5/5 - raw atmo black metal - This is a 5 for the first four tracks alone. I'm pointing this out because since this album consists of reworkings of three past EPs, it seems like two or three different albums in a sense - and those first four tracks, reworkings of the De Forna Sederna EP, stand out to me as not only the best thing here, but also some of the most epic and gripping metal Ive ever heard. Its truly incredible how much new harmony, and especially S P A C E, was added by the reworkings. They sound truly larger than life. The other tracks here you can tell were reworked a different way, and they're still remarkable, still leagues beyond their contemporaries, but those first four are just perfection.

4.5/5 - slam/bdm - Not only is this a perfect example of how I like my bdm - unabashedly raw and grotesque, rather than dressed up - but it's also a perfect example of where bdm would logically find itself after so many years of the game being to out-brutal each other. There's a shrewd awareness at play here: an awareness of the listener shown in both how the musicians play for us and in the astutely deadpan production (the snare is placed right at the back of your head, as if to say, ’miss me?’). All the tropes of the genre are present, but they're twisted to the point of delight. The notes that compose the riffs aren't so much 'composing' as they are smooshing together into a tasty slop, and the purr of the vocals is like a blanket for my ears. It’s not a fancy gourmet meal, it’s Thanksgiving at Denny's. One might be tempted to call it parody if it wasn't so genuinely entertaining.
