 | Insignia777 I'm thinking of posting reviews on this site again. But they're gonna be WAY better than the terrible s*** I posted beforehand. lol they were barely even reviews period.
 | Insignia777 I heard you guys talking about that video I made a couple of years ago and I'm like "omfg please tell me this still exists". That video was like the stupidest thing ever.
 | Insignia777 Hey. It's Insignia. God, I was such a dick back a couple of years ago. My reviews for so terrible. I was just browsing a couple of hours ago reading a bunch of Rush reviews, and I saw my old review and I'm like "wtf is this even still doing on here?". So, for s***s and giggles, I checked it out and I'm like, god, this is so bad. Like, I deserved all that hate in the comments cause I was an a** hole.
 | Toad yah i went to high school with lucy, so i lived in an RVA suburb throughout mid and high school.
 | DoofusWainwright It's all nutty my friend, that songs got the biggest classical influence. Elsewhere they sound a bit like Hundred Waters and then you get the truly crazy songs where they rap. It won't disappoint for entertainment
 | BigHans Hey man, just saw your post. For that type of thing, check out Latterman, Iron Chic, Red City Radio, Replacements, Bouncing Souls, and Lawrence Arms. And the War on Drugs. They all kind of have that Americana type feel
 | Toad I shall return one day
 | Atari haha, nope. the band PUP made their own Nintendo game to promote their upcoming album and I thought it was so cool I had to temporarily change my avatar
 | Toad hey, always nice to meet a fan. frog is out trying to start a slam poetry career and he's struggling but fulfilled so that's nice
 | Mongi123 I actually give talons the reins for it cause I really wasn't doing this one justice, but we have a staff one now so it's all good. I may give The Mountain a try sometime actually.
 | Mongi123 Nah nothing crazy like that he just gives a traditionally great performance. Nothing too eccentric like that though.
 | Mongi123 I actually may bump it cause his vocals rule so hard on it.
 | Mongi123 I'm gonna listen to it again tomorrow, cause I started my review for it, but for the most part most of the substance is gone. Pretty fun record though! Red Giant and The Endless Knot are fantastic.
 | Feather I had a lot of friends to play with back in the day which was nice. Actually the reason I changed my avi was because I found a yu gi oh gba game the other day and was playing it on my flights last week. Never heard of hearthstone, but I know I wouldn't have the time for it anyway
 | Feather Thanks man! (assuming thats not sarcastic) I used to be quite the duelist back in the day.
 | Sevengill Not only that, but he and I co-write a song for my last album ^-^ Taravana - Prevail, "Until You Slip Away."
 | Sevengill Still liking Fallow Fields? If you liked that you might enjoy Barrowlands. Maybe not quite as good as Harrow, but good winter mood bm.
 | Titan because those are the two best songs the band has to offer
 | Titan dude, have you heard the song Visions or Celestial Elixir by Haken?
 | Titan i like it michael, without paying attention to the cheesy lyrics or concept.....a lot of the songs remind me of the scaled back tunes on Scenes and disc 2 of 6 degrees.....no wankery other than track 2......James Labrie is great here......lots of harmonies and melodies.....very little metal, if any
 | Titan http://www.rushisaband.com/blog/2015/12/08/4562/Geddy-Lee-responds-to-Neil-Peart-Drumhead-magazine-retirement-announcement
 | Titan we will have a new album in a couple of years and a tour in about 4 or 5......they will resurface after some years of sitting idle, even if it's a short tour.....after an absence, i believe Rush will be able to sell out stadiums on a 8 - 10 trek stop.....you will see them again
 | DaveyBoy Haha. I tell you another one I really like, but it's quite a weird one, so not a surefire reco. Check out Melanie Martinez - Crybaby. It's more bubblegum pop with a very very dark twist. I also took a listen to the Halsey LP, but am not sure how much I like it yet.
 | Archelirion You are correct! USSR 1926 (so sticking with the theme), releases on the 30th October. I can't wait - https://kapitaenplatte.bandcamp.com/album/we-stood-like-kings-ussr-1926 :]
 | Archelirion Hey dude - seem to recall plugging with you a couple of weeks ago and I said I'd let you know how We Stood Like King's 'Berlin 1927' was. It's fantastic, basically. I guess there's a bit more guitar than the track I played, but it's all high-register twinkly stuff so post-rock standard.
