| Rotm: Bands I Saw In 2014
I went to quite a few concerts in 2014, saw some of my favourite bands and
discovered some new ones. | 1 | | Elvenking The Pagan Manifesto
April 7th @ Le Transbordeur, Lyon, France: | 2 | | Rhapsody of Fire Dark Wings of Steel
April 7th @ Le Transbordeur, Lyon, France: | 3 | | Gamma Ray Empire of the Undead
April 7th @ Le Transbordeur, Lyon, France: fun show filled with songs from all across their
catalogue and of course some new songs (surprised they didn't play I Will Return). | 4 | | Guerilla Poubelle Amor Fati
April 23rd @ La Marquise, Lyon, France: I saw a bunch of French punk bands on a rather tiny
boat along the Rhone river. The bands were Pepper Noster, RAB, Le Reparateur and Guerilla
Poubelle. | 5 | | Black Tusk Set the Dial
June 22nd @ Hellfest, Clisson, France: the first band I saw at Hellfest and they put on one hell
of a show, full of energy and just plain fun. I never even knew who they were before this, but
it was enough for me to check out their music. R.I.P. Athon | 6 | | Annihilator Alice in Hell
June 22nd @ Hellfest, Clisson, France: I was a little far away from this one, but it was great
to see a Canadian act up there. Played a lot of really old songs (Alison Hell, Human
Instecticide) and some new ones. | 7 | | Dark Angel Time Does Not Heal
June 22nd @ Hellfest, Clisson, France: Wasn't very impressed with these guys, to be honest,
the drums were too loud and they had very little energy. I didn't really help that I wasn't
familiar with their songs either. | 8 | | Soundgarden Superunknown
June 22nd @ Hellfest, Clisson, France: on tour for the 20th anniversary of Superunknown, they
stuck mostly to hits off of SUK and BMF, and it was amazing. Chris Cornell can belt all of the
songs perfectly and even make them sound better, although he sang My Wave and Spoonman
rather strangely. The instrumentation was grandiose and noisy as fuck, just what you'd like
from an SG concert. The highlights were Jesus Christ Pose, Searching with My Good Eye
Closed, The Day I Tried to Live. | 9 | | Emperor In the Nightside Eclipse
June 22nd @ Hellfest, Clisson, France: these guys were also on a 20th anniversary tour, for In
the Nightside Eclipse, and they played the album in full and threw in a few old old tracks from
their early-90s EPs (Wrath of the Tyrant and Ancient Queen) FUCKING M/// the band didn't
move around much, but they had enough lights and pyrotechnics to make the visuals more
than exciting. The whole concert was a highlight | 10 | | Black Sabbath 13
June 22nd @ Hellfest, Clisson, France: there was no way I was gonna miss Black Sabbath and
they were awesome, putting out a bunch of their classics to perfection. Ozzy was hobbling
around and acting doddery, but he could sing and get the crowd going. Would totally see them
again. The highlights were War Pigs, God is Dead?, Fairies Wear Boots, Into the Void, and uh
everything mhmmmmmmmmm | 11 | | Unida Coping with the Urban Coyote
June 22nd @ Hellfest, Clisson, France: managed to catch the end of their set from afar, they
played a 15 minute jam which was pretty cool | 12 | | The Pack A.D. Do Not Engage
August 24th @ Metropolis, Montreal, Canada: a fun two-piece garage band, good show | 13 | | Monster Truck Furiosity
August 24th @ Metropolis, Montreal, Canada: a Canadian blues rock band, many undertones of
Deep Purple and the like, fun band | 14 | | Alice in Chains The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here
August 24th @ Metropolis, Montreal, Canada: oh yes oh yes oH YES this was fucking
awesome, the crowd became alive when Jerry came out and started playing the first licks
from Dirt. Awesome concert, Layne or not it was totally worth seeing AiC. The highlights were
Them Bones/Dam That River, Rooster, Hollow, Would? and pretty much the whole thing
goddam | 15 | | Steel Panther All You Can Eat
October 6th @ Bell Center, Montreal, Canada: these guys put on a great show - it's half music,
half comedy, and it fucking hilarious no matter your opinion on them | 16 | | Judas Priest Redeemer of Souls
October 6th @ Bell Center, Montreal, Canada: second time seeing Priest and the performance
was even better than the last one. Rob Halford was able to belt out all the screams he could to
everyone's surprise. JP still puts on a fantastic show, and age will not stop them. The
highlights were Love Bites, Dragonaut, Halls of Valhalla, Jawbreak, Beyond the Realsm of
Death, Victim of Changes and fucking everything else | 17 | | Skeletonwitch Serpents Unleashed
October 11th @ Metropolis, Montreal, Canada: I'd never heard of these guys, but they put on a
rad show (much better than their studio albums from what I've listened to) | 18 | | Sabaton Heroes
October 11th @ Metropolis, Montreal, Canada: full of charisma, energy and cheese, Sabaton
was a really fucking awesome show, they really new how to get the crowd going | 19 | | Amon Amarth Deceiver of the Gods
October 11th @ Metropolis, Montreal, Canada: I had thought Sabaton was really awesome, but
AA stole the show with the sheer power of their music, worth every penny seeing these guys.
The highlights were As Loke Falls, Deceiver of the Gods, Guardians of Asgaard, Twilight of the
Thunder God | |
