| Top 20 Dream Theater Songs
My 21 fave Dream Theater songs | | 1 | Dream Theater Octavarium
Needs no justification; dense, immersive, diverse and pretty damn perfect | | 2 | Disappear
One of the most underrated songs ever; emotional as music gets and a
masterpiece | | 3 | Honor Thy Father
A bulldozer of a song, this is about as aggressive and brutal as DT get | | 4 | Stream of Consciousness
A crazy, trippy journey that needs no vocals to excel | | 5 | Fatal Tragedy
This song is better than you | | 6 | The Ministry of Lost Souls
Despite being 7 minutes too long and having a horrendously unnecessary
breakdown/solo, this is still amazing | | 7 | Voices
With a badass riff, a mindblowing solo and a dark vibe, this song screams
"WIN!!" | | 8 | The Shattered Fortress
Whilst being made of several old riffs and having one solo too many, this is
still a highlight of DTs discog | | 9 | Peruvian Skies
The first half pretty much defines cool and the second half thrashes hard | | 10 | The Count of Tuscany
Grandiose and epic, incredible despite the awful lyrics | | 11 | Bridges in the Sky
A gem from an unremarkable album, this song is all about scope | | 12 | Learning to Live
Proggy as prog gets, great from start to finish | | 13 | Pull Me Under
The first DT song I heard continues to totally rock | | 14 | The Glass Prison
A 13 min sledgehammer that opened up new doors in the realm of
heaviness for DT | | 15 | Endless Sacrifice
A brilliant combo of soft and heavy with an extended solo that actually
works well | | 16 | In the Presence of Enemies II
The intro is outstanding and the rest is solid, but it goes on for a little too
long | | 17 | Finally Free
Theatrical and diverse; an epic closer to a classic album | | 18 | The Root of All Evil
One of their most badass songs, although this is diminished slightly by the
solo | | 19 | This Dying Soul
The intro is perfect, but the song gets progressively (lol) worse until the
awful outro solo comes in, great nevertheless | | 20 | Erotomania
A wonderful song, laden with melodies, riffs and different vibes | | 21 | The Mirror
A wild card, this song is very dark all the way through, but the last 2
minutes are possibly my fave moment out of their whole discog | |

03.16.12 | 21 is too good to leave out; maybe this list will be my Greatest Hit (with 21 pretty cool songs), lol | KILL
03.16.12 | really bad list sorry bro m/ | MO
03.16.12 | lol was thinking the same thing, fucking 14 is 1 or 2 for me | TheNotrap
03.16.12 | Home remains my fav | JohnnyoftheWell
03.16.12 | I love Home, but it wasn't quite good enough to make it
Same goes for Beyond this life, under a glass moon, spirit carries on, trial of tears and as i am
m/ | MO
03.16.12 | Blind Faith and the Great Debate would make it for me too. First disc of 6 degrees is probably their best material they've ever done | JamieTwort
03.16.12 | Needs Home and Metropolis Pt. 1. I'd also have The Glass Prison a lot higher. | Funeralopolis
03.16.12 | somewhere over the rainbow is best | CrownOfMagnets
03.16.12 | octavarium is epic. but where is nightmare to remember? that song is rifftastic | JamieTwort
03.16.12 | A Nightmare to Remember rules, shame about Portnoy's growls though. | KjSwantko
03.16.12 | wow this list is bad lol. The Mirror kicks ass though and I'm glad to see it gettin' some love | AlexanDerp
03.16.12 | A Change Of Seasons | KjSwantko
03.16.12 | Right?
A Change Of Seasons, Another Day, Blind Faith, Lie, Fatal Tragedy, Metropolis, Lines in The Sand, Take The Time.....just seems like a lot missing that should be here.
I personally would also have Solitary Shell, Innocence Faded, Hell's Kitchen, The Killing Hand, and others. | Betacra
03.16.12 | I remember liking Under a Glass Moon (I think that's what it's called). | JohnnyoftheWell
03.16.12 | "You should've named the list "Top 1 Dream Theater Songs" because all their songs sound exactly the same."
...that's the biggest load of crap I've heard in ages; listen to Repentance, then listen to The Glass Prison
Metropolis 1 is one of my least fave DT songs, never got into it, and pretty much all the other suggested songs apart from Lines in the Sand and The Great Debate missed out narrowly
| fraderic
03.16.12 | i agree | Parallels
03.16.12 | http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?memberid=429291&listid=30914 | JohnnyoftheWell
03.16.12 | @Baseline if you judge music by when it's released, ur an even bigger dipshit than I thought u were | Dimor
03.16.12 | Theres alot of stuff missing on this, and some of these really shouldn't be on here. Metropolis, Blind Faith, Seasons and Home are all essentials. | Yazz_Flute
03.16.12 | Besides 1, I disagree with this list a lot. | JohnnyoftheWell
03.16.12 | "you're a DREAM THEATER FAN IN 2012, that's even worse than being a dad rock fan."
I'll be a fan of whatever I like whenever I like; I'm not a fanboy (anymore) but I have absolutely no shame in loving Dream Theater
Dream Theater>>>>>You | MO
03.16.12 | baseline's trolling the shit out of you man, just don't bother | JohnnyoftheWell
03.16.12 | meh troll is meh | Dimor
03.16.12 | meh troll is obviously effective though | JohnnyoftheWell
03.16.12 | indeed, but I think DT get too much shit | Dreamflight
03.16.12 | Some great songs here, can't say I agree with your order though. I mean, only at 12 you started putting some I&W songs.. | JohnnyoftheWell
03.16.12 | I&W is massively overrated imho; if I ranked their albums, it would probs be around 5, 6 or 7 | MetalMan79
03.16.12 | METROPOLIS!!!!!!!!!!! | IMZA1793
03.17.12 | Where's A Change of seasons/Home/Beyond this life/Metropolis/Blind Faith etc. Way too much material from the time that DT stopped being great. | Paracletus96
03.17.12 | I can't get into anything by them apart from Metropolis Pt. 2. | Parallels
03.17.12 | "I&W is massively overrated imho; if I ranked their albums, it would probs be around 5, 6 or 7"
Except that you can't overrate Images and Words | tempest--
06.17.12 | Needs A Change of Seasons, The Killing Hand, Metropolis Part 1, Take The Time, Peruvian Skies or Hell's Kitchen, definitely Beyond This Life. And my favourite track from Awake is Scarred. | JohnnyoftheWell
06.17.12 | It has Peruvian Skies
Beyond this Life very nearly made it, Scarred, Take the Time and Metropolis 1 are all overrated | Artuma
07.04.12 | I like this list, though The Shattered Fortress isn't that good, just pieces from AA-Suite put together. And A Change of Seasons not even on the list??? Come on, it's best song ANYONE has ever made! Disappear is a great ballad but way too high here. Good job otherwise | JohnnyoftheWell
07.04.12 | Yeah, but all the best pieces of the AA imo, and Disappear is just perfect |
