained about Spencer Sotelo's vocal performance on Periphery's S/T debut, but I rather enjoyed it. However, I can say that this instrumental version of their debut helps to illustrate just how good Periphery is at using their instruments. There is a reason why this band is heralded as one of the best bands in the "djent" genre (which I don't really consider to be a genre personally), and musically the band has always exceeded even when its vocals haven't been up to par with other "djent" bands such as TesseracT, Meshuggah, and Vildhjarta. There's nothing new here; it is the same album. however, it is a great version of the album that helps to illustrate the complexity and talent which went into making Periphery's S/T debut. It's a great disc and fans will no doubt love it. 9/10

Veil of Maya Matriarch
I could say that I'm a little disappointed by Veil of Maya's new album, because after the song "Mikasa" completely blew me away, I was expecting this to be the best album of the year so far. It's not, at all, but it's still a great VOM record. It continues with their sound from Eclipse, continuing with their catchy, progressive/"djent" sound but with the addition of clean vocals. The new vocalist does a great job, though I still miss Brandon Butler on vocals; hopefully he'll come more into his own with later releases. Overall this is a great album, with some great experimentation in sound, that ultimately doesn't measure up to earlier records but will still satisfy fans of the band. 8.5/10

A fun, albeit silly, folk metal album with a fun concept. Features some of my favorite songs from the band.
All That Remains Overcome
Sure, it's not the monster that The Fall of Ideals was, but regardless, this is still a heavy, enjoyable release. There's some great songs, and even the "softer" songs aren't all that band. So long as you go in with an open mind, you will no doubt enjoy it.

Born of Osiris Angel or Alien
Born of Osiris Soul Sphere
There are a lot of great moments sprinkled throughout this new album. Unfortunately, as a whole, the album really doesn't bring anything more than what BoO has already brought to the table, only this time it is less interesting. Sure there are more technical songs on here, and there are definitely a few songs that stick out among Born of Osiris' best work, but for the most part everything seems like more of the same, only with less of what made me fall in love with the band in the first place. Not a bad album, but definitely not on the same level as their previous releases (I even liked TWDA better than this one). 7/10

Cameron Argon shocked the hell out of us when he revealed that he was not only releasing Deprive this year, but also secretly releasing a second album, Black Earth Child. And between the two, I think that Black Earth Child stands out as the best of the bunch. Not to say that Deprive was a bad album, but Black Earth Child is faster, more technical, better structured, and overall more satisfying than Deprive was. This is right up there with Sleeper for DTG's best album to date.

These are five awesome songs that continue to prove how great Erra is and how they are showing that metalcore isn't dead yet. I can't wait to hear more from this band in the future!

However, I listened to it again, and you know what? Sure, it's not as perfect and mesmerizing as Portal Of I, but this is still a breathtaking album. It's got very consistent and perfectly executed song writing, powerful vocals, and musicianship that most band can't possess after ten albums. Ne Obliviscaris is truly one of the most original and breathtaking bands in our modern age, and I can't wait to see what they do next.

Intrinsic is by no means a bad album. In fact, it contains some of the best work The Contortionist has ever done. However, I felt this album didn't live up to its predecessor by any means. It felt a little unfocused, and all the pieces didn't connect well like they did with Exoplanet. There is a lot of great moments sprinkled throughout the record, but it never feels consistent. Still, it's a fun listen and definitely earns points for going in a more progressive direction. 8/10

[d]Elusion by A Body Divided is a surprising deathcore album with heavy, technical riffs and a challenging message of questioning your beliefs.

