Live Forever
Reliving my past, thankful for the present. Thinking of the future.
You slags have absolutely no idea how massive this band were back in the day. I cannot believe I will be seeing them on the opening night in Cardiff. Even if they are shite the spectacle will be unrivalled. This is a personal ranking of their tunes and some memories of it all thrown in for good measure. |
| 1 | Oasis Slide Away
We are two of a kind. One of the greatest songs of all time. |
| 2 | Acquiesce
We Need Each Other. The Knebworth version is the bollocks. |
| 3 | Cigarettes and Alcohol
You’ve got to make it happen. Colossal tune |
| 4 | Bring it on Down
You don’t care cos you’re living fast. Had Definitely Maybe on tape in 1994 albeit it was me older brothers that I nicked, it was the soundtrack as I walked to school. Monday morning I’d swagger into double Maths like an absolute geezer cos of this tune which was my fave at the time. |
| 5 | Columbia
YEAH YEAH YEAH. A stamp of authority. |
| 6 | Live Forever
You and I gonna live forever. A true classic. The first proper girlfriend I was involved with had a poster on her wall of Liam sat in a chair taken from the songs vid. She was a good girl but mental. |
| 7 | Sad Song
It’s all just the same at the end of the day. Noel bares Soul |
| 8 | Supersonic
I need to be myself. Now that is an iconic opening few seconds |
| 9 | Hindu Times
God Give Me Soul in Your Rock n Roll Babe. Too bleedin right |
| 10 | Don’t Look Back In Anger
Start a revolution from my bed. Sung this one at me stag do in Liverpool. I was held aloft and carried out the boozer as a king. Monumental chorus. |
| 11 | Champagne Supernova
Gonna Get away for the summer. Bought Morning Glory when it came out and loved it. The band had made a step up. Was the soundtrack while playing Streetfighter II. Was transfixed to this one in particular as I spinning bird kicked Blanka and what have you |
| 12 | Flashbax
Sitting on a fence with a mate of mine. One of the greatest B-Sides in history |
| 13 | The Masterplan
A ship of hope. One of the greatest B-Sides in history. |
| 14 | Rock N Roll Star
That to me was just a day in bed. The Live by the Sea vid recorded at Cliffs Pavillon, Southend, Essex 1995 encapsulates the moment the band went from being exciting newcomers to entering the stratosphere. Lots of friends and family in that crowd. I couldn’t make it cos of reasons I can’t remember but the next day I asked my brother how it was and he said it was fucking amazing. He still has it as the greatest gig he has been to. |
| 15 | Cast No Shadow
They stole his pride. One of Liams best vocals and that lad can’t half belt them out |
| 16 | Talk Tonight
A hundred million miles from home. Some of Noel’s worst lyrics and that lad can’t half write some waffle. Amazing song though, says a lot |
| 17 | D’you know what I mean
I met my maker I made him cry. Definitive swagger. Overblown maginificence |
| 18 | Go Let It Out
Ordinary People That Are Like You and Me. The general backlash had started at this point but I still adored the band. Standing on the Shoulder of Giants was released and walking home you could hear it being played from bedroom windows. The album was an absolute stinker though despite some decent moments. |
| 19 | Stand By Me
Made a meal and threw it up on Sunday. The acoustic version live at Boneheads is possibly my favourite Oasis moment. I still look at it and think yep, cool as fuck exactly how I felt when I saw it nearly 30yrs ago.

| 20 | Half the World Away
My body feels young but my mind is very old. Part of one of the greatest e.ps of all time and the soundtrack to one of the greatest tv comedies. RIP Caroline Aherne |
| 21 | Stay Young
Stay Young and Invincible. Life affirming as fuck |
| 22 | Headshrinker
I got no fear. A spikey full throttle assault |
| 23 | Morning Glory
Walking to the sound of my favourite tune. The One I Love but for the upbeat, euphoric anything is possible ‘Britpop’ crowd. |
| 24 | Some Might Say
The sink is full of fishes. Euphoric chorus. A mate I grew up with moved away to Matlock and lives a stones throw from the train station on the front cover of this single. A lovely place. |
| 25 | It’s Getting Better Man
It’s getting better man. Optimal optimism cranked up to 11 |
| 26 | Married With Children
Your musics shite. Absolute classic closing tune. From day one when I first listen to it I always think of Holly Johnson’s Love Train. ‘Up all night, up all night’ |
| 27 | Shakermaker
I’m sorry but I just don’t know. I do know that this is where it started for me. I was 14yrs old and grunge was life. Kurt had blown his head off, I grizzled and there was a malaise. Two months later making their debut on TOTP was this and I took notice, I was excited. There was an almighty dynamic shift. Out went the plaid in came the Ben Sherman

| 28 | Little By Little
Gave you everything you ever dreamed of. A proper sing song |
| 29 | (It’s Good) To be Free
Head like a rock. One of the bands most underrated tunes |
| 30 | Stop Crying Your Heart Out
Don’t be scared. World Cup 2002. Fuck off Ronaldinho you can un’all Seaman with your shit pony tail. |
| 31 | Up in the Sky
It’s just a case of never breathing out before you breathe it in. It was only recently as a result of the remastering and the vinyl I heard the acoustic guitar on this blinder |
| 32 | Gas Panic!
Give another chancer an hour to sing for his soul. The most un Oasis song. There’s no joy here at all but It’s magnificent and the lyrics are the best Noel has scribbled. |
| 33 | Wonderwall
Chords. One of the most milked songs of all time but by Christ did I like it when Morning Glory first came out. I was in a bus shelter in Southend talking to a mate saying that the song would be seen as definitive and a classic. |
| 34 | Going Nowhere
Wanna be wild cos my life’s so tame. Songs says everything when you’re young, bored and haven’t got a pot to piss in. |
| 35 | Step Out
you will be alright. Yes it’s Stevie Wonders uptight but it’s the most positive song the band did and that’s saying something. Went through a right old rough patch in the late 90s but a mate helped me through it by being such a solid geezer setting me on the right path. Cheers Nick. |
| 36 | Falling Down
It’s all that I’ve ever known. The bands last released song before the break up and it’s a hell of a way to wrap it up. |
| 37 | Fade Away
The dreams we have as children fade away. The bands most ear spitting raucous racket. It’s like Jesus and Mary Chain with egg and chips for tea. |
| 38 | Round Are Way
The birds are minging. This one is the one that takes me right back. I can see myself sticking the ball between the jumpers for goal posts, going to a mates house and just loving every second of life but still old enough to get a clip round the ear from me Mum. This one parodies Britpop which in itself was a parody. Ironic then that’s it’s as real as it gets and is a perfect description of living back then. |
| 39 | Lyla
Hey, Lyla. Not great but one of the best to sing when having a proper booze up |
| 40 | Cloudburst
I need shades cos the sun is blinding. THE most underrated tune. Impossible not to bowl along to it. |
