| RunOfTheMill’s 2025 most listened
2025 was a rough year for me, so I didn’t listen to all that much music in general. Trying to change that in 2026. Anyways, for no reason at all than to spur some conversation on this most fabulous and favourite website of mine, the albums I listened to the most in 2025 | | 1 | | Ozzy Osbourne The Ultimate Sin
Listened to a lot of solo Ozzy after his passing, after having written it off as “not as good as Sabbath” in my silly younger years. I still think that rings true, but Ozzy’s solo output is totally my schtick and I was missing out | | 2 | | Cindy Lee Diamond Jubilee
This was an easy album to put on while working in my workshop | | 3 | | Sleigh Bells Texis
Catching up on music I missed during the pandemic | | 4 | | Static-X Wisconsin Death Trip
Got a lot of plays at the gym | | 5 | | Martin O'Donnell Halo 3: ODST OST
I played through the Master Chief Collection in Jan-March, was blown away by the music enough to check out OSTs on their own. Also amazing games, but that’s news to no one | | 6 | | Enforced Kill Grid
Another gym album and post-covid catch up | | 7 | | Big Pun Capital Punishment
Had to remove the skits, but otherwise fantastic album and discovery for me. RIP Pun | | 8 | | Ozzy Osbourne No More Tears
RIP Ozzy | | 9 | | Preoccupations Arrangements
My favourite Canadian band. I was disappointed with Ill at Ease so I listened to their previous album a bunch | | 10 | | Edge of Sanity Purgatory Afterglow
A much belated discovery | | 11 | | Jada Paige The Fantastic Adventures of SEXDICK OST
I got hooked in by the release of footage from this “lost” game and the eventual release of its “recovered” OST. Super fun little electronic album | | 12 | | McKinley Dixon Magic, Alive!
Amazing album, sad I missed his show. Got a lot of listens while hanging with the boys by the water in the summer | | 13 | | CoyKoi “Grow”
Local indie band my cousin’s boyfriend is in, genuinely great album | | 14 | | Jane's Addiction Nothing's Shocking
Another belated discovery, even though the more I read about Perry Ferrell, the more I was turned off. Fun album | | 15 | | Geordie Greep The New Sound
Compelling album that I stopped listening to after having a bad experience at his live show in February. Oh well, still great | | 16 | | Toshiki Kadomatsu Sea Is a Lady
An old favourite | | 17 | | Type O Negative October Rust
Finally clicked with Type O, listened to this a ton in November | | 18 | | Messa The Spin
Fantastic album by a fantastic band. I gave it a try after everyone talked about them in the Faetooth threads | | 19 | | Faetooth Remnants of the Vessel
Sad I missed their show, great album, and I gotta listen to the new one more | | 20 | | Tatsuro Yamashita JOY
Finally giving the city pop GOAT a genuine go after following pyroflare’s list | | 21 | | Pendulum Hold Your Colour
Listened to this a part of my late year electronic challenge, as such I mostly listened to this in December. Still in rotation as with a lot of the other electro discoveries | | 22 | | Ozzy Osbourne Blizzard Of Ozz | | 23 | | Unida The Great Divide
An old favourite | | 24 | | Minutemen Double Nickels on the Dime
Another 2025 discovery | | 25 | | Nails Unsilent Death
Another gym album | |

01.24.26 | tell me how my taste sucks (or doesn’t) and recs always welcome
Pretty happy with the variety, as I still listen to a lot of metal most of the time | Jmal00
01.24.26 | You in the twilight world tonight? | zakalwe
01.24.26 | What was the bad experience at Geordie Greeps live show? | keaton_86
01.24.26 | What was the bad experience at Geordie Greeps live show? x2 | RunOfTheMill
01.24.26 | At the risk of being skewered by y'all, here goes... It was a little while ago so bear with me.
They played a generous set, almost 2 and a half hours. Every song he played off the new sound was extended by a few minutes with improv reprising the chords of the song. I can't fault him for this, it was good stuff. But my gripes started there, there was almost zero interaction with the crowd. Hardly acknowledged our presence. They were just kinda doing their thing on the stage.
It took a nosedive for me after Holy, Holy, where they played a half hour jam, and it was just pretentious. I just checked on setlist.fm, and evidently he played a suite of covers that I didn't recognize, so maybe that's on me? But what I do remember is, again, zero crowd interaction. Each musician, albeit talented, was completely in their own zone. The drummer was playing whatever. The keyboardist was playing whatever. The bassist was playing whatever.
And then I recall they started playing Blues and I thought it was going to pick up again, but they followed it up with a 15 minute rendition of Bongo Season. Again, everyone on stage doing their own thing.
I left halfway through The Magician, because I'd had enough and my bus was coming. Part of it was because I had a massive cold and couldn't stand it anymore.
I look forward to his next album, but I'll skip the show. It was not for me. | RVAHC13
01.24.26 | I don’t enjoy concerts with too much jamming and no crowd interaction. It was like that the first time I saw Built to Spill. Doug looked up from his guitar maybe 3 times and said maybe two thank you’s to the crowd. I was a little bummed. Granted that was towards the end of their tour. The second time I saw them they seemed a lot happier to be there | RunOfTheMill
01.24.26 | Yeah it's unfortunate because I was really looking forward to it, but like you said, I couldn't shake the feeling they didn't want to be there. Maybe they were toward the end of their tour as well, maybe it was about being in Montreal in fucking February ahaha, I don't know... Which I guess makes me sound ungrateful, because they played a VERY long set, but I digress..
I remember, as I was leaving the venue, there was a group of kids having a smoke, and I overheard one of them say "... you have to have musical restraint, ya know?" and I felt very vindicated lmao | RVAHC13
01.24.26 | Well at least in my mind if you’re going to be paid to play on a big stage there needs to be a show. I can go to my friend’s garage if I want to see someone noodle for an hour. Rockers in the 70’s/80’s understood the spectacle aspect of it, then the 90’s took all that apart. | RunOfTheMill
01.24.26 | I agree overall, but I don't think it has anything to do with era outside of big mainstream acts. | Demon of the Fall
01.24.26 | Nice list. It’s disappointing to hear about Geordie Greep as I enjoyed his album and the raw material could have made for a more engaging live performance
no idea what the 90s comment was about, ‘it depends’ would be the best generic answer, regardless of the era. A lot of jam band-like indulgences began in those eras you’re putting on a pedestal RVAHC | Emim
01.25.26 | 7 is so good but big agree on the skits | Dewinged
01.25.26 | Glad you jumped on 17 and 18, different eras and both great albums | RunOfTheMill
01.25.26 | Don’t let it discourage you @Demon, some folks were talking about their own Greepings and were super enthusiastic about it, I just wish I felt the same way
Thanks for the comments Emim and Dewi 🙏 |
