Demon of the Fall 03.29.23	I'm on this. One Q: if a band is tagged with mathcore, is there any point ALSO tagging them with metalcore? I suppose they may have 'less mathy' material in their discog, idk could be somewhat important, but seems kind of redundant on the face of it (guess it doesn't matter unless a band absolutely needs two other tags that aren't mathcore).

AlexKzillion 03.29.23	"One Q: if a band is tagged with mathcore, is there any point ALSO tagging them with metalcore?" yeah really depends on the the discog and i guess how mathy their sound really is. like i think etid and converge should absolutely keep their metalcore tag... but like dillinger and tony danza can probably lose it as they are pretty much mathcore through and through. or in rolo's case, metalcore/math rock was just a place holder for mathcore the whole time and def have better tags that should replace those. i think the only downside of some of these bands maybe losing the metalcore tag is that they wouldn't show up in the metalcore charts anymore, despite mathcore being distinct subgenre of metalcore

Mort. 03.29.23	'mathcore being distinct subgenre of metalcore' we shouldnt think of these like ironclad scientific classifications. mathcore is a word used to describe bands that TEND to also get described as metalcore however i wouldnt bat an eyelid at someone describing say, doppleganger and self-titled era The Fall of Troy as mathcore, although i wouldnt call them metalcore to me mathcore is just a useful word to describe mathy bands across the heavier side of the rock spectrum (plenty of mathcore bands are more punk/hardcore than metal)
