SputRoyale will RETURN in 2024 - but how? in what form? why?
Well, uh, I dunno. Let us know? Post your THOUGHTS about what you loved/hated/needed more-less-none of in this year's tourno and we will upload that shit directly over the template maybe. Changes will be made?! No-one wants a direct repeat!
One thing in particular I am toying with is a *revival round* (to be held at the same time as the Round 4 elimination play-off). The way this might work is as follows:
・Instead of eliminating two artists, the playoff will now kill three
・*One* of these will be replaced by a revived artist, who got killed in an earlier round!
・The artist to be revived will be voted a separate ballot in the same round. The artists on the ballot will potentially be those who were eliminated by the narrowest margins across all rounds (and maybe we will allow for write-ins in the regular Round 4)
Same format except Pig Destroyer have three simultaneous entries.
Three little pig destroyers.
We needed more, not less, pig destroying.
In the likely event Pig Destroyer would face Pig Destroyer in the final the Pig Destroyer who achieved the most one sided mauling in the earlier rounds would win.
Having each group of round 1 be themed might be cool? Like group A sputcore, group B renowned classics, group C current year darlings (bands who have had a well received release in 2024 and are therefore topical) and group D wildcard (idk just weird picks). Might be cool, might be overly rigid / formulaic / narrowing, idk.
Justice was served, all hail our lords and saviours Portishead!
seriously tho good tournie, possibly the best overall quality we've had thus far - Sput getting more based with time? A mere coincidence? Only time will tell
and yes, the revival round idea is a good one - it awards an opportunity for salvation to an entry that may have fallen foul of an untimely brutal match-up
which list are you pastaing from, or did you hack my unfinished and unreleased series revamp?
"Having each group of round 1 be themed might be cool?"
this is cool in principle, but shaky in practice because of how unbalanced some tiers will inevitably be against others. to use your example, starting Round 2 (eg 80 albums) off with a 25% quotient each of sputcore and acclaimed shit is a surefire way to ensure that the following rounds are monopolised by it
up for themes in principle, but this was the main reason we didn't do it this year. would have to be something totally arbitrary (artwork colour) or punitively un-arbitrary (proportion of dudes in the band)
Yeah I figured it’d be fiddly in practice and potentially have unintended knock on effects (half the classics and sputcore killed in round 1, then likely most other recs killed in round 2 by the surviving classics and sputcore, etc). I think you’d have to do more groups but smaller to make it work, but then that messes with the format and drives up admin = bad.
Maybe something more arbitrary like time of release but even then potential sillies could occur
