| MetalSoliloquy I (obviously, given my rating) think it's great. I really like the confused and dark atmosphere, and technically it's simply impressive. It's not an easy album to listen to, but it doesn't have to be imo. Not sure, if it'll stay till the end of the year but as of now it's definitely a contender for the top 20 list.

 | BenThatsMyJamin So glad to hear you're down with the devster man. Yeah most of the stuff on that album is new ground, it's just Incandescent which sounds exactly like it was written by turn-of-the-century Devy - maybe explains why it's possibly my fave. Empath is gonna be a ride.

| BenThatsMyJamin Yep, might have to bump Air to a 4.5, utterly original album. Incandescent alone built enough emotional tension for an entire double album's worth of release imo. If you've never heard riffs like those on Air it might be time to introduce you to my good friend Devy

| BenThatsMyJamin 100% the writing, Air just had hooks for days. It took a while for me to acknowledge that as I actually sorta dismissed them initially BECAUSE of their gimmick sound. I definitely enjoy the new one, but a lot of the intensity and passion in the vocals especially has been lost. I mean the climaxes of Resin and Trail of Sulfur were just full-on aural assaults while still somehow being smooth and melodic as heck. This is very pleasant, but tame.

| Pon There's an incredible recording of Lassus' Penitential Psalms by Herreweghe as well that I'm positive you'll like. Also check out A Sei Voci's catalog as they've done some amazing renditions of both secular and sacred vocal music, with a particular emphasis on Des Prez. Stile Antico is another ensemble that's been coming out with some great stuff lately too.

| Pon Assuming you're listening to Herreweghe's interp then I'm glad you're digging it. I've been sifting through a bunch of Gesualdo recordings that I'll probably rate soon-ish, but so far I haven't come across anything as amazing as his Tenebrae. Check my "classical in 2018" list and peep the renaissance/baroque vocal stuff if you want stuff that is vaguely similar.