 | manosg hmm not so sure but I get some Bathory - Hammerheart (viking metal) vibes or even Down - NOLA (stoner). Maybe check those two and if something more comes into my mind, I'll let you know.
 | manosg I'm of the same opinion. I get bored of one riff songs that some dudes on here seem to love. So funeral doom is not my thing, exactly.
 | manosg That's for starters and sorry for the late response! If you need any more, just shoutbox me dude!
 | manosg From '90s stuff, Solitude Aeturnus - Into the Depths of Sorrow, Cathedral - The Ethereal Mirror and Spirit Caravan - Jug Fulla Sun are a good start. Now for variations such as doom/death, Paradise Lost - The Plague Within, My Dying Bride - The Angel And The Dark River, Anathema - The Silent Enigma and Theatre Of Tragedy - Theatre Of Tragedy (awesome female vox) are all pretty good.
 | manosg Hey elcraw, just saw your message in the Tales from the Thousand Lakes thread a few days ago asking me about doom recs. From earlier material I'd suggest, Pentagram - First Daze Here (the band at its prime), first three albums by Candlemass, Witchfinder General - Death Penalty (probably first official doom release) and Trouble - Psalm 9.
 | NeroCorleone80 Depends on what kind of doom you're looking for. If its traditional then Psalm 9 by Trouble is a must. But theres a lot more types of doom metal out there.
 | Hawks Their mid stuff is more prog/folk metal, then starting with Eclipse they bring back the melo/prog dm with the folk and oriental elements. Silent Waters is their best and one of my fav albums of all time so I highly recommend you jam that asap.
 | Hawks I hear you bro, not a big deal lol. But yeah new Amorphis slays hard.
 | Titan not too big on doom elcraw....but if you come across any sweetness, let me know!
 | romulanrancor Haha yeah, just been checking out all sorts recently and revisiting albums from my childhood. Its been a wild ride.
 | Mongi123 Yep! Seeing them live gave me a whole new level of appreciation for them. What an amazing show!
 | Mongi123 Clarity and Futures is really all you need from them. Futures has Pain, which you'd prob know, but that record is awesome too.
 | Mongi123 You tried that one first? Damn lol glad you loved it though the rest of the album is a masterpiece. Really emotional stuff with amazing lyrics.
 | Mongi123 Oh Jimmy eat world? Yes absolutely not haha Clarity is considered an essential and influential emo album. But anyway yes hope you enjoy them all!
 | Mongi123 For other stuff: Kenotic by Hammock(ambient/post rock), ( ) by Sigur Ros(post rock), Draining Puddles Retriving Treasures by A Bunny's Caravan(emo/post rock), Clarity by Jimmy Eat World(emo), Somewhere Along The Highway by Cult Of Luna(post metal). That should keep you busy for a while :) hope you enjoy!
 | Mongi123 Ok here goes: First of all, try out some Isis. My favorite band atm and one of the greatest I've ever heard honestly. I suggest trying out In The Absence Of Truth first since it's there most accessible but it's really underrated.
 | Mongi123 Sure dude haha I'm not home so I'll give you tons of them when I have my laptop. You looking for heavy? Slower? A little of both or even combined?
 | Titan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkQydoiDY28
 | MO thanks for the words dude hope you enjoy the rest of the EP!
 | Titan it was a periscope feed from someone at the show last night, it was live.

 | Titan and try King Diamond - Conspiracy.....i don't agree with the masses that Abigail is his best....as a matter of fact, I never listen to that one anymore
 | Titan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M62zt0CZid4
 | Titan Try some King Diamond - he rules........Abigail, Them, Conspiracy, The Eye. He also fronted Mercyful Fate, check out Melissa and Don't Break The Oath.....killer albums!
 | Titan elcraw bro you seem to be doing pretty good! maybe start expanding on each group that you're into (rated) along the likes of The Who, Yes, etc... Take a look at my 5's and 4.5's and that is what I would rec to you. What style do you like best?
 | manosg Hey dude. Read your review and it's pretty good. I don't think I have anything substantial to add. Maybe you could draw some comparisons to a couple of well known acts so as people like me who have never listened to the album have an even better idea of how the album sounds. Just nitpicking though.