Maybe its the fact that I'm a die hard Staind fan, but I actually don't mind AL's solo work. Granted, it's cheesy as all get out, but not necessarily the awful album most people have made it out to be.
Abandon Control
Christian pop rock that's actually really enjoyable. If you're a fan of bands such as The Killers and Anberlin, this band will be a great addition to your music collection. 8.5/10.
Abandon Love Prevails
A solid follow up to "Control" with a greater draw to the poppier side of their music. However, this actually works well in the band's favor, as it makes each song very catchy and memorable. Give these guys a listen! 8/10
Abandon Abandon II EP
Abandon Abandon EP
Abated Mass of Flesh Brutal Death
Abated Mass of Flesh Deathcrusher
Abated Mass Of Flesh still bring the heavy, but this time it's not as memorable or special as their previous two efforts. In fact, it really doesn't bring much more to the table than those same, albeit awesome, brutal slamming riffs that we've become accustomed to with this band. This is still a fun listen and won't change your mind about this band either way, but at the same time that's what leads to "Deathcrusher"'s step down from "Brutal Death" and "The Anatomy Of Impurity." 7.5/10
Abated Mass of Flesh Eternal Harvest
Abated Mass of Flesh Not Burned
Abated Mass of Flesh Abhorrent Postmortal Vicissity
Abigail Williams Becoming
A very solid atmospheric black metal album that captured my attention throughout its duration. Not among the best in its genre, but still a nice nod to bands such as Wolves In The Throne Room and Agalloch. Definitely worth checking out.
Abiotic Symbiosis
As far as technical death metal goes, Abiotic show a lot of potential on "Symbiosis." It's very fast and very enjoyable, though one can argue that the abundance of fast riffs resorts to the band "wanking" their instruments a little too much. Regardless, while this album is not a masterpiece nor is it the best that the band could offer, it's still a solid release that shows Abiotic's musical power that may grow upon future albums.
Abnormality Contaminating the Hive Mind
Brutal death metal at its finest. "Contaminating The Hive Mind" shows that Abnormality are not a force to be reckoned with and that in time they may become one of the best in modern death metal. Taking influence from bands such as Dying Fetus and Suffocation, they bring a heavy dose of brutality into each song and never let it go. This a band that deserves your attention and have demonstrated a lot of power and strength even at such a young age. Definitely check this one out. 9/10
Abominable Putridity The Anomalies Of Artificial Origin
If I could describe this album in one word, it would be SLAM. And that's exactly what "The Anomalies of Artificial Origin" does. It slams all the way from the beginning to the very end. Definitely for fans of brutal, down-tuned death metal.
Absent Distance Common Ghost of the Lifelines
An excellent surprise from a band that could very well be on par with Textures and many other bands in the modern progressive/djent movement. Combining experimental, ambient, and progressive elements into one, Absent Distance bring an album that is as ferocious as it is soothing. This is an excellent start for a promising band, and I can't wait to hear more! 9/10
Across the Sun Before the Night Takes Us
Another surprise in the metalcore scene. Filled with progressive and death metal tendencies, Across the Sun bring a lot of potential to their debut album "Before The Night Takes Us." There's a lot of positivity in the lyrics, as well as some pretty sweet riffing and melody. While not entirely original, this does show a lot of promise for the young band, who perform this style a little bit better than the majority of bands like them. 8/10
Adelaide Slugtrail
Admonish Insnarjd
Not a departure from your typical black metal, but interesting and engaging enough to give a recommendation. There are some really well written songs and plenty of atmospheric riffing to make any black metal fan fall in love. It also features two acoustic instrumental tracks that are great as well. Check these guys out. 8/10
Advent Pain & Suffering
After the Burial Dig Deep
The best After The Burial release since Rareform. Driven by great rhythm, groovy riffs, and a lot of passion, this shows a band that could have given up after tragedy stuck but kept on going to make the best of their situation. This is an epic album, and definitely worth checking out.
After the Burial Wolves Within
"Wolves Within" shows After The Burial reverting back to the more technical sound from their albums "Forging A Future Self" and "Rareform," but not without a price. While the musicianship definitely lives up to the change in sound, "Wolves Within" suffers from underwhelming production quality. Everything sounds too muffled and distorted. Because of this, it doesn't quite have the impact that albums like "Rareform" or even "In Dreams" (which I know a lot of people hate) had. Maybe if they had fixed it up a little bit, we could have had a return to form for After The Burial that had great production rather than just...well, a return to form for After The Burial. Still a good album, still listenable, still enjoyable, but ultimately bogged down because of this issue.
After the Burial Forging a Future Self
A good start for one of my favorite bands. Great riffs, solid vocal work, and a lot of groove and melody that make the songs memorable. Not as great as their later albums, but still an enjoyable portion of their discography. 8/10
Afterimage (IL) Unveil the Unseen
Agalloch Pale Folklore
A great start for an incredible band. Showcases the band to come, with a little more emphasis on black and death metal.
Agalloch The Mantle
Who knew black metal could be so beautiful? This was the evolution that Agalloch needed to take for their career and is a near perfect follow up to Pale Folklore. Here, Agalloch paints a portrait of a world soon to collapse, where the existence of God is questioned and the evil of man is revealed, and it makes for some incredible, beautiful music combining black, folk, and avant-garde metal. The atmosphere is powerful and the lyrics are hard-hitting. Overall, while I still say I love Ashes Against The Grain better, there's no doubt that The Mantle is following close behind.
Agalloch Marrow of the Spirit
Doesn't hit quite as hard as the older material. Still good, by no means bad, but not quite at the level that other Agalloch records were at.
Agalloch The Serpent and the Sphere
Once again, this album doesn't live up to the originals. There's something about this style that, while it is still great, just keeps the band from going in the direction that many people want them to go. Still a great disc, and in many ways better than MOTS, but still not quite where I want the band to be.

