Last year, I was in the grocery store and they usually play pop, which is fine because whatever, it’s innocuous by design. That Taylor Swift song Anti-Hero had ended, no surprise there. Big hit etc. All of a sudden an R&B song comes on and it’s immediately the most irritating drivel I’ve ever heard, but I can’t place why. It’s boring instrumentally and the vocalist isn’t off key or anything, it should be innocuous, but instead I’m deeply uncomfortable. Just something sinister and annoying about it. I pull out my Shazam app and it’s Ed Sheeran’s new song “Eyes Closed.” It all makes sense now. |
