Toondude10
01.24.17 | So either Arrival is going to take some of the technical stuff or La La Land is going to get a big sweep this year. Some of these were pretty obvious though.
2016 was a great year for movies imo, hopefully 2017 will be better. |
WeinerMan
01.24.17 | i cant believe batman v superman didnt get nominated for anything. loved that movie |
Chortles
01.24.17 | me neither |
Toondude10
01.24.17 | I can, that movie was awful imo. |

01.24.17 | idk i think a dogs purpose is a strong contender for best picture 2017 |

01.24.17 | jesus christ my ass hurts |
DoofusWainwright
01.24.17 | Terrible year for film - Arrival is nice but c'mon only a 7/10 |
Toondude10
01.24.17 | You didn't see too many movies this year have you? |
WeinerMan
01.24.17 | for real did you not see suicide squad? harley quinn was so cool |
JWT155
01.24.17 | Saw Silence this weekend, great film. |
JWT155
01.24.17 | Suicide Squad was so laughably terrible lol |
MO
01.24.17 | director should be gibson hacksaw was amazing |
Toondude10
01.24.17 | I've been dying to see Silence, though it's only showing at like 11:00 at night in a theater that's 30 minutes away from me. Hopefully it'll show up at my local theater soon. |
DoofusWainwright
01.24.17 | There weren't many to see, Suicide Squad was poor, the David Brent comedy was average, Arrival was above average, Hell or High Water was just above average, the Rogue Star Wars was a massive improvement on the previous one and gets my film of the year so far...but only an 8/10 movie. I'll check the musical gubbins thingy but doubt it'll change my life.
Last few years some ropey stuff has been lauded as classic (Boyhood? Meh), next year I'm expecting much better
People have started voting with their wallets, empty cinemas |
JWT155
01.24.17 | Hail Caesar and The Nice Guys were both fantastic this year, Deadpool was a great R Rated comic flick. |
Toondude10
01.24.17 | I was kinda hoping Deadpool would at least get nominated for Best Picture but I knew that wasn't going to happen. Would've been funny as hell. |
adr
01.24.17 | haven't seen La La Land yet, but looks like hollywood sucking their own dick type of movie so prob will take most awards, i'm keen on seeing Moonlight tho |
DoofusWainwright
01.24.17 | 2016 was horrific for cinema ticket sales and deservedly so, Hollywood has to pull its finger out. People bored of repetitive franchises esp superhero conveyor belt fodder |
WeinerMan
01.24.17 | My expectations are way too high for La La Land since it's apparently the fucking best thing ever made. I'll probably only be disappointed. |
wtferrothorn
01.24.17 | what adr said [2] |
JWT155
01.24.17 | Outside of the 5-10 oscar baity drama flicks each year, a majority of the remaining films annually are very stale. I'll take a mediocre 80's/90's action flick over almost any action film these days. |
Chortles
01.24.17 | go watch manchester by the sea u dinguses |
AmericanFlagAsh
01.24.17 | La La Land will win because Hollywood loves movies about Hollywood. Excellent movie though.
Manchester was my favorite out of the ones I've watched. |
JWT155
01.24.17 | I've heard good things about Paterson as well. |
JWT155
01.24.17 | I think you could throw Sully in there, that's a film that I never had an interest in seeing. |
Toondude10
01.24.17 | Yeah Sully was...okay. Really disappointed in it honestly. |

01.24.17 | Doctor strange's visuals were kick ass |

JeetJeet
01.24.17 | Best sound mixing and best visuals need to go to The Neon Demon. Seriously the most beautiful looking/sounding flick of 2016. |
JeetJeet
01.24.17 | 2016 kinda sucked for movies tho. Television outshined films last year IMO. |
furpa
01.24.17 | Based on the noms I think Emma Stone should take best actress, but yeah when Meryl Streep takes a shit the academy hands her a statue so I've no doubt that they'll give it to her again for another bullshit role. |
neekafat
01.24.17 | Agreed that Arrival is superior, but just barely. La La Land deserves to take it home for sure |
runaways
01.24.17 | Nah Moonlight is getting Best Picture guaranteed. |
runaways
01.24.17 | also I thought Zootopia and Deadpool were both massively overrated. And I'm saying that as someone who typically enjoys Disney and Marvel movies. |
CoreyHaimsGhost
01.24.17 | isnt this the show where the judges are racist |
elliootsmeuth
01.24.17 | this is WAY better than Moana.