Alice in Chains Alice In Chains
Not quite as amazing as Dirt or Jar of Flies, but still a great AIC record nonetheless.
Alice in Chains Facelift
A great debut, containing the dark themes that would later pervade the next few releases.
Alice in Chains MTV Unplugged
Not the most interesting release by AIC, but still has its moments. The acoustic backdrop works for quite a few songs.
All Have Sinned Desecrate Their Graves

A step back from The Discovery for sure, but that doesn't stop it from being a pretty awesome release. While the album is more simplistic than its predecessor, it still contains the elements that make BoO one of my favorite bands. There are some great riffs, catchy songwriting, and great electronic work. I love it, despite what others say about it.

Post-Metal isn't something I often delve into, but I had heard some really great things about Callisto (particularly from the Christian metal scene), and I thought I would give them a try. And I have to say that I really enjoyed this album. There's some great atmosphere here, the instrumentation is great, the vocals are solid, and overall I found it to be really enjoyable. Not an album that's going to blow people's minds, but one that many fans of atmospheric music will find pleasure in. 8/10

I wasn't sure what to expect from CHON first going in, but after it finished I found myself really happy with the end result. This is a great instrumental progressive rock album that is almost like if AAL went for a more softer sound and added some vocals on a song or two. This was very relaxing, yet captivating at the same time. This is definitely one to listen to if you want to sit back and enjoy some well constructed prog rock.

Disfiguring the Goddess Deprive
Heavy, fast paced, and even featuring a few progressive elements, Deprive is a solid effort by DTG. However, I can say that the album lives up to its name, and not in a good way. At only 19 minutes in length, this album does Deprive its listeners by feeling like there's not enough here to be considered a full length. This doesn't make it bad; there's some great, catchy death metal here, but I wish it could have been a lot longer.

Many people are comparing this album to Sunbather by Deafheaven, and it's easy to see why. There are a lot of Sunbather-esque moments, particularly in the first track. However, after that the album delves into something completely different, and for the better. It's a dark, emotional journey that makes you feel like you're in someone's personal hell. As good as Sunbather? Maybe not. A beautiful album? Absolutely. One of my favorites of the year so far.
Gideon Calloused
I've heard only a few tracks before hand from Gideon, but finally got around to listening to this album. I'm really impressed. Granted, this is nothing new or out of the ordinary in the legion of hardcore/metalcore bands out there, but it's definitely got some fun and heavy riffs to jam to. Definitely for fans of The Ghost Inside, For Today, and Parkway Drive.

