03.05.20 | I was in middle school when I first played VII and it changed my life. When the remake was announced five years ago, I couldn't believe it and have been looking forward to it ever since. It sounds like it had a bit of a rocky start getting off the ground, but the demo is finally here and the nostalgia is very real. |
Demon of the Fall
03.05.20 | I wonder what I'll think of this given that I wasn't really into RPGs back in the day this was a thing. I'm weirdly excited. |
DungeonBoy
03.05.20 | Hmm, yeah that's a good question. I think it will attract people who might not be as much into "turn-based" RPG's with the unique battle system they are implementing here.
There is a classic mode where the party will auto-attack and auto-defend, and as the action gauge fills up you can select additional attacks, spells, and items for your character. This is most similar to the original turn-base style, but it also drops the difficult down to easy in the demo (not sure if this will be the same in the real game).
The intended way to play it though seems to be on the normal mode, where you control all of the action, moving/button mashing/blocking, until your action gauge fills up and then you can perform additional actions.
I played the demo using the normal mode and found it to be challenging, with a bit of a learning curve, but kinda got the hang of it over the course of the demo. |

03.05.20 | I got chills multiple times but this opened a Pandora’s box. Now I want them to remake all of them of this quality hahaha. |
DungeonBoy
03.05.20 | dude, yeah man, same here. The music in the remake sounds perfect, like jaw-droppingly good, and there were so many moments where I was like, oh hell yeah. I don't even play a ton of video games, so I'm like what am I gonna do if this thing is 30-40 hours long on the first disc, and then there's three installments of it, so what like 120 hours?! And then you have to wait for the releases between games, like how long is that gonna be. |
SteakByrnes
03.05.20 | The demo slapped, I can't wait for the game to release. FF7 has always been my second favorite game behind Chrono Trigger |
botb
03.05.20 | I read somewhere where someone on the team said it’s gonna be 40 hrs without side quests but the entire game is supposedly going to take place in Midgard so that’s a whole lot of new content. I’m really excited to see what they do for it. Also thank GOD they changed barret’s voice from the trailers hahaha. It’s so much better now, just like I always imagined it sounding. |

03.05.20 | Is the demo for PS4 or PC? Both? |
Uzumaki
03.05.20 | Can you carry over things from the demo to the game? |
LepreCon
03.05.20 | I had goosebumps playing it. I had many concerns about the remake but they've been mostly allayed, I'm not even bothered about the story being split across multiple entries now- because hey, if the games are gonna be this good, that can only be a good thing! |
Keyblade
03.05.20 | been playing the OG on the Switch and found in not as huge on turn based RPGs as I was back in the day. this is a godsend. can't wait til the ps5 comes out so I can play this bad boy |
SteakByrnes
03.05.20 | "Is the demo for PS4 or PC? Both?"
Game is PS4 exclusive |
dbizzles
03.05.20 | I should have known! |
SteakByrnes
03.05.20 | It's okay dad I'll let you borrow mine |
dbizzles
03.05.20 | The future wife is 'making' me pre-order on ps4, but I didn't know it was exclusive. |
DungeonBoy
03.05.20 | which is weird though, cause the ps5 is also on the horizon, so by the time that is released will they have wrapped up all 3 games and released them? Or perhaps it is a big ploy, and they'll release the 3rd exclusively on the ps5 forcing people who want to finish the game to purchase the ps5. |
SteakByrnes
03.05.20 | That would be so mean |

03.05.20 | @Dungeon: to clarify; I’m more versed (relatively) and actively enjoy turn-based RPGs now, this just wasn’t originally released at the right time/place in my life to be actively interested. That’s why I’m excited, but it’s also guarded optimism as I guess my modern lens and the whole remake thing might cause a different and perhaps unfulfilling perspective. Who knows? It sounds like it SHOULD stand the test of time if done correctly. |
ConcubinaryCode
03.05.20 | So does anyone know how the ge will be structured? It's supposed to just be in midgar but it's a full game? This is my biggest head scratcher |
DungeonBoy
03.05.20 | 3 separate game releases currently planned. The first release is supposed to be completely in Midgar and should be around 40 hours long for just the main quest.
Edit: I realize all of what I said is based off speculation at this point. I don't think a complete plan for the entire remake has been released, so a lot of it is going off rumors and the little bits of info we have. |
DinosaurJones
03.05.20 | I was smiling like a fool the entire time I was playing it. I can't wait for the full release now, I'm so hyped. |