01.24.17 | "Television outshined films last year IMO."
[2]
though i think the quality of tv is pushing the quality of films a bit right now which is nice |
Trebor.
01.24.17 | Manchester By The Sea should win everything but the oscars fucking love shit like La La Land so that's going to win everything even though it's nothing special |
Snake.
01.24.17 | "I didn't see this movie because I hate being depressed while watching a movie"
no wonder you have such a deplorable taste in film |
Toondude10
01.24.17 | love you too Snake |
Divaman
01.24.17 | As usual, didn't see any of these, so I have zero interest in watching the Awards. |
neekafat
01.24.17 | What as wise man |
JeetJeet
01.24.17 | Hell or Highwater needs to win best original screenplay. And I'm hoping Mike Shanon wins for supporting actor. |
brainmelter
01.24.17 | surprised nocturnal animals didn't get any nominations beside supporting actor |
neekafat
01.24.17 | @brain yeah thought it might get screenplay |
Toondude10
02.27.17 | well time to see how bad my predictions are this year
I might as well check tomorrow morning since I don't feel like staying up until 1 a.m. like last year. |
JWT155
02.27.17 | Love the love for Hacksaw Ridge, Mel Gibson sure knows how to make a great film. |
p4p
02.27.17 | Moonlight and Manchester by The Sea are my faves from last year. La La land is pretty meh tbh and Arrival was great iirc. |
Killerhit
02.27.17 | Suicide squad for best makeup and not kubo for best animated feature
Thanks oscars, your whiteness and unoriginality is showing |
p4p
02.27.17 | well the judges are mostly white old men, but most of them still knows their shit unlike the judges at grammys. |
ArsMoriendi
02.27.17 | Can Isabelle Huppert please win best actress... she was amazing in Elle. |
wtferrothorn
02.27.17 | yooooooooo moonlight |

02.27.17 | hahaha |

02.27.17 | yea that was pretty bad |
Spec
02.27.17 | honestly after all the shit that happened last year they had to give it to moonlight |
Asdfp277
02.27.17 | edit: never mind, thought u said "yesterday" |
EyesWideShut
02.27.17 | the ending was easily the most entertaining thing about the show.. take that bald asshole from LaLa Land. |
neekafat
02.27.17 | La La Land was better than Moonlight
That being said, I'm glad it won, it was still an incredible movie
Arrival was best overall tho ;) |
henryChinaski
02.27.17 | Glad Casey and Moonlight won. |
zakalwe
02.27.17 | Arrival would've won if the aliens were seeking refuge and in exchange for safety they enlightened everyone on trans-gender issues while simultaneously identifying as African tribes 'people' from 700BC. |
TheSpaceMan
02.27.17 | ^bigot |
zakalwe
02.27.17 | ^ist of some sort.....the cool'ist' :D |