Irreversible Mechanism Infinite Fields
There's nothing wrong, specifically, with Infinite Fields. It has everything that makes technical death metal great; the precision in the instrumentation, the fast but controlled riffing, the atmospheric vocals, all it is here and all of it excels very well. However, I will say that both this album and the band who made it don't necessarily standout among the onslaught of tech death bands we have out nowadays. They're not up their with the likes of Fallujah, Beyond Creation, The Faceless (which is funny since ex-Faceless drummer Lyle Cooper is in this band), or Obscura. I can commend it for not falling into the trap that most tech death bands do, which is that they focus so hard on playing their music as fast as they can that they just become boring. Never on this album was I bored, and this album at 39 minutes goes by pretty fast. I just wish it could have stood out a little more. Still, there are more good things here than bad, and ultimately Irreversible Mechanism are a band that I hope will continue to grow and hopefully gain a higher status in the tech death world. There's a lot to love here and if your a fan of this style of music, or metal in general, this will no doubt satisfy your craving.

Probably my favorite album of 2015 so far. It's technical, progressive, weird, chaotic, melodic, etc. It has everything that makes prog metal awesome. Native Construct took all their influences, from Dream Theater to Between The Buried and Me, and weave it together to form their own unique style. Such an incredible album and probably one of the best prog albums I've heard in a long time. 9.5/10

A bit nostalgic, considering I grew up with this kind of music. Nowadays it doesn't do much for me, but there are still a few songs here or there that I can tolerate or even enjoy off of this release.
Oceano Ascendants
Oceano is a band that has received much hate and disdain from metal fans, but most of what I've heard from them have been pretty good. I really enjoyed their debut album Depths and a few samples I heard from their previous two albums have been pretty decent as well. However, I can say that Ascendants without a doubt is Oceano's best album. It's some of the heaviest, gut-wrenching music to be put out here in 2015. There are a lot of breakdowns, sure, but they're ultimately what make this album as freaking heavy as it is. Not only that, but they through in a lot of parts that sound straight out of a brutal death metal CD. The album does get repetitive at times, but overall I had a blast listening to it. Recommending this to anyone who love heavy, punch-to-the-face type music. 8.5/10

Periphery Juggernaut: Alpha
The first half of Juggernaut shows off Periphery's growth in their song writing and melody. There are a lot of "poppier" moments here, but never do these moments tear the album down. In fact, a lot of the best moments come from Spencer Sotelo's fantastic vocals. Whether its his poppy and melodic cleans or his low and furious growls, the man has proven that he has come a long way since the first album. He has improved so much. The songwriting is also at the top of its game, with Misha Mansoor, Jake Bowen, and Mark Holcomb busting out some great riffs. The band is quickly breaking their djent mold, and with an album like this, it's easy to see Periphery becoming the next Dream Theater within the next couple of years. This is a progressive metal masterpiece, and this is only the first half! 9/10
Periphery Periphery II: This Time It's Personal
This album shows Periphery moving towards a more standard progressive metal sound while still retaining some of their "djenty" qualities. In many ways, it is an improvement over the first album. Spencer Sotelo's vocals have greatly improved, both clean and unclean, and we see that he's becoming a little more confident in his placement in the band. There is also a lot more maturity here from a songwriting standpoint. The band could have easily made an album that sounded exactly like the last one, but decided to grow a little and not hide behind the "djent" gimmick. However, I didn't feel that this album was memorable as their S/T record, nor did it have some of the musical qualities that made that record stand out. It also begins to lose track around the beginning of the second half with some tracks that feel a bit like filler. This is odd since the first album was longer, but I felt like this one didn't flow as well. However, Periphery II is still a fun return for the band, and continues to show them moving forward. 8.5/10.
Periphery Periphery III: Select Difficulty
Periphery Juggernaut: Omega
Continuing from part one, Omega encompasses the heavier side of Periphery's Juggernaut double album. However, that doesn't mean that they've sacrificed their fantastic songwriting which was prominent on Alpha. They continue to prove themselves with each song that passes by, including the 11 minute title track which could almost rival "Racecar" from their first album. After listening to both albums all the way through, I can definitely say that Juggernaut as a whole is Periphery's best work to date. They not only have improved greatly from their first album, but have grown into more than just the leaders of the "djent" movement. They are a progressive metal powerhouse filled with great musicians who know how to weave a musical story together. If they are becoming this generation's Dream Theater, this is their Metropolis 2. It's a fun, poppy, heavy, epic, and all around incredible album that will easily be one of the best albums of 2015, if not all the way at the top of the list. 9/10

