Blood Orange Angel's Pulse
Com Truise Persuasion System
Persuasion System is the fourth LP from electronic musician Seth Haley who performs under the moniker Com Truise. According to Haley, Persuasion System is about ?looking down at a landscape?. The landscape created here is for the most part a spacey and pleasantly nocturnal one, but also one that can at times grow a bit tiresome and monotonous. That isn?t to say there aren?t a few great standalone tracks. Among these are ?Ultrafiche of You?, the slightly darker ?Laconism?, and the ambient leaning ?Gaussian?. If the synthwavey 80s vibe is your thing, then give this project a try. 60/100
Little Simz GREY Area
On this project, Simz covers a variety of topics ranging from gun violence (see ?wound?) to mental health (see ?therapy?) to being a woman in the rap industry (see ?boss? and ?venom?). The instrumentals show a mixture of classic hip-hop and grime influences and prove to be effective templates for each vocal performance. On that topic, it?s the vocal performances across this thing that are truly the main point of attraction. Simz manages to be both explosive and technically impressive throughout, rarely giving off even a hint of lyrical stumble. There?s nothing to complain about here, aside from perhaps a lack of any grand over-arching the
Keiji Haino and Sumac Even for Just the Briefest Moment
Offered here is what I would consider to be a disorienting and hellish atmosphere of noise. Interestingly enough, I consistently found peace in this atmosphere - despite there being almost nothing traditionally peaceful about it. The growling bass, unrelenting drums, and occasional shouting from Haino all come off as harrowing on their surface, but in some strange way there is relaxation and enchantment to be had within their fury. Maybe it all has a primordial feeling to it that hits a certain primitive sweet spot in the back of the mind - who knows. I'm not sure what I'm ultimately getting at, but this record is good. 76/100
Chance the Rapper The Big Day
This is an astonishingly disappointing debut from Chance. The man who once took great pride in his independence is now a poster child for over produced industry pop rap. I wish it wasn't true, and I wish it didn't take 80 minutes. Fuck.