02.27.17 | i wonder if the results would've been the same if the #oscarssowhite hashtag never existed
liked them equally but i thought la la land was really gonna take it |
TheSpaceMan
02.27.17 | you've got to be joking... was that really an ordeal? |
p4p
02.27.17 | people treating la la land like its on par with sunset blvd or singing in the rain smh |
DoofusWainwright
02.27.17 | lol Zak - fuck the oscars, the worst example of circle jerking back slapping hob nobby luvvy noshing retardation you'll ever witness
Just look at the list of Best Film winners and try not to chunder |
Toondude10
02.27.17 | La La Land was better than Moonlight [2]
The only reason why they chose Moonlight was to make sure they didn't make it look like they were offending black people. |
Toondude10
02.27.17 | On another topic, my predictions were a lot better than they were last year. |
guitarded_chuck
02.27.17 | there are things i couldnt care less about, and then there are the oscars
the grammys are even worse |
MO
02.27.17 | glad LaLa Land didn't sweep the awards
also that best picture gaffe was funny but it was handled well by everyone |
guitarded_chuck
02.27.17 | did anything interesting and youtube search worthy happen like did anyone shit on the donald |
JWT155
02.27.17 | Reading the internets reaction on the mess up is hysterical but so cringy. Did people screw up, yes. Was it awkward, yes. Is it the end of the world because this happened, no, people were mature and understood the mistake and moved on. Yet perusing Reddit the amount of people u in arms saying Fuck this person and that so and so owes an apology and what not is astounding. So many people triggered. |
MO
02.27.17 | we all know the internet is full of completely logical people who don't use it as a means to voice their completely over the top shitty reaction and opinions about the smallest things |
guitarded_chuck
02.27.17 | lol im just seeing this now, its not the end of the world but really if the envelope was for a different award it was quite a low iq move to just go ahead and announce it rather than be like um brb |
JWT155
02.27.17 | Watched it live, Warren Beatty originally read the card and was confused, it didn't look right. He stalled, created and awkward silence and then the women next to him took the card and read the movie title, she didn't realize there was an issue. |
guitarded_chuck
02.27.17 | smrt |
JWT155
02.27.17 | "we all know the internet is full of completely logical people who don't use it as a means to voice their completely over the top shitty reaction and opinions about the smallest things"
Oh no, I completely agree, I've just gotten to the point where I feel like an old fuck because I swear every time I read people giving advice or an opinion it's the dumbest most illogical over reacted bull shit. |
Alouette
02.27.17 | they finally got best picture right |
p4p
02.27.17 | amy adams should've won the best actress category tbh |
JWT155
02.27.17 | From what I've gathered from La La Land, Emma Watson did a great job but it was a well crafted role that I could see many other actresses thriving in as well. Great performance but I don't think Oscar worthy. |
p4p
02.27.17 | i mean emma stone is talented but its like picking jennifer lawrence over brie larson cuz the former is more pop yknow |
guitarded_chuck
02.27.17 | amy adams should have won goat cleavage |
MO
02.27.17 | dude no kidding. her, jennifer aniston and that busted chick sitting beside Ryan Gosling hnggggg |
JeetJeet
02.27.17 | Moonlight was better than LLL though. In fact I'm trying to wrap my brain around why everyone over hyped La La Land to begin with. And everyone nominated for lead actor put on a better performance than Casey Affleck. Denzel should have taken that W for sure. |
p4p
02.27.17 | dude that scene where Lee is confronted by his ex-wife like how could you not be moved by his performance. |
guitarded_chuck
02.27.17 | havent seen it yet but caseys my boy im sure he did v well, will watch it soon tho |
JeetJeet
02.27.17 | @p4p Affleck did good yea, but let's be real he got outshined by everyone else in that category. Denzel definitely deserved it more. |
brainmelter
02.27.17 | his win was questionable but Denzel? I don't think he should have won either
lots of competition for male role, women not so much his year |
Toondude10
02.27.17 | naaaahhh |
zakalwe
02.27.17 | Boyhood |
DoofusWainwright
02.27.17 | Boyhood was 12 year aged prime tripe |
zakalwe
02.27.17 | Boyhood was one of the best I've seen for years. Oh yeah it's the Oscars of course it didn't win. |
DoofusWainwright
02.27.17 | 'Best in years'
Hang around with any child for 12 years and I can't imagine the experience could be as dull as that film
You might find yourself put on the register though |
Toondude10
02.27.17 | Boyhood sucked tbh |
zakalwe
02.27.17 | A coming of age tale with a sense of reality. Loved it.
Here is my best films of the last 10 years.
Boyhood
Ex Machina
The Revenant
The Hateful Eight.
That's it, films have totally lost their appeal. Re-hashed bullshit on a monumental scale or stuff so up it's arsehole it's beyond entertainment. |

02.27.17 | jesus. zak, have you tried foreign movies? |
zakalwe
02.27.17 | Pompous as fuck innit |
JeetJeet
02.27.17 | You knock Boyhood off that list and its a pretty good list tbh. |

Boyhood was a 3-hour borefest fest. |
NordicMindset
02.27.17 | i liked it |

02.27.17 | It's not surprising that people think there are no good movies coming out anymore when all they ever watch is American stuff. There are so many other countries where artists are given much more creative freedom. The Handmaiden was a brilliant movie for instance. |
GuanoBumbershoot
02.27.17 | I like how Warren Beatty, stuck in a gawky fuck-me-moment like that, eventually just bullet-passed the envelop to Faye Dunaway hot potato like "Here asshole, you take the fall for this one." |