Red (USA) Of Beauty and Rage
Red really disappointed me with their last two efforts, but man did they revive themselves with Of Beauty And Rage. Returning back to the "alternative metal with strings" sound found on their first two albums, Red remind us here why we fell in love with them in the first place. This album made me feel invested in a way that I didn't experience listening to Until We Have Faces or Release The Panic. There's a lot of atmosphere here, not to mention some downright heavy moments that could be the heaviest in the band's career. An hour in length, it never feels bloated or over ambitious, but greatly reminds us that Red is still an amazing band and still can make amazing music. This is their best album since Innocence and Instinct and one that I can't recommend enough. 9/10

Revocation's ST record would have been in my top 25 of 2013, and Deathless just continues to prove why this band is as good as they are. Also props to their lead singer for improving his vocal work. 8.5/10

The Contortionist Language
I was worried about this album prior to its release. It sounded more and more like it was diverting away from the "Exoplanet" sound that made me fall in love with the band in the first place. However, as the record went on, I felt the new sound fit perfectly with what the band was trying to go for. It's beautifully atmospheric, but also filled with plenty of heavy moments, screaming vocals or not. Mike Lessard is a great addition to the band, and overall the band is moving a great direction, and I'm loving it. 9/10

Imagine if Opeth and Eluveiete had a baby together. That's a sense of what you get with Wilderun's Sleep at the Edge of the Earth. Abated Mass of Flesh The Omen King
Man, what a disappointment. I was really looking forward to "The Omen King" as it was built up for
fans since early 2013, and all I can say is that this album has a lot of wasted potential. Half of
the songs on this albums are re-recordings of earlier material, and only two of the remaining five
tracks are actually worth listening. Now on its own, this isn't a terrible album. There are some
good tracks, and even the older tracks sound pretty well. However, they don't have that grittiness
that I loved about them in the first place, and one could argue that this album is way
overproduced for its own good. I hope on later albums, AMOF will be bring a little more to table.

Don't remember much about this release, only that I remember enjoying it. Might have to give it another listen someday.
All That Remains A War You Cannot Win
Man...after defending these guys for the past two albums, this one really showed them taking a nosedive. This album is sloppy, formulaic, and a completely watered down version of their previous music. This is terrible stuff, with Down Through The Ages being the only truly enjoyable track on here. Even die-hard fans should stay clear of this release.

All That Remains The Order of Things
Probably some of the most excruciating 48 minutes of my life. The All That Remains I grew up loving, the band that I credit as being what got me into heavy metal in the first place with their first couples of albums, is COMPLETELY gone, only showing up in a few brief moments. You thought A War You Cannot Win was generic? Wait til you hear this one. Most of the songs on this album sound like they should be on a Theory Of A Deadman album, focusing more on a radio/hard rock sound with some metal tendencies here or there, which wouldn't be bad if they didn't sound so completely dull. Phil Labonte's singing and writing are probably at their most annoying, and though he does bust out some great growled vocals, they're not enough to save this album. What makes it worse is that he has said many times that he likes to piss off people who complain about the change in ATR's sound, which makes it sound like this is all a joke to him. And it shows completely in the outcome of his music. I was willing to give ATR another try after A War You Cannot Win, and I've even defended the band on albums like Overcome and For We Are Many, but this is the last straw. I don't expect ATR to return to their harder style anymore, and it is a shame because of how incredible This Darkened Heart and The Fall Of Ideals were. This album was a completely let down and has shown me that my faith in ATR was only a waste of time.

Rings of Saturn Lugal Ki En
I was a fan of Rings Of Saturn's previous albums, but this is simply more of the same. It's fast and technical as all get out, but therein lies the problem. This album relies way too much on "let's see how fast we can play our instruments," and is all style, no substance. I hope that ROS will, in the future, learn to actually construct songs and bring some substance to the table, rather than just play fast for the sake of playing fast. Some good moments, but not as good as it could have been. 4.5/10
