Great budget setup, and my receiver allows me to play CDs through an external portable CD player. I have also heard the U-Turn Orbit is a good budget turntable but i dont know much about it.

dbizzles 02.21.17	I don't know what model mine is, but I have an Audio Technica w/ Bluetooth that I love. All of my music has been formatted digitally so I don't play CDs ever unless I'm in my car.
wham49 02.21.17	it all depends on what you are after, if you want the convienence, get something from the early 90, that would be the best sounding turntable, cd player combo. otherwise a later model turntable /receiver set up should have a port to plug in a cd, player, that is what I would do, put the receiver turntable on top of the cd player, and it will take up the same amount of space

WhatKeepsMeHere 02.21.17	What's the external portable cd player? I was literally looking at the LP120 with Pioneer speakers yesterday. I was pretty dead set on an all-in-one at first because I liked the retro aesthetics, but would much rather have a modern turntable that doesn't have speed issues. I also saw the U-Turn Orbit come up in my searches a bit and it does seem cool to customize color and such.
kris. 02.21.17	i've got an Onkyo CP-1050 hooked up to a Harman Kardon HK3770 and some old Polk tower speakers that sound fantastic. honestly you don't have to pay that much for a decent setup if you take the effort to look around, though. check like goodwill spots for older turntables that are in decent condition, grab some bookend speakers and a cheap receiver off amazon or something. there's a vinyl subreddit that has a nice guide for building a nice cheap-ish set. also avoid those all in ones like the plague. they sound fucking horrible.

SCREAM! 02.21.17	Don't do combo. You'll get something much better if you pick and choose each component. My rec is look at thrift stores/craigslist/etc, google absolutely everything (lots of forums about audio gear will help you figure out what's good and what to avoid) and wit h a bit of effort and patience you'll find something great without breaking the bank too much. The TT and receiver should be where most of your budget goes. CD players can be bought for dirt cheap nowadays

Audio Technica is good too like i think someone else said, dont get an all-in-one. just get a TT and a good receiver (sony or something). then you can get a CD player to hookup to the receiver someday. cutting corners usually just ends with two more corners
wham49 02.21.17	the problem with a modern turntable is a good one is pretty decent money, I gues you could get one and plug into a cd/receiver combo, I did that for a while, I would look for a good old Pioneer, from the late 70's early 80's always were good for me

wham49 02.21.17	scream the prob with thrift stores is you need to be prepared to have the soodering redone, I have on plenty, but there are many issues usually with those, find great stuff, but usually need to be cleaned and reworked a little
wham49 02.21.17	if you go old, whatever you do test it out before the purchase, let it get warm before because they might work for a few minutes then get warm and the problems come out, crackling, or sound increase decreases, many of these things can be fixed kinda cheap by getting it cleaned or resoodered or something, just need to find somebody who does it
SCREAM! 02.21.17	If its cheap or if the store allows you to return defective goods then it isn't too much of a risk. Worst case you can usually sell if for parts/repairs and recoup a bit (if not all) of your investment. My knowledge of electronics is pretty limited (nearly non-existent) but stuff like cleaning hasn't been much trouble either. Mostly just spraying Deoxit on the connections and that solves a surprising amount of issues haha
SCREAM! 02.21.17	Mine was bought through kijiji (equivalent of craigslist) and same with the one I'd gotten my ex (gf at the time) and both times the guys turned them on and ran them for a bit before I paid and left. It was a bit of a risk because they weren't plugged into speakers but I took a chance and it worked out. People tend to be honest and you'd have to be unlucky to fall on a douche trying to pull a fast one on there I think
WhatKeepsMeHere 02.21.17	If I'm avoiding combos, which it now seems like I am after I had some sense knocked into me, I'm going to just go with new stuff or relatively new because of my inexperience and lack of knowledge. I know some of you are saying I can find a good deal at a thrift store, but there aren't many options in my area that aren't shady businesses. I'm mostly going to look online and buying used online is always hit or miss. I'll check ebay for items in like new condition or very good, but nothing less than that just to be safe. Any other sites that could be better for used stuff? Amazon seems like the obvious option for brand new gear
grannypantys 02.21.17	I have an all in one because it is the only thing i own that can play tapes. But you have to get a real record player as well if you want to minimize damage to your records and actually be able to take advantage of the sound quality a well pressed record provides.

SCREAM! 02.21.17	Nothing wrong with going the new option but, as others have said, if you want something good it can get very expensive. If you go cheap, sound quality will suffer and you risk damaging your records

They had a nice turntable for a good portion of my childhood, but after it shit the bed they bought one of those 99$ Christmas gifts from Target. I could ask around, though. Just to make sure :)

hobblepot 02.21.17	I have the audiotechnica LP120, with some cheap logitech speakers, sound is pristine, possibly the best turntable you can get on a budget price. If someone tells you their player plays the records too fast, either the player is shite, of the people who own it don't know how to work it or adjust the speed. However vinyl is a game of luck, even if you have an amazing player, if you buy a shit pressing, it'll still sound bad. But I highly recommend you the audiotechnica LP120, sound quality is amazing, and has a line out option so no need for a pre-amp, sounds perfect even on my shitty £50 speakers

50iL 02.21.17	Idk I was forced to buy the LP60 cuz I was on a really tight budget and it's worked great for my needs. I'm aware it's not the greatest but it does suffice and gives a good sound as well. I don't suggest an all-in-one turntable tho. Just listen to your CD through your computer and you'll be ok ;)

SCREAM! 02.22.17	I'd put receivers and speakers at 1 and 2 as well just because they relate to the system as a whole (ie everything runs through them whether its the TT, cd player, an aux plug for your ipod, etc) But in the end, the sound quality you get is only as good as the weakest link in the chain so it's all important

wham49 02.22.17	bad table equals ruined records, and speakers are a choice I think, it all depends on sonic boom, how much noise do you want, determines how good they have to be, If you just want bachground music, any descent brand will do the job, I gues the same with the receiver, have used many different combos over the years how about this, there is no order of importance, the quality of the components is related to the needs of the user, I rock a 72 Marantz reciever restored, a 79 marantz table, a pair of 73 sony cabinets and a pair of 98 polk audio cabinets, I have used smaller and less expensive speakers and I think the biggest difference was the different receiver, just my observation

I have a coworker who is a big audiophile, has about a 4000 dollar stereo that he listens to classical on, I always ask if I can bring some thrash to spin, just to see if it is worth it

But in no way should speakers be the last..., Sure this isn't hard science or anything, though as an example (my case): I've spent 350$ (they normally cost $700) on headphones, 250$ on receiver and 200$ on a turntable. And the sound I get is fabulous. First thing to upgrade later on is my power cable as these can influence sound 'purity' .

Lavair 02.23.17	I have a Numark, which I really like. It's made of aluminum, and it needs to be hooked up to external speakers so the record can be heard properly. Pro: It has an adjustable slider, which can play a record either 10% faster or 10% slower. All the records I put on there need to be played about 3% slower, so the slider lets that happen. Con: The Numark doesn't even have the option to play something at 75 RPM, but it can still play 33 and 45 easily.

SCREAM! 02.23.17	It's not audiophile quality obvs but the AT95E is a pretty solid cart that you can get for cheap (and I'm sure there are other comparable ones as well) so I guess that's why people are skipping over that. Been using that one since I got my tt although I might upgrade to a Nagaoka MP-110
