12.03.24 | Every single album I've listened to on this list is absolute quality...and eight I know nothing or next to nothing about. Definition of a great end of year list :D |
zakalwe
12.03.24 | 8 is an absolute blinder Doof!!
Get on it!!! |
DoofDoof
12.03.24 | In terms of best ever year I think this is the best one since the '90s but there are definitely a few stronger years for me in the '90s and maybe late '80s |
DoofDoof
12.03.24 | The cover of 8 is worth a 4 at least |
Futures
12.03.24 | you know i should listen to some deep purple tbh lol |
zakalwe
12.03.24 | Fuck sake, Iâve deleted my response but Futures give âem a go
Doof itâs a year that has been absolutely littered with moments where Iâve emotionally attached myself to new releases more than ever.

12.03.24 | 2016 is that year for me that I never thought would be topped in my lifetime but this year really gave it a run for its money. Amazing year for music, great list! |
zakalwe
12.03.24 | Yeah 2016 was phenomenal as well. It was without question the best year of the 21st century until this year. |
NexCeleris
12.03.24 | Haven't listened to a single one of these, but it's cool to hear everyone join in the "2024 gud" chant. Looks like fans of all genres found lots of new favorites this year.
Everything else a bit shit mind. [2] |
zakalwe
12.03.24 | Bus to college listening to OKC when it was released v Listening to Songs of a Lost World a day early - OKC
Unwrapping the packaging of Ladies and Gents v Looking out the window in autumn when Bethâs album really did click and hit me like a ten ton boot - Beth
Fish and Firkin boozer, bucket hat and talking about Dianaâs death and Be Here Now v stood outside my workplace purposefully being 5mins late as I was waiting for Romance to finish thinking âhow fucking amazing is this!â - Romance
Mogwai Young Team, Boatmanâs Call, Urban Hymns, Dig Your Own Hole v Some of this shite.
Itâs close to call and I would probably take Boatmanâs Call and MYT over anything here barring the top 2 but in terms of amount of quality albums Iâm going with 2024.

12.03.24 | 1994 at the time - The Holy Bible, Welcome to Sky Valley, Superunknown, Jar of Flies, The Downward Spiral, Troublegum, Dummy, Music for the Jilted, Vitalogy, Unplugged in New York, Purple, Whisky for the Holy Ghost, Burn My Eyes, Ruby Vroom, Protection, Betty, etc
1994 discovered since - Grace, Crooked Rain, I Could Live in Hope, Mirror Blue, Mighty Joe Moon, Selected Ambient Vol 2, Bee Thousand, I Hope You're Sitting Down, Hex, Wildflowers, Dubnobass, Let Love In, New Plastic Ideas, Amber, Bakesale, etc
This year had a lot of good releases but 1994 is still the daddy and I didn't even really like the brit pop of Oasis, Blur and Pulp who all had really big albums that year. |
zakalwe
12.03.24 | 1994. For me the ones that really had an impact on me at the time were Purple, Nirvana Unplugged and the life changer that was Parklife.
Definitely Maybe wasnât that bad either.
Vauxhall and I is one of the greatest of all time.
Too busy just fucking about in 1994 and sad as fuck that England werenât in the World Cup. |
DoofDoof
12.03.24 | Fair play, for me it was the year after I really started getting into actually buying music (CDs had arrived) and branching out after picking up in 1993.
Top five impact at the time for me were probably Troublegum, Holy Bible, Downward Spiral, Purple and...How to Make Friends and Influence People lol. Ill Communication and Stranger Than Fiction were big ones too at the time actually, there's just tonnes of stuff from that year.
I didn't mind Vauxhall and I when I gave it a go...I could be more a Morrissey solo fan. I'll put his solo output up as a 'legacy band of the month' pick sometime next year, it has to be done. |
normaloctagon
12.03.24 | âAm Britishâ the list |
zakalwe
12.03.24 | 14 and 24 kick ass! |
zakalwe
12.03.24 | Do it doof. Iconic.
Ill Communication was also monumental when it came out as well thinking about it. Jilted Generation, was that 94 or 95?
Monumental!! |
DoofDoof
12.03.24 | Yeah I'll head to Morrissey, fuck it January might be a good fit for that !
Zak there's an argument the best Prodigy, Orbital, Underworld, Aphex Twin and Autechre albums all came out in 1994.
Hip hop you could say best Beastie Boys, Nas, Notorious BIG, etc
Extreme metal there's loads of stuff, loads of career bests.
It's a year you choose any genre at the time and it ranks high...pop punk you have arguably the best albums by Green Day, Bad Religion, Offspring...
Even bands I don't care about I have to admit released iconic albums in '94....Weezer, Oasis, Ween, The Cranberries, Suede |
DoofDoof
12.03.24 | I need to return to the Jack White...there's about five tunes on there that are dynamite |
gabba
12.03.24 | Guys, you almost made me tear up with this ramble about 1994, no joke. |
DoofDoof
12.03.24 | gabba, it's my pet project is '94, I'm convinced it's magic...I've rated 452 albums from that year according to my RYM account and scarier still I have another 500 from '94 on my wishlist there to check out sometime.... |
zakalwe
12.03.24 | Jesus lol