03.05.20 | Where's the chocobo racing remake |
Dewinged
03.05.20 | The intro floored me, it was perfect. Fun gameplay, decent but not great voice acting, but all in all, can't wait to get it in full. The nostalgia bits are so good... aaah... |
TabulaRasa6
03.06.20 | My version ended up with the Japanese voices (which is preferable) but I'm curious to hear the English voices too.
The demo is absolutely astounding. The new gameplay mechanics feel unique and like they will be tons of fun to master when the final product is released. I feel like I'm going to end up playing it several more times until April. |
samwise2000
03.06.20 | This remake is gonna be so fuckin good i cannot wait. So many good games this year, especially with that RE3 remake just around the corner and TLOU 2... seems like this year is gonna be an awesome year for gaming |
Gallantin
03.06.20 | The demo is fantastic and incredibly fun to play. Very excited for the full remake. And unlike others I love that they're fleshing it out more. I think a trilogy of Midgar, Kalm-Aerith's Death, then the rest, would be a perfect way to bring it all together in a satisfying modern reimagining of the story. I already like that the demo alone is touching on things that were only speculated in the original (Shinra blowing up their own reactor).
Both English and Japanese voice acting is good but I'll be sticking with English because it better suits the setting and characters.
I also think it's funny that Baldur's Gate 3 is going turn-based and FF7R is going real time with pause. It's like classic RPGs from the US and Japan are swapping roles as they evolve further. |
Gallantin
03.06.20 | Also, I think it's pretty much confirmed that the first game will finish with the motorcycle sequence as all the characters are at the end of the long highway. They're turning that very rushed 5-hour Midgar section into a fully developed city and story. The rest of the game (the original) definitely doesn't need to be expanded upon nearly as much as Midgar does. |
Dewinged
03.06.20 | If they'd expand on the rest of the game as much as they are planning to do on Midgar we woould end up with 15 editions of the game.
Is anyone here excited about the prospect of a FFVIII remake in this vein? |
Deathconscious
03.06.20 | "The rest of the game (the original) definitely doesn't need to be expanded upon nearly as much as Midgar does."
wrong. Midgar should have been expanded on but that doesnt mean they expanded too much on the rest. |
Gallantin
03.06.20 | I think 3 is the perfect number, 15 would be overkill because, well, there's some stuff I already just wanna see right now. But 3 games I think will be good. Midgar sets up so much of the story and lore and context for the world and characters that it's almost essential to make it a full game on its own, I'd say. The next chunk of the game up to Aerith's death is mostly very small towns, a few little dungeons and puzzles, and a lot of fun setpieces. While it obviously will be expanded on, nothing individually needs to be expanded on HEAPS like Midgar does. I imagine we'll get more intensive reimaginings of the Golden Saucer, Red XIII's town/dungeon, a bigger Temple of the Ancients, etc. And obviously new and old side quest stuff from all over the map. The game will probably be bigger than Part 1 and it's more than likely gonna be on the PS5. Maybe it'll be available on PS4 too with performance issues or setbacks. And yeah, third game would just do the rest, open the world up completely, and allow for full exploration and sidequesting before the final run of setpieces til the end. I think that would work well as a trilogy in a modern reimagining. |
Gallantin
03.06.20 | This is all just speculating tho. All we really know is part 1 is "mostly focused on Midgar", and is two discs, I believe. |
Ocean of Noise
03.06.20 | It'll probably be a trilogy and honestly I'm fine with that. These characters and this story deserve it. |
Keyblade
03.06.20 | a ff8 remake would be spoiling us at this point |
Gallantin
03.06.20 | I would kill for an FF8 remake, but considering they just remastered it, it's probably not a concern of theirs.
FF7R's producer said something about wanting to do something in regards to Parasite Eve so don't be surprised if a Parasite Eve remake happens |
samwise2000
03.06.20 | an ff8 remake would be awesome, would love to see the story more fleshed out. Ive also heard the possibility of an X-3, but im not sure how many people would want that considering the polarizing reactions X-2 has to this day |
TabulaRasa6
03.06.20 | I'd prefer a Parasite Eve remake over FFVIII. Not saying FFVIII is a bad game, but out of every Final Fantasy game, the only one that truly could benefit from a new coat of paint is VII. The original is a masterpiece, but the blocky character sprites date the game visually. VI would also look amazing remade, but I'd rather they just keep making new Final Fantasies, honestly.
A Parasite Eve Remake, however, would be incredible and a perfect way to rejuvenate the series. |
DinosaurJones
03.06.20 | I would ADORE a Parasite Eve remake. I always thought that game was a great mix of RPG/Survival Horror |
DungeonBoy
03.06.20 | Absolutely! I'd back that in a heartbeat, the atmosphere and music were incredible, and the blend of RPG and horror was unlike anything I've ever played. It's incredible what Capcom did with the RE2 remake, and now the FFVII and RE3 remakes are both looking to be amazing as well. What a time to be alive |
botb
03.06.20 | Man, a parasite eve remake would be amazing. Heard through the pipeline we may be seeing a legend of dragon remake for ps5 too |
SteakByrnes
03.06.20 | Legend of Dragoon slaps so hard |
Keyblade
03.06.20 | agreed tabula, couldn't take those Lego characters seriously in the early 2000's, much less now. really hard to look past without like a graphics mod on PC we had back in the day |

03.07.20 | i want an FF6 (FF3 in america i think, the one with Tera and Locke and Edgar and whatnot) remake. |
botb
03.07.20 | I would kill for an ff6 remake of this caliber haha. Ff8 would also be sick, a lot of really huge set pieces like the seed missions that would be amazing to see with updated visuals |