 | manosg Sure, man. I'll read it and share with you any suggestions I have.
 | Mongi123 Well it's true you know haha who here has been one forever ;) Gotta get my life started and all that s***. And no not yet man. Soon, soon.
 | Mongi123 Yea dude I hear ya and that's great! Personally, I don't really care about forcing out reviews for new releases anymore. I just wanna pop up and review whatever I actually have something to say about. It may be at the expense of my tag too but I can't be contrib forever right haha
 | Mongi123 I just read it. Very awesome work dude. Much better than I was at review 5 haha you should go back just to see how much better you are than I was then ;)
 | cara123 OF COURSE! I WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT A 5 BUT YOU DIDN'T MENTION AMBIGUOUS ENOUGH SO I HAD TO TAKE 0.5 OFF OF IT
 | DaveyBoy Its the least I can do. Let me know when you post your next review, which will hopefully be a non concept album, so I/we can see if you do a similar thing again.
 | Mongi123 Sure dude. I'm going out soon but I'll give it a read when I can.
 | DaveyBoy You, my friend, have hit paydirt. Great idea and one that I will definitely use. Dont expect it soon as I still have a few ideas of my own, but thats one I just had not thought of. Which probably says how much I think of them. Yet, Im fairly sure Im in the minority around here, which is why it should make a for a great topic. Great call. Thanks again.
 | DaveyBoy Much appreciated Michael. I'm gonna call you that from now on as your user name is tricky to write. Yeah, Im glad its going well, as I really wasnt certain it would work at first. Even other staff members had their doubts. At the end of the day, it lives or dies by you guys. And the level and quality of discussion has been extremely positive. Now its just a matter of me not burning out and continuing to come up with appropriate topics. If you think of anything, dont be shy in letting me know.
 | demigod! mark my words friend his time shall come
 | demigod! he will make his return when sputnik needs him most
 | DarkNoctus thank you very much, man! i'm really glad you dug it!
 | Mongi123 Well the human anatomy is always interesting and I gets lots of tension headaches so I honestly just got me interested in it. Plus I need some sort of change in direction so I figured I'd try this.
 | Mongi123 I'm gonna be going for the radiography program. First I have to complete all of my prerequisites though which means I won't be ready for the fall, which is the only time they accept people unfortunately. So I'm gonna be focusing on getting good grades and I'll also be at school all ****ing day on mondays and thursdays ugh
 | Mongi123 Haha hey dude don't worry I know who you are. And you can rest easy cause I think Atrai convinced me to not leave. I'll be A LOT busier once the semester starts and so I'll prob just review a lot less and pop up in conversations every once in a while. Thanks for te kind words though!
 | AtomicWaste "Almost classic, but not quite" is how I view it. There's still a bit to prove for the album and it's something I'd consider returning to to slap a 5 on later if it holds up over time. I mean, it's like getting a 98% on a grade in school. You've done an amazing job, but it's not PERFECT by a slight margin, which is, I think, fair. Sometimes that's how things are.
 | ChoccyPhilly Yeah, it was a pleasure plugging with you and froot. last.fm? Sadly not because my computer freezes whenever I try and use it, so i stick with youtube/bandcamp/soundcloud.
 | Sowing Always awesome to experience Brand New for the first time...what album was it?
 | ScuroFantasma I would recommend starting at 'By The Light of The Northern Star' and then visiting either 'Eric the Red' or 'Valkyrja'. Also, if you want to experience some proper folk metal, try Eluveitie, they have a god balance of folk and metal elements. Finntroll are great too but they focus more on black metal, not sure if that's your thing.
 | ScuroFantasma There are some bands similar to them, but generally folk metal is a lot more 'folky'. Green Novice are technically 'folk influenced metal' as opposed to folk metal (the songwriting and riffs/licks have a folk metal feel to them but they lack the strong folk element of folk metal bands). If you like GM, I very strongly recommend Tyr, they have a similar style and Heri is a fantastic vocalist. Valkyrja was for a long time my only 5.
 | ScuroFantasma Hey, man I'm glad you checked Green Novice out, what did you think of the band? And did you really dislike the vocals?
 | Sowing haha me too...priceless
 | Sowing Yeah I figured why worry about negative perceptions - the site has only recently found a place as a legitimate source of music criticism, I don't want to taint that.
